Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. While daily vlogging was not the original plan, we were having way too many cool experiences not to share every single day! Now travel vlogging is our full-time gig and we feel like we have the greatest job in the world! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
We’ve pulled inspiration from several of our favorite travel vloggers on CZcams, such as: +CaseyNeistat +FunForLouis +Jon Olsson +Mr Ben Brown, and any other talented travel vloggers that CZcams’s algorithm will hopefully connect us with ;)
We're trying something new! We loved Seoul so much that we want to make sure everyone has an amazing time in this incredible city! So we put together a travel guide called 9 Things You Must Do On Your First Trip To Seoul. Check it out! karaandnate.com/9-things-you-must-do-in-seoul/
苗媌緢喵瞄描 If you are going to have a sophisticated argument please don’t write things like ‘u’ and ‘urself’.
苗媌緢喵瞄描 It’s not country hopping. They were there for a long period of time, and thoroughly experienced the culture of South Korea.
I wonder what are the south Korean soldiers' nicknames 😄
There are videos on here of tunnel 3. Not sure why South Korea still doesn't want people taking photos. That is some hike to get back up to the top.
Kara and Nate 4 Minutes?! More like 13 Plus Minutes! But nice video...
5:45, best thing a soldier has ever said, *”single file line, facing your left, just like in middle school”* lol.
eben oberseas americans haf a way 2 sound like a condescendin doucheba
No the best part was when Kara said, “ Line Leader!”
bananaman22 that’s just mean.
That offends democrats
@@SKS8080 how?
One thing I appreciate about you guys is that you do a lot to change the 'ugly-American-tourist' way of being. I used to travel a lot many years ago and I would often cringe when observing people from the U.S. Mostly because of their seeming arrogant and entitled . You two aren't like that . You're respectful and warm and polite when relating to people in the countries you visit .
A lot of americans are like them.. it's an unfortunate stereotype sadly.
I agree. I like Nate and Kara for the same reason. But I know many Americans like them--open, intelligent, and both curious about and respectful of other cultures.
Very true. I’m from the US and travel a good bit, just like Shmaples said most really aren’t it’s mainly just the noob US tourist that’s super cringe😂
100% agree
No American tourists are fine,it’s the Chinese tourists that I can’t stand.
I would be too scared to do a tour like that only cause I know how clumsy I can be and I would end up doing something bad without even realizing I did.
sehun
Nice pfp and same but I did go when I lived in Korea with a field trip last year and it was so cool and one of the students actually got one of the guards to smile
Pasar Mahdi touching them, yes, but you are freely allowed to take pictures and be near them
I loooove your username lol :)
Same
Loved when Kara said "line leader"
Don't call me a wack ass sucka
IKR
Same. That made me laugh!
Same 🤣🥰
She actually said, "fine leader" 😊
You guys articulated the sorrow and sadness of the situation perfectly. Thank you for you honesty and vulnerability in your descriptions.
+Brian Esposito ❤️❤️❤️
Brian Esposito, ditto on that.
Brian Esposito you think that's sad what you don't realize is that not only are millions of North Koreans starving to death , but 10s of thousands more get put into work camps every year to basically be worked to death! it would be a lot sadder if we hadn't helped South Korea turn back the communists!
everyone with half a brain knows the situation already it's only a small amount of people that are completely ignorant on this.... but they just have to show their sorrow because people are so offended by everything these days that it's hard to even have an opinion or post any travel video without this fine print at the end. Were all living in a world walking on eggshells wondering who were going to offend next... I didn't think it was necessary, they seem like smart people.
They have no idea what they are talking about 😂
In November 1989 the wall came down in Berlin and my dad thought it would be a good idea to drag me and my sister down there (we're Swedish, hence down) to celebrate new years eve on Brandenburger Tor. It was a crazy experience and when we got there people were still cutting down the wall so we got to see it with our own eyes and I bought a kilo of wall grout as a memento. I remember that there were guards with machine guns patrolling the subway cars as we travelled between the east and west parts of Berlin and that no one actually knew what the hell was going on and what the future would bring. All in all is one of my most memorable traveling experiences to date and I hope that I get to see a Korean unification within my lifespan. If it hapends I will drag my kids there to experience it on the spot...
