Making small parts like this is a great use the technology, it will only get better as time goes on the printers and materials get better.
I’ve made a few parts for my Vetterli, first printing in plastic for fitment, then sending the design out to be printed in metal. $20 in material sure beats $150 for a new extractor.
And yet there are some people who just can accept the viability of 3D printing
I will only be happy once I can get printed a cup of tea, earl gray, hot!
@@danishpuma Earl Grey comes in K cups. That's basically the same thing.
neat that they picked a material that looks a lot like galvanized steel
Probably just a happy accident - usually colorants in polymers and composite materials tend to affect that materials durability, chemical resistance, etc.
@@bigmike- Yea, these are almost certainly printed using HP Multi-Jet Fusion technology, which is amazing for parts that need decently fine detail and mechanical strength. It only comes in gray/black at the moment. It uses a bed of powder that is glued together with resin with basically a fancy inkjet printer, because, HP. Its actually one of the faster and therefore cheaper 3D printing technologies out there. I design parts for it all the time.
@@Beltonius well, makes sense.
Given what I saw when I purchased other products from him, you most likely have multiple color options.
3d printing is pretty great. I designed myself HK p30/SFP9/VP9 magazine, so i can pump out a reasonably reliable, 16-round mag at 3.5$ a piece (it uses cheapo chinese G17 springs). Amazing technology.
Can I get a link to that?
@@marcusborderlands6177 Not really because it gets removed all the time. But google is your friend :D
@@kage9260 Google isn't anyone's friend but other internet searches can be.
Just a few things for people with questions about this technology;
-These parts look like HP MJF parts. They are isotropic, and much stronger than normal FDM or resin parts since its a powder process. They are probably Nylon 12, but could be glass filled nylon?
-HP printers are $$$. They start at around $300k shipped and installed at your facility, especially since the smaller ones were discontinued
-A * lot * of service bureaus have them, and will be happy to print you these parts for a few bucks each, including post processing. You just send them the STL, and pay with a CC
-You can have the parts dyed black or vapor smoothed for a nicer finish. The vapor smoothing will make them stronger and look like injection molded parts, but may effect the clip geometry a bit.
I used to help sell and did lots of service on these machines (300/500 series, 4200 and 5200 printers). they're super cool beasts.
What exactly do you mean by a "service bureau"?
What kind of places will print that for you, I can't seem to find any
Exactly right. Good eye!
@@Slim934 They're basically the 3D printing version of machine shops, but many do design work and short production run manufacturing, too, if you want or need that.
@@cogburnarsenal9284Do you peeps have an HP on site, or are you working with someone for these? I know MK machining makes tons of precision rifle parts using an HP 5200 that are available on their website, too, and they're running an itty bitty service bureau with it as well. Don't know if you know them or not. Feel free to not answer if its a secret :P
I live in Ar. When everything else was barren, 35 remington was on the shelves at Academy.
A clip about literal clips huh
Glad to see Cogburn Arsenal getting some attention. His stripper clip guide for the Mini-14 is awesome. No, I don't live somewhere with magazine restrictions, I just think it's cool and fun.
I got lucky and found an original clip for $50. I am EXTREMELY careful when using it and putting it up because I don't plan on buying a second. I'll have to get my hands on some of these 3D printed ones.
Just use 7.62x51 NATO clips, they fit perfectly after a light standing on the outside edges with 2000 grit. 👍
I have always used standard M14 clips to load my Model 8, in 35 Rem. Can always fit 5 rounds.
This is what I've been doing for a long time. M14 clips work great in my 8 and are still pretty cheap.
Buddy of mine has a model 8 and I gave him a small pile of my m14 clips too, they work great, although sometimes, the mag being what it is, it's easier/quicker to just shove 4 in instead of fiddling with trying to force the 5th round in. I like the 3d printing idea for replacing truly unobtainium parts that there isn't a suitable substitute for, but I feel like in this case, there's a quicker, reasonably cheap workaround. I run the same clips in my own M14 and 03a3 as well, but that's not really much of a stretch.
We've gotten feedback from some customers that M14 clips don't work for them in their particular rifles while others say M14 clips work great. We've sold .25/.30/.32 clips for more than a year and have gotten emails about .35 clips ever since, so we made them.
@@cogburnarsenal9284 Can confirm, M14 clips don't work for my 300 savage M81 and Mauser clips only kind of work due to how loose they are. That being said when 300 savage clips?
I’ve seen people asking for 3d printed clips in the comments of old gun videos for years. Awesome to see some really working.
As the owner of a Marlin 336 in .35, I feel your pain on the absence of ammo.
.35 Remington is probably my favorite caliber.
And I will have a Model 8 someday.
Like this format. Cheers.
