- Want to export high quality videos for Instagram? Here's an essential guide to Instagram video export settings using Adobe Premiere Pro CC. And because I care about our budget-conscious friends out there, or anyone just starting out, I've included a bonus tutorial on exporting with DaVinci Resolve and Shotcut, two free editing softwares you can download from the Internet! Yay!
What's more, I'll be showing you how to create an IGTV cover with Photoshop CC and Canva. Ultimately, I'll show you my secret in uploading to Instagram (or maybe it's not-so-secret, you tell me). Now that's a steal.
Please note: this is not an editing and colour-grading tutorial.

As a digital creative, I'm driven by the necessity to find creative and technical solutions, finding processes and ways-of-working that can save time, effort, patience, frustration, expletives and shitloads of coffee so we can focus on being inspired and creatively free!
That's why I'm sharing my workflow in exporting videos for Instagram using my favourite editing software EVER, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, providing you the right combination of video export settings that deals with Instagram's forced compression minimally. Do remember: Instagram compresses EVERYTHING. Can one of the world's biggest digital corporations i.e. Facebook get more storage and servers?
Despite the convenience of our mobile phones, where you can take videos and upload directly, I'm still a huge proponent of filming with your DSLR or mirrorless camera, as you can achieve with much higher quality and control of your videos aspects. No shaky cams, please. This tutorial will show you how you can ensure you have the best export settings so you can upload better videos to Instagram. One problem solved on this planet!
One more thing, you'd need to get your footage sharp in the first place. There is no way in 2021 a blurred video will look sharp on Instagram. I mean, good luck with that. All the best, sincerely, truly yours, Sharp Footage.
In any case, hope this helps!
Much love, Janz 💙

I absolutely love this video, it has helped me so much. Thank you for all you're hard work!
so very helpful. Thank you!
Wowow! I feel enlightened - thank you 🤗
THANK YOU! The exports finally look good
You're welcome! Very happy to hear this helped you. Please share it around, and hopefully this will help others, too!
Thanks for sharing, great video!
Really helpful video, thank you
Muchas gracias👏👏, excelente hermano, especialmente la forma de publicar en Instagram mediante creator studio, durante mis búsquedas realizadas no había encontrado esa opción. Excelente video✌
Great video! I'd love to see more on how you create your motion graphics.
Thank you so much! Hope this helps. I can certainly make a simple tutorial on the motion graphics I created someday. 🙂
Thank you so much. Do you mind sharing what kbs you use for CZcams and Vimeo renders?
Congratulations tutorial done very well.
wow great👌
I'm expanding the In The Mood for Life channel, and this is one of the categories -- In The Mood for Video, where I'll be sharing video workflows, tutorials, guides and resources to hopefully help video creators out there find their own empowerment in this content creation life!
So level up your Instagram videos with this export settings on Premiere Pro CC, DaVinci Resolve and Shotcut. This is a product of experimentation and tests, finding that right settings that deals with Instagram's forced compression minimally. It works for me, so hope it works for you, too!
Great video. I followed your instructions and my video doesn't have sound once I publish to Instagram. Do you know a solution to this issue?
thanks! but when I post the video with your settings, instagram compress the file so much, and when I export the video on a high quality, the video export on extended way, the images looks extended.
Such an insightful video! I just wanted to ask if you've had any recent issues trying to upload a video through Creator Studio? Any video I try to upload (including past ones that uploaded perfectly fine), the progress bar stays stuck at 0.0%, turns red, and a little (!) pops up next to it. Nothing notifies me exactly what the error is. I tried using your export settings and still run into the same issue. Just wanted to know if it's also happening to others and not just me because its been driving me crazy trying to figure it out. Thank you for sharing!
Update: I figured out the problem! Turns out I was using an older version of Creator Studio (it was saved as a bookmark from a while ago). Logging off that one and then accessing it through Facebook like how you showed in your video allowed me to access the newer version. Thank you for showing this, I would have never guessed you could reach Creator Studio that way!
Version 22.2.0 ( build 128 ) does not have preset for You Tube videos.. any suggestion?

Hi, I know this is an old thread but perhaps someone could help me. I have respected the export setting carefully in order to get a correct sized instagram reel. The video plays fine on my laptop and on my phone. However as soon as i open it on instagram or any other app on my phone, the 9:16 ratio gets crushed into an ugly disformed 16:9. i have tried so many different settings i dont know what to do. I have used 2 sources of video for my edit, gopro which are fine and videos from a phone where i had to apply a filter to rezise them. Would be so helpful if someone can help me out. i can share the shotcut file if needed
I LOVE U
What about posting on story using davincci? What are the settings ?
for the fotage in 4k is it still the same setting?
1st !
Indeed, you are! Hope this helps.
Hi! So I've watched a bunch of tutorials on how to export in Premiere Pro to IGTV and even though I record videos vertically in 9:16 and that's how I export the file - Instagram sill cuts the edges a bit when I watch it on IGTV. I wonder what I could possibly do wrong cause I followed all steps. I upload it from my phone - could that affect anything? Cheers!
You're not doing anything wrong, Instagram just have to adjust the videos to accommodate all screen sizes. So when you film something with your phone vertically, give about 10% in your framing, consider the edges so don't place anything on the edges. If you're adding text make sure to place it all on the middle. Hope that helps.
@@inthemoodforlife_official Ooooh I see! That's a relief, I was going crazy not knowing what's wrong. Thank you so much for a fast answer, you made my life much easier 😄 Have a nice one!
@@ewa2634 My pleasure! Glad to be able to help. It works the same with the IGTV cover, give around 10% space margins on the edges, as IG fits it for both Android and iOS. as well as other digital screens, so there's never just one size fits all. Happy creating!
@@inthemoodforlife_official Alright, got it! Thanks again ❤
Premiere Settings for Video export at 10:00 Minutes
Christ almighty - thank you. Why is this video 44 minutes long?
Thanks for sharing.
Adobe Illustartaitr and Cnav are definitely my favorite when it comes to creating designs.
Some people find it unprofessional, but I think it's a great app.
BAD VISUAL QUALITY POSTING. This is probably the biggest mistake.
I didn't pay attention to the Live video's quality before but now I do, for sure. That is why I use YellowDuck.Tv. Now I can go LIVE from my Pc or Mac.
My pleasure, hope this helps you with your video exporting! And yes, love Canva, it's such a helpful online design software and super easy to use!
Will these same settings work for Facebook too?
I find it frustrating that nobody touches on optimal export settings for 16:9 for the feed rather than for IGTV. I do not desire to use IGTV for videos 60 seconds or less because I personally hate clicking out of the feed to watch a video and IGTV glitches out for me a lot, not allowing me to finish watching a video I've committed to. People don't have large attention spans and rarely click out of the main feed to watch something, however long or short. Why did you skip over this scenario? We do not want to crop our work into a different aspect ratio, it does not reflect our style whatsoever. Should we export at 1920x1080 or smaller than that? I thought Instagram supports 1920x1080 aspect ratio now.
Even at this settings Instagram is going to compress the file to less than 5mb. So is there a way we can compress the file so that Instagram doesn't?
I tried exporting that route many times, the output quality on IG is far worse than what I suggested here. Yes, Instagram compresses everything, so you make sure you export in a high quality so you get the best possible output compression.