Think some people had expected Japan instead of the Korean peninsula to have been divided, like Germany
I've been through both doors of the blue conference building. In 2011 I went on the DMZ tour from the south. Six months later, I went on a five-day tour of North Korea and visited the DMZ from the north. It was a freaky experience visiting the same place from the other side!
+CNVideos I bet it's SO interesting to be able to visit from both sides!!
Quick question... if we do what kara and nate do... will they stamp our passport as visited north korea?
So are there both North and South Koreans in one blue building at the same time?
No. I’ll stay in Western Europe when I travel, thanks, though.
@@mehreenmirza100 Yes, but it costs a few bucks
Very good video! Thanks for your perspective!!
Do whats inside North Korea :)
@Thesodadrinkers I know that, it was a joke.
@Thesodadrinkers Technically you can but you need a chaperone with you 24/7
Thank you for sharing.
"If you go out that door you're in North Korea and there's nothing we can do for you.."
Actually there is: unleash the nukes
@@bpdbhp1632 I know you meant it as a joke but there truly is nothing unless you want to start another world war over a few people, which no country would do.
I think Kara should do podcasts. Her voice so soothing .
This video was a flashback for me. 40 years ago while teaching conversational English in Seoul I signed up for a USO bus tour to the DMZ. We got the same briefing by a US soldier: no waves, beckoning or T-shirts with slogans etc. We too realized things were very serious. Same short period of time in the conference room tho we experienced a NORTH KOREAN guard took pics of US through the windows..!! Glad you had that amazing experience!!!
I spent 2 years in Korea with the army!! Believe me when I tell you being on the DMZ Isn't as much fun as you're having!! It's cold and tedious!!
Larry Johnston My dad was stationed in Korea last year and it was our 3rd time in Korea! It was a very cool experience when I went to the DMZ and we are lucky to be in the army and experience these new countries and cultures!
I wish to experience the same thing!
Been there, done that, seven tours, many t-shirts...
My best friend Gen is Korean. Even though she was born here in America both her parents were born in Korea. Her father is from Busan and he mother is from a small village in NK, where she defected from in the mid 80's. A few years ago they went to Korea to see family and Gen went on this tour to get a better view of where her mother was from.
i love when Kara says " LiNe leAdEr " it made me laugh
In Canada, I find people don't really say "South Korea" we just say Korea (South Korea) and North Korea. I guess it's because if your teaching, going on vacation or from Korea, 99% of the time its the Republic of Korea not DPRK.
I have learnt so many things from you guys, like how to make stories, like how to talk to a camera. Your videos inspire me. Thank you for sharing your stories.
Thank y'all for taking the time to acknowledge the gravity of the situation between North and South Korea.
This experience really opened our eyes!
7:32 “hi everyone, you are listening to k-pop music now”
Me @ my friends whenever they come to my place
Just found your channel last week and have totally been binge watching everything!!! You guys are some of the most genuine people I’ve seen on YT!!! So glad to have found you guys, and I can’t wait to follow you on the rest of your journey!!
1. We love you guys! Keep traveling and experiencing new things.
2. This is as close as I want any US Citizen to get at the moment. Being safe is a big priority
3. Be sure to check this off your list! You normally update the country number! This counts, even if it was just footsteps!
Keep it up!
+Randall Wilkerson thank you ☺️💜
+Harald Harster
As what they said in 5:00
Those grey buildings are owned by North Korea and the blue ones are owned by South Korea.
So CRAZY I watched your video this morning and saw the same sites on the news tonight! You two are GREAT, informative travelers!
Your way of portraying your travels is an anomaly. It's refreshing than many others, I mean I haven't seen many videos (just few) from others but you keep it simple and that's the way it should be.
So interesting to watch this in light of recent events!
Binge watch of your vlogs during quarantine 🥰
I did the DMZ tour last year when i was working at Camp Humphreys. Truely an emotional roller coaster for me. You guys did an awesome job on the video
Best vlog on CZcams about the DMZ. Informative, alarming and scary blog on the history of Korea. Great job.