I’m so glad they have these I have 2 metal ones for my model 8 chamberd in 30 REM that I handload for
That's amazing. Their printed metal stuff was also quite nice, their clip guide for the Mini 14 is a welcome item in the market
The first center fire rifle I ever shot was a .35 Remington, out of my dad's Marlin 336. I remember the round being quite the thumper on my inexperienced shoulder.
Thank you for making this happen !
Very nice review.
Entertaining and educational!
There are a few printed k31 clips out there too, gotta love modern tech.
nice quick video review
Everyone said it couldn't be done and yet here we are
I found that Yugo Mauser stripper clips will hold .35 Remington securely and fit in a Model 8. I bought them off someone who had a lot of surplus Yugo 8mm Mauser and was selling the clips he had leftover. Other "generic" Mauser clips that I've tried are too wide. They also fit in a Hakim too, for the three other people who own both of these guns at the same time.
Really cool product!!
K98 clips work well too
excellent application, also as a plus them being plastic means they're non-marring for the gun or the ammo (if you reload)
Great video, I've been looking for stripper clips for my model 81, 35 Remington for years now.
I will definitely give them a try.
Thanks for the link 😀
Makes me wish I still had my Remington 8 in .35 Remington.
This is some cool stuff! It would be neat to see some super clips made for antique pistols as well, such as the Steyr and Mauser self-loaders.
This is awesome
Somehow I missed this.
Sweet!
I've got 2 original clips & it's nice to have other choices!
Cogburn is great! The guy is *the* man for innovative mini-14 accessories
Those look great! I’m actually watching this from the reloading bench with a Remington 141 in 35 Remington in my lap.
Thanks
Fantastic - being able to replace rare, hard-to-find parts for historic weapons!
wonderful
Well, there You go!
Oh man I need some of those for my model 81
I just put my order in, I'm excited to have clips for my model 8
Lovely work. :-)
Just happened to be in the market for a few extras. Now I know where to find them!
Your 3D printer is your personal factory.
That's awesome
my local bimart had 35rem a while back! so keep your eye out!
Would love to see repro clips like these for my Type 99 Arisaka.
I also shoot .35 Remington. Since the ammo drought, I've been very glad to have loading equipment.
If there is anything that will get me to invest in a 3D printer its stuff like this and some of my ideas for .458 Socom/.50 Beowulf mags.
Cool beans!
well thats kewl
Lots of potential
I hope this leads to lots of other clips being 3D printed too!
Interesting! these look like they were salt annealed, effectively making it a solid piece of plastic instead of traditional 3d-printing layers
They are made on an SLS machine, not on a fused filament machine which is why they have that appearance. It looks to be carbon filled nylon.
Oh cool. Neato
You mentioned not singable to find 35 Rem ammo. If you handload you can make cases from 303 Brit or30-40 Krag.
I have Copy of The Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions by John and Judy Donnelly. 8n there it tells how to do it. The 30-40 may make a better fitting case than the 303. The 303 cases are easier to find and a bit less expensive.
The hard part is turning the rim down to the case base size then turning a new extractor groove. Trimming to length isn't hard. Then a pass through a35 Re mm size die and fire form and you get cases.
I haven't done this particular conversion, though I have done necking up/down, trimming and fire forming into new cases.
I don't currently have a lathe, getting a small bench top lathe isn't to hard. I think even a Harbor mini lathe would do the job.
I was looking at a lever gun in 35 remington the other day until I went to ammo seek and it was higher than 30-30. And they only had 3 sellers.....I know it's a fantastic cartridge, but not at those prices.
Impressive, didn't expect the plastic to be that strong.
wow what a coincidence. I found out about cogburn like 2 weeks ago and ordered my first batch of clips from them and was wanting some sort of review to confirm whether or not they were even worth it. lmao
Have you tried any of the 3D printed half or full moon clips for revolvers? It seems like a good idea but while I have the 3D printer, I do not have the revolvers to go with it.
Awesome. Maybe they or some other company could also focus on berthier enbloc clips also!?
Cool
I notice these don't have a spring in them like SKS and Mauser stripper clips do. So how would those work or M1 clips for that matter?
I'm realy interested to know what filament or resin that's using.
The site says PA12 Nylon.
Clippy " can I help you with that ? "
The Beard has spoken.
Neat! I've been wondering how long it would take for somebody to come up with a workable replacement for these. I lucked into finding an original for a pretty reasonable price a few years ago, when I got my Model 8... and have never used it, because some previous owner put a scope on the rifle that blocks the clip guide, and I haven't gotten around to taking it the hundred miles or so I'd have to take it to get a proper rear sight put back on it instead. The joys of collecting hundred-year-old nth-hand guns. :/
How about make Enbloc Clip with 3D? Is it worth to tryout?
