Still holding up great. I’d probably use a slightly thicker conduit/pipe if I redid it. They bend slightly but still works

Nice idea. I am concerned about lighting.

Thanks. I was initially concerned about that too but it doesn’t seem any riskier than the 20’ high metal light post on our street, or the metal chimney cap or other various pipes sticking up from the house. I suppose there is always some level of risk for it of course

Yes you should be able to get them at any hardware store in the electrical section. I got mine at Home Depot. Look for metal conduit and conduit hangers

Great video! I have been looking for a cheap way to add light poles to our rooftop and this was inline with what I was currently thinking. Instead of the hangers in the fence, do you think zip-tying the pole to an existing metal railing (waist height) would work?

Hey Cameron, thanks for the comment. I think you could likely make that work but you will probably need a sturdier pole for the light pole if you are connecting it to something only waist high. That leaves a lot of the light pole up top unsupported. Maybe use 3/4” or 1” galvanized pipe or 1” conduit or larger. Would also depend how high the light poles you want and the weight of the lights you are hanging. The longer the lever above your existing railing the more force it will put on the light pole and railing so the stronger it would need to be. For connecting zip ties could work if you use enough but maybe look at some stronger options like some metal pipe hanger straps and some bolts. If you give it a try let me know how it goes or if you have other questions!