I loved my tour to the DMZ for the exact same reasons you described. It’s mind blowing but at the same time tragic. I was there in November 2017 and we weren’t allowed in the conference area (I think because tensions were high due to a recent defector) so we only saw the tunnel, train station and lookout tower.
Now this is in my bucket list of places to visit. Thank you guys for a wonderful vlog. SUBSCRIBED!!
+Shubham Mishra thank you!!
Please reconsider. North Korea isn't supposed to be a country on anyone's "bucket list" to cross off. This country is literally the site of one of the greatest human rights violations in recent history. They have concentration camps defectors have compared to Nazi camps, starvation to the point of the average North Korean being significantly shorter than the average south Korean due to malnutrition, and a regime so oppressive and manipulative the average person there doesn't even realize how much their life sucks because they have no connection to the rest of the world. Going there as a tourist and publishing videos of the places they have deemed acceptable for tourists to film is only furthering their disgusting "everything is fine here" propaganda
Your videos are so entertaining inspirational and funny. I love them. Your channel is amazing. 😀
Wow, this was captured so well! Thank you for sharing with us!!!!
All the places I'd love to go, no need because it's like I am right there with you guys! You do so well showing off the places and explaining in depth with zero boredom 🤜🤛😍
im binging them during quarantine. yall are precious. KARA IS GORGEOUS
Heyyy I’m really hoping that you’ll come visit my channel. I’m trying to achieve my dream of being a creator here on CZcams and the only way that’s possible if I get noticed. Thanks in advance!! 💕
Thank you so much Kara and Nate for posting this. I had the opportunity to do all that (DMZ AND go down in the tunnels )in this video back in March 2012. It was definitely and eye opening experience as you had expressed in the video. We also checked out the souvenir store (that sold some North Korean products). That in itself was quite interesting. I hope you all had a chance to do that as well.
Thank you for sharing this video with us. So real and authentic. My father served in Navy in the Korean War. Wish he was still here to share this with him. I appreciate what you’ve been doing going to these countries and experiencing their culture and sharing it I think the two of you are great. The world is a better place with young people like you in it. Blessing! 😇 Love from momma Ruth, again! 💕
You 2 are such a stunning couple, love watching and experiencing new places with yous ❤️
When my dad first got stationed in Germany, shortly after we went to Berlin for a swim meet. I was the only one who went to East Berlin from my family. My dad was active duty Col and he wasn’t allowed to go because who he was and what he did. I was 21 with shoulder length hair, it was 81! Typical 21 yr old lol. Anyway it was crazy! Armed police and military everywhere! I tried to exchange money and they wanted my passport. We were warned not to let anyone take your passport because people disappear for days.....so I didn’t let it out of my hands. They finally let me exchange money. It was so stark, grey and silver buildings, no colors. Clothes were all drab, only smiles I saw were westerners who were buying cheap things in East like comforters....I’ll never forget...what an experience!!
So interesting!! Thanks for sharing!!
Kara you absolutely have the best smile! I love watching you guys travel!
Just wanted to say Thanks for taking us along Me and my wife enjoy watching all your adventures
Nate : "I'm not going to try to justify why I wanted to go to north Korea"
Kate face : "Yeah I know and I'm still very against it"
Excellent VLOG. Very informative. Thank you.
+Robert GUENTHER 👍🏻😁
I wouldn't have known about this tour and interesting yet eye opening experience if you hadn't experienced and shared it. Thank you! You're such an adorable couple and your vlogs inspire me to travel to all these places 😊
Very good breakdown. Keep up the good work. Will do the tour this month as well.
Be Safe! So glad this is done and you can safely move on.
+Vonda Lennon thanks Mrs. Vonda 💜
This is one of the first videos Kara doesn't have gigantic smile the entire way through. There is tremendous interest in North Korea as evidenced by the tourism to both the North Korea/South Korea border and the North Korea/China video. I also watched Fun For Louis travel to NK on a surfing tour and JaYoe (Matt) travel to NK for a marathon. Ive also watched a few journalism tours of NK (Vice magazine). I find the place fascinating but it's not on my bucketlist for the reason the every single visit I see goes to the same places with extremely little "exploring", and the food sucks.
