Chucky is one of the few slashers I actually enjoy watching, I've always had a love/hate relationship with Seed but have come to appreciate it more as I've gotten older, I also love how Glenn/Glenda may have been the first Bigender character in a film ever, long before anyone ever really gave a shit. I'll always give Childs Play infinitely more credit then most horror movie franchises because they're solely the creative vision of Don Mancini. He's the writer of all the movies, except the remake, and you can tell because they all have this similar tone and style that makes them feel like real continuations of the last, not soulless studio cash grabs.
Well, minus the reboot but I feel like that goes without saying. I don't wanna shit on the good work that movie had (and there was plenty!) but it just isn't Child's Play without Mancini.

I tried showing it to all of my friends and they regarded it as dumb and told me that they will never let me choose a movie for movie night again. Watching these an adult makes me wonder why I spent the majority of my childhood terrified of dolls.
I was OBSESSED with this movie between the ages of like 8-12 and I decided to rewatch it a few years ago, and it hit me that The Seed of Chucky was wayy before its time talking about gender fluidity in the way it did. When it hit me, I was so shook. I grew up with this media so when it came time to experiencing it in my adulthood with my friends and acquaintances, it didn't feel out of place or weird.

As a child, my family owned a little mom and pop video store, we'd get film merchandise with the films we bought. One was the original Chucky doll, a replica, not the actual legit one. I was like 8 years old or something, watched the movie with my mom, loved it, but yeah that doll scared me so bad. Not because it was scary looking, but because I always expected it to move. The fact that it scared me so much made me love it even more.

Eventually I was able to convince my mom to let my sister and I rent it on pay-per-view...I was so thankful that my parents didn't watch it with us. I LOVED it though, and recorded it on VHS to watch it over and over. Glenn is so cute and sweet, I became obsessed with this movie. Good memories.
Child's Play 2 absolutely traumatized me when I saw a scene as a kid. For years every nightmare I had involved killer dolls. Despite how much it terrified me, it also fascinated me and I wanted to see more. It's what made me realize how much I loved to get scared and started my horror obsession.
Fun fact about the dude Chuck and Tiff decapitated in the scene where they're resurrected, that's actually one of the artists for the movie, and past Chuckie movies as well.
Glen or Glenda was an Ed Wood movie (See Johnny Depp in the role) which was about a man that liked to wear women’s clothes…it was semi-autobiographical of Ed Wood himself

Child's Play 2019 is madly underrated. It's still a dark comedy, with layers upon layers of social commentary, on consumerism, the workspace, and child development. You should definitely check.
maybe its the layers upon layers of social commentary. i watch a film to have fun and be scared. not get lectured on politics. which feels like 90% of movies these days. and yes movies did it in the past but i feel these days it takes precedent over actual story and entertainment. like "oh here is 1 hour and 10 minutes of why you should vote or feel this. oh and heres like 20 minutes of action".
@@yagmi6182 I agree with you in all levels. I watched the new candyman the other day and I was so pissed when I saw the amount of political stuff overexplained to make it even more obvious when the original was already political, but in a much more nuanced and beautiful way.
That's why I love the new Child's Play so much. It's not a perfect movie, but it understands how absurd it is, in this day and age, to have a story about a killer doll, and uses real societal themes, in a not so obvious way, to balance the comedy and give some depth to what we're seeing on screen.
Honestly it was a good movie but it does not feel like a Chucky movie mainly because the personality isn’t there

I have mixed opinions towards Seed of Chucky, but I definitely don't hate it. I also wish there was more meta stuff in Seed of Chucky oppose to what made it into the film and a little less comedy, kinda like how they did Bride of Chucky as Bride of Chucky was the perfect balance of Horror and Comedy. Great review overall! Yes, that Trick Or Treat Studios Seed of Chucky doll replica is amazing! I own one myself, and you may be amazed to know that the head for the Chucky replica actually came from screen used molds from Seed of Chucky. Just a little fun fact. 🙂