I tried printing clips for my Swiss k11 but the designs available are pretty bad
Earlier in my life I machined reproduction parts for the old German firearms such as Luger and Mauser. Printed parts might be alright for some purposes but, as I see it today they need to get finer before replacement of original parts. These clips were made from plastic; I noticed that they needed stiffening. The maker should print the clips with a flat spring inside and also make the cartridge holding ledges more pronounced; otherwise they weren't too bad. Now if Starline would make the cartridge case Othais could have loads developed. Nice demonstration!
Next on the block: Carcano and Schmidt Rubin m-blocks.
You can already get injection molded Schmidt-Rubin clips. I think there are CAD files out there for bothe Schmidt-Rubin clips and Carcano clips as well, but I’m not sure how well they work.
My friend works at a custom wood metal shop he 3D prints parts alot. They don't make a certain part or it's too much in cost to get
At least yr year 35 remington brass was around. I do not realize that even the experts like the CR arsenal people were having problems getting ammo.
My Model 81 is in 300 Savage so these will not work for me, Tried the M14 clips and they will not work either.
lol found an og remington 8 clip at a pawn shop a couple weeks ago, got it for $10 cuz they didn't know what it was. gave it to a buddy. Ever seen a grown man squeal like a teen getting a puppy?
35 remington is sold at my local walmart
I have plenty of .35 Remington for my model 8 Othias. Are they available to the public yet, I have 3 original clips but would rather not use them if possible
Cogburns arsenal online sells them
@@marcusborderlands6177 thanks
👍👍👍
Nice to see a 3D printed part that is actually sturdy. My guess they are not made with your standard creality ender.
The powdery white surface makes it look like it was annealed inside salt. A better fusing of the layers will outperform any layer deposition product at the cost of some of the dimensions becoming fudged.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD No, it is off an SLS or similar industrial printer.
I saw the thumbnail and thought it was a 3D printed Lightning Link, lol.
Do they work in the FN 1900?
The FN 1900 takes magazines, not clips.
I meant the FN 1900 rifle. It's almost identical to the Remington mod. 8.
Huh, I've always used 1903 clips in mine in .35 Rem.
3d printed Chauchat mags?
So, which shirt top pocket did Othias leave the original clip in before it went into the laundry?
A Plaid one!
... Ah!
Likely it's buried under some plain Mauser clips somewhere...
And while you're at it find me some .32 s&w long please and thank you
Is that Mae's shirt?
You could just use a sharpie to draw a dot on the love cartridge and not tell us. Honestly I wouldn't care. You know what you're doing.
These are nice, but in my experience you can just use standard 5 round 7.62 NATO stripper clips, which can be had for very cheap at any gun show.
too bad they don't seem to do one for the 300 savage
Well, Biodegradable cheap plastic clips would be awesome.
i was looking for an extra marlin mod 80 magazine and was horrified to find them selling for up to 100$ a peace! it would make sense for someone to print a compatible magazine body and follower.
It seems long ago people who were clever bought up all the vintage mags and clips for ALL guns and now make us pay dearly :( I have about 5 guns that use mags and that run over $100 each and one of the guns isn't really that old.
@@alanrogs3990 hell the marlin mod 80 ive got was only 99$ lol
@@thetoneknob4493 it's so sad
Should 3D print RSC 1917 clips , Thai 8x50 clips , & other oddball ones.
So the four people who own a RSC 1917 can buy them?
Cabelas carries 35 Remington. As of 2 years ago I've seen it there.
As of 2 years ago?? Are you a slow adult? Are you aware the national ammo shortage that has existed since 2020??
1:35 ha...
Do you guys need any .35 Remington brass? I don't have a lot. Only 16 cases. Got 25 .30 Remington cases as well. They can probably be necked up to .35 easily.
.25, .30, and .32 Remington are a different base/rim size from .35 Remington.
If you have any .35 Remington brass left, I could sure use some. Please let me know. Thanks, David
@@davidsingleton1743 Yeah. I've still got them. Got to dig them out. I think my local shop has a bag of brand new .30 or .35 Rem brass.
@@JohnS706 That is great news! I have not been able to use my rifle for a lack of brass, as mine is too well used at this point. I’ll be very grateful for any I can get, and of course glad to pay for the help. Thank you.
Someone needs to make some workable RSC 1917 clips
Hm. You know, since extremely durable ceramics and equally heat resistant super-plastics are a thing, I wonder when or if 3D printed casings will ever be a thing.
Selling out to Big Plastic Clips
😜
Are these resin printed or FDM?
It is HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF). Look it up, it is crazy cool.
@@Rusty_Shackleford1 correct
Much like the new plastic K31 Swiss strippers…
Othais stripping on camera for CZcams... Surprisingly family friendly inspite of how it sounds or the CZcams censor's bias against this channel.
I think we should have had Bloke do sexy voice over.
Please God, tell me there is a carcano 3dp clip
I drove 6 hours for 1 20 round box of 180gr .35 rem. it hurts
love you mae ; )
