One of my favorite scenes is when lui Kang kept on spamming kano with the leg sweep just like how people spam in the games

That is exactly why that was in there haha
I loved that too. However, with the speed and quality of every other fight in the movie, I would have appreciated them being a bit more subtle with the joke/reference. Realistically, according to the rules that the writers set up in the film, Kano would have EASILY seen those repetitive sweeps coming. Hell, everyone in the audience did. He should have done 4 or 5 in VERY RAPID succession during a second or two longer montage fight while Kano did a single leg lift to dodge, feinted, then swept again.
I get that they were going for the more stilted look of the game, and it was funny in the moment but for a live action movie where the fighting is otherwise so technical and methodical, there was just too much of a pause between each sweep, they were uncharacteristically slow and Kano's video game jump/dodge was the most inefficient way possible of avoiding the attack.

I wish aussies got more screentime, I love the accent so much and how they behave, they make the best witty and funny characters (not to type cast obvi). If I do see any aussie actors they're having to act like americans or something :(

Each time we see his character he is still on the same toilet taking a shit. When we see him again yet again he is still taking a shit. Each time we see him he turns the pages of the newspaper. He reads and shits.

She was his daughter not his little sister 😂 I know it threw many people off (me included) because the girl was like 13 and the actor playing cole looks 25 despite being 33 😅 But that was Cole's kid.
The only part about Cole that really threw me off was that even though he was a decendant of Hanzo Hasashi a very clearly Japanese man they gave Cole a Chinese last name. Like I get that can happen in real life especially after so many generations but it just felt like an odd deliberate choice to make. Like especially with Bi Han the man who slaughtered them all being Chinese it feels like it should mean somthing but literally has zero value in the script.

I have absolutely no idea why they didn't do this. Takeda was exactly the sort of character they were going for except he was actually done well and had character. They're already using characters from the lore... so use them all.
My only theory is that Cole is yet another in a long history of boring, milquetoast self-insert characters meant for the average moviegoer to use as their "in" to the universe.
That is a disservice to Takeda. He is meant to be a successor to Kenshi.

I have no idea why, but a sudden desire to see Johnny Cage overwhelmed my senses upon finishing the movie. Wondering about his absence for half the movie has hyped me up for a sequel. I don't think that makes sense either, but I hope Johnny Cage is written and performed well.
Cole is literally Alice from the Resident Evil Film Series. Hes the same character.
And I already hate him just as much.

I love how Jax power is NOT to have superhuman strength or to make mini earthquakes, no, his power is to upgrade the bionic arms HE ALREADY GOT
This also kind of implies Jax losing his arms was a prerequisite to awaken his Arcana (Or whatever it's called), otherwise he either would have to feel his arms explode anyway and turn into mechanical arms, or never find out what the hell he was supposed to have.

Otherwise I have no clue what you are talking about.
The rule is that Raiden is not to interfere in the actual tournament, but outside of that, he can pretty much do as he pleases.
All the times he interfed was before the tournament actually started, Shang Tsung was trying to avoid tournament battle entirely and set up ambushes before the tournament was supposed to start, which is why Raiden interfered, because the tournament had not started.
So which movie were you watching?

I do actually love that scorpion talks in Japanese throughout the entire movie, says get over here in English, then continues to only speak in Japanese. This film is cheesey action comedy, everyone is treating it like a proper serious drama
The entire MK storyline should be taken with a more serious tone. This was if the characters of MK had a day off to fuck off and not follow the original script. The dinner scene was a Kano roasting session. Kano's training was him acting like a jackass even though he's the leader of a world wide criminal organization. This movie's a joke.

You really think they wrote all these cheesy catchphrases like “You’re soul is mine!” or “Get over here!” without cracking even a smile?? You think that Johnny’s nut punch was created without even a chuckle? You really think it isn’t a bit silly that the series had always had a whole rainbow of ninjas?
I think a part of that for me after watching it was it tried to be both, and it didn't bode well. Like, you can have serious moments in cheesy action movies and vice versa, because contrast is good for the proper moments. But it just didn't feel like it paced well, and the tones kind of fought each other.