Melkor Schmaggert if you have never been there, how do you know how the food is?
So great to see something like this. Just makes you take a step back and realize how good we have it here.
Y'all are something special. Thanks so much for sharing so much of the world with us.

This was very interesting after watching Crash Landing on You. Thank you for sharing your travels

My boyfriend and I did similar DMZ tour in 2016. It was really eye opening and fascinating experience.
it's 5PM and only just got done watching this.. i've been watching it in bits throughout the day whenever i had a few mins to spare!!! another great vlog guys! :-)
very well done video and really informative - thank you for sharing!
We ligit JUST watched a video about that same exact spot in school!!!
Good thoughts guys. Well done!
+Paula Matthey thanks! :)
Brilliant film guys- fascinating, informative and beautifully handled. you're best yet!!
+Shelley's Cloud Thank you so very much!!!
It is such an interesting video! I llove all your travel blogs so much
I used to live in South Korea, and my school went on a trip to the DMZ and into the tunnel.. it was a great experience
Enchanting. Never get tired of DMZ. Please try to cover the flag retreating ceremony at Wagah border between India-Paskitan. From what I heard off my parents, it is overwhelming even for foreigners. Great video again.
This is a fantastic vlog. Thank you.
This was a great video!
Hey Kara and nate first I would like to say I love your vlogs. Your skills as vloggers is amazing. I found your channel a few weeks ago. When I search for train rides and you Siberian train ride popped up....i was just so impressed by the video I wanted to know more about y'all. I was born in Tennessee so that made me want to know even more. I have watched all your vlogs from the beginning....it took a while but so worth it watching them all..i just got caught up today...been waiting to watch the new Korean videos till i got them all watched....i think one of my favorite vlogs was Peru with nate' s mom and dad....oh and in Africa with nate's mom....i like all your vlogs but when family and friends join you i like those the best....oh and your personal food tours....nate your camera skills are awesome...well I just want to tell y'all how much I love your videos...i love to travel but have only done so in U.S. (key west videos make me want to go down there)...I am to scared to travel aboard alone...best wish and God bless...cant wait for the next vlog...stay safe....sincerely grateful faithful viewer Tonya miles
+Tonya Miles hey Tonya! Thank you so much for the sweet comment! It really makes us so happy that you enjoyed all our videos! 💜😁
If anyone is interested in learning more about just a small portion of what North Koreans are forced to live through I read a book called "A River in Darkness". It is an autobiography about a boy growing up there and his journey to leave. It was so incredibly heart wrenching and it really opened my eyes to how the citizens of North Korea are treated
Best vlog by Kara and Nate!👍🏻
+aloka sharma Wow! Thanks!!
Thank you! Not all travels are fun. We appreciate your somber tone.
Wow. Thank you guys for keeping this real, and reminding us Kara as you said 'those are real people' on the N side. This is exactly why I love your videos so much. Your humility and willingness to learn as much as you can and share with the rest of us through your experiences.
Remember that college kid named Otto who went to North Korea yet was detained in prison because he took a poster on a wall. North Korea returned his body to America a couple years later, dead. North Korea is intense. I would never do this, it is too much of a risk. Yet I am happy you both made it out okay.
Kaitlyn Harle this is one place I could never visit as well! I understand why they did it, but this place is far too corrupt for me.
He actually did a tour of North Korea. Different thing.
Secret Diary of a Foodie yea he went to North Korea what is so different about that?

He was actually alive when he returned to North America, but was in a vegetative state. He died a few days later when he was taken off life support.

Fascinating! It was entertaining, yet respectful.
This is my first time in your channel. It was amazing thank you so much for your experience.
Outstanding.... Has always bothered me when "tourists" seem to be checking out the misfortunes of others. Your thoughts at the end just, for me,emphasized that these are human beings. So important with the scary international conditions going on.

Watched in first 2 years great video great channel great travel
Thanks a lot for this wonderful vlog. It's just crazy thinking about the DMZ and North Korea. Must have been a thrilling experience.
Thanks for watching! It really was!
This is such an interesting video! I'm so glad you did this as I've been wanting to know more and more about trips into North Korea since I recently watched FunForLouis' videos when he went there. I don't think I'd have to guts to visit the country myself, I'd end up doing something wrong by accident, but I would totally love to do this trip you guys did!
You should!
By touring North Korea you'd support their horrible regime. They don't believe in human rights and make their people suffer...Why would you want to support human injustice like that? What about all the people in the work camps? FunForLouis vlogs are nothing more than self promotion for himself. If he really cared about people he wouldn't have visited a country that abuses its power and also abuses and subjects their people to terrible living conditions and punishments. Plus that tour he was on didn't show any of that, yet was a cookie cutter version of north korea which is just a façade.
John,
I never told them to not express her opinion and I never said their opinions were wrong. But lets be real north korea is terrible to its people and by visiting their country that money you'd spend would go towards that. Also I never talked about safety in america compared to north korea so I'm not sure why you put that in your argument. That had NOTHING to do with what I said. But you can't ignore the fact that North Korea violates a lot of human rights. If its so "safe" then why don't you move there? So next time you want to be a keyboard warrior I suggest you actually respond to what I had mentioned in my comment.
Same reason I won't travel to USA any more, because the USA is a brutal quasi-democracy the denies voting to many of their citizens, has over 3% of it's population under control of the criminal justice system, etc,
They are in south korea not north korea.
Good quality for such a new channel
That was very cool to watch!
DAMN!!! I bought a "YOU CAN'T HAVE FUN WITH KIM JONG-UN" T-shirt!
CZcams suggested this one again :-) one of my favorites. Did you know supposedly you could take two hours into North Korea now for about $1500 depending on which way you want to do five days eight days or 10 days
Cool video. Makes me wanna go some day.
Thank you that was really informative...
Them: Do not go through this door for your own safety
My dumb ass: Man, now I low-key want to go out that door...
Heyyy I’m really hoping that you’ll come visit my channel. I’m trying to achieve my dream of being a creator here on CZcams and the only way that’s possible if I get noticed. Thanks in advance!!
@@djlawlz4041 I have a better solution. Advertising yourself in comments wouldn't get you very far, especially if your content is unrelated to the video (take this vid for example, if your channel have no vids that is to do with travelling, and it's not in the topic that the OC is talking about, then don't do it.). I am also a fellow content creator that shares that dream, but here's an advice. Keep on trying your best to make a video at the best of your possibilities. Quality over quantity.
5:19 “Hi BoB!” :D
Loved vid
What a remarkable visit. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, I seriously wouldn't have the guts to go to NK even if we Americans were still allowed to. It's a scary situation going on right now. Honestly I wasn't looking forward to this North Korean video because I was scared for the two of you. I'm glad it worked out ok. Thanks for the insight.
"Even if we Americans were still allowed to go" What are you talking about? Citizens are not banned from traveling to North Korea
Thank you guys. 13 minutes of this video gave me information that I couldn't get from a book. And this was the first time I'm seeing at least a part of the propaganda village.
a very revealing take...you did a great job of being highly diplomatic, as you always are.
Oh and this is a great video. I almost kind of want to possibly think about perhaps considering thinking about visiting N.K.
Best of your vlogs I've seen so far (came late to the party and am still catching up), and surprisingly moving in its way. Thank you for taking us where the rest of us are unlikely to go, and for giving us a glimpse behind the current sabre-rattling news headlines.
+Stuart of Blyth Thank you 💜
My pleasure. A quotation for you:
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page” (St Augustine of Hippo).
I went there when I was stationed in Korea.
Goodness! That looked tense!
Nice Film! i hope you make more great memories in Korea :D
5:38 From the rear, those guards look like they're peeing.
As an ARMY, when I heard the words "Seoul, SK" I was jealous that they were in the land of BTS
Thank you that was really interesting