Liu Kangs fight with Kano was a hilarious game reference. Liu hits Kano with Down Hard Kick 3x in a row. Calls back to anyone that's ever played MK with a little brother or friend and all he does is mash down hard kick. I felt that scene soo much and I appreciated that subtle reference.
I wasn't intimidated by Shang Tsung in this movie either. Nothing against the actor, he did his best, and I'm not sure if it's because of how most of his scenes are shot but he looked like a gerbil-hamster to me when he wasn't all sucky sucky soul is mine

The actor was really good at being a villain in Marco Polo. He was grody as all get out in that show, but this kinda sucked unfortunately.

I was more confused why Sub Zero didn't killed Cole's wife and daughter, he had no issues murdering Scorpion's family yet Cole's family survived his freeze. Doesn't make sense.

Every move pulled straight from the games was done very very well, esPECIALLY kung lao teleporting.
The Kung Lao entrance is both goofy and cool at the same time, I don't know how to feel about it but I do enjoy it for sure.
And the fuckin saw blade fatality on nitara was boss imo
To everyone thinking the villains and Kung Lao will not make a return? Yeah they're definitely coming back undead style, more than likely this is where Kano will get his skull plate. Shang Tsung even said death just opens another door and it showed him taking them with his powers on screen, I can't be the only one who seen and understood what that meant.
I don't get when people say "Oh, It's just a little fun movie to watch on like a friday" when I feel like it even fails at that.
Well expecting a critically amazing Mortal Kombat movie is your first mistake. We’re here for action and cheesy, badass characters killing each other. If that’s not somewhat enjoyable to watch, then you must have some pretty high standards.

@@hunter1211 Seriously, I was able to be entertained by (but not love it) the movie UNTIL they introduced Liu Kang. It immediately took a nose dive at that point. Liu was WHINEY. How are you going to make one of the Earth's most powerful warrior whiney?? And he was too skinny. I know he was never roid rager or anything, but a solid 170-180lbs and in great shape is all you need. The original Liu Kang actor pulled it off pretty well in my opinion.

Yooooooo someone who gets it. When they released the intro to the film I was all for it, till I heard the new age techno house music playing behind a samurai time piece that’s meant to draw you in and feel for scorpion losing his family, nope loud ass beats to make cutting down enemies look badass. If they had went with a traditional flute and string music from that time, it would have hit harder for me cause the music is in sync with the time period it’s in.
The funniest scene was when sub zero opens the door to Coles house properly

The missed opportunity of the techno music during the fight scenes will forever be lost on me. Lui vs reptile in the 95 movie is iconic as hell with that techno track.

Liu Kang went through two movies barely even so much as launching a fire ball. He did one "flame" enhanced punch and it was the end of the movie, final blow on bad guy lol.
My issue is when scorpion told Cole, in full Japanese, to “leave sub zero to me” and Cole understood him even though it was never established Cole spoke Japanese. All we got was he grew up in south Chicago?

Language barriers are super inconvenient for Hollywood, so they just ignore it half the time. Definitely grinds my gears.
Edit: To be fair, they did point out the language barrier between Sub Zero and Scorpion at the beginning of the film.

I like how GG acknowledged the “get over here”, _even though_ they redubbed it to sound closer to Ed Boon’s.
The second half of the film definitely felt rush. I feel like they took a lot of time to build up and then there was only 30 min left in the movie so they rush to the fighting scenes and the end.
Side note: is nice to know they kept up with the original movies in making raiden completely useless.
I like how in the more recent games, Raiden was the main character trying to right his wrongs but also trying to train Liu Kang. The took that idea and said, "What if Liu Kang had one fight scene and Raiden did nothing but put up a lightning barrier for the whole movie? 😃"

When I saw that Raiden had the ability to teleport anyone from place to place, realm to realm; why didn't he teleport Shang Tsung Gang out of their training place? If that wasn't possible, then why didn't he teleport his own people while they were getting bitch ass beatings from Shang Tsung gang? Lot of deaths could have been avoided. Biggest plot hole.

Some issues sure but I really liked it. Enjoyable movie to watch. And I honestly didn't notice that there was even music in the movie except the remix of the classic song in the credits
I liked how they at least showed sub zero learning how to out class scorpion though it would have been cool if they did going to hell to overpower subzero like in the game

THEY DID MY BOY KUNG LAO DIRTY!!!! HE AND LIU KANG END UP FIGHTING IN THE GAME! THEY COULD HAVE USED THAT! but agreed the fight scenes were the best and my boy Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion made me so happy, be is legit one of my FAVORITE actors. Ima watch it again just for that.
