Jesse, you're cool man but I have to agree with the other commentor here. Savage raids and Ultimate raids are just as engaging, if not more engaging than WoW raids. Sure there's no trash pulls, but bosses are very much a huge slew of mechanics and DPS checks. You made it sound like FF raids are cheap and basic, when they really are spectacular and thrilling.

yeah alot of Summit's chat are just thinking about it the wrong way... "who cares about the story in an mmo?" Story is one of the fundamental pillars of a good mmo alongside gameplay, end-game content, community, and developers that interact with the community. You're free to ignore the story in an mmo but it's still core to the game's success lol

I mean, nah even a decent story takes a backseat to the gameplay, systems depth, and community, in my opinion anyway. Like if it's interesting I'll listen, but most don't really give me what I want

    • @Omnis.satanica.potestas_omnis
      @Omnis.satanica.potestas_omnis Před 3 lety +82

I think most of these people don't understand what an RPG is. It's first and foremost a story-driven game. An MMORPG should accompany the story-driven game with many social features and create a fantasy world where all players can meet. The argument "who cares about the story in an mmo?" is only made by people who have been numbed to the true concept of an MMORPG, probably due to WoW's terrible philosophy and game design. Sure, there are people who play in order to raid only or play with friends, but those are not MMORPG players, they're MMO players. MMORPG players get upset by WoW's story and probably love FF14's story, whereas MMO players are practically strangers to the genre and are only in it out of boredom instead of curiosity, dismissing story and skipping content just so they can get to the end and feel empty - and jump to the next thing.
Of course, gameplay and community are also very important, but the story truly is what makes an RPG. How many people would play Skyrim if it put you straight into the game, if you couldn't speak to NPCs or anybody in the game? Would it feel good to run around killing things without any sort of context or dialogue? What about Dragon Age? What if Dragon Age didn't have any story? Would people still play it? What about Witcher 3? Those seeking just the thrill of killing strong enemies are not true RPG players, and it seems like some of them feel like they're the only right ones and criticize everyone who cares about the story or wants to know why they kill an enemy.
Which is stupid. The fact that FF14 is designed to revolve around the main story - that you don't need to do anything else other than main story to reach endgame - is a clear indicator that they WANT you to be a part of the story, that the story is a very important aspect of the game. It's the way the game is intended to be played. Same thing with the music - they purposely make all sorts of different songs and themes for different moments, they edit the songs to fit the right moments for the biggest impact and some people just put on some random CZcams playlist and skip quests like it's their duty to reach the end and ignore everything the game throws at them.
Ignoring the story in a game intended to deliver one is stupid. But it's fine as long as you don't try to shame others for enjoying it. When you say "who cares about the story in an mmo" you officially cross that boundary and you're the reason toxic communities form. They're the same people who scream about shows having too much dialogue instead of fighting. The same people who want to seem cool and "manly" by harassing and shaming others for having different tastes. The same people who yell "weeb trash" even though most "weeb trash" is actually Japanese culture and more interesting than any of their lives. Not only is the MMORPG genre not for them, but in my opinion they shouldn't even be allowed on the internet. They're literally the reason toxicity exists.

Honest answer? We fell in love with Blizzard for its quality games. Most play more than one Blizzard game. Then they killed SC2 by fiddling too much and making games-wrecking decisions that maximized their attempts to cash in on the esports potential. They killed Diablo by rushing and then making game-breaking decisions that attempted to maximize profits and making the end game objective achievable with real world money. Heroes of the Storm, they killed overnight in an announcement without warning anyone including professional players. As for WoW, we've been betrayed too many times by developers who have literally told us that we are too dumb to know what we want: "you think you do, but you don't" (and then were proved to be completely wrong).
We don't believe the hype. And when we do, we get betrayed again and again. It become habit to not believe developers and hate the fact that you're addicted to something that punishes you for having nostalgia, for wanting to have fun.
I switched over recently and this month, I unsubbed from WoW. All it took was a leap of faith and now I believe again, but this time in FF14.

You don't even need to play both to understand why ff ultimates are harder. they're much longer, many new mechanics being thrown at you one after the other vs the couple you get in a mythics, classes have way more in depth rotations that are harder to play while doing mechanics than wow, and there is way more individual responsibility per mechanic because there's only 8 people vs 20. If you fail to heal once or twise, and there's a wipe, it's fine. But it's not fine to do it on purpose, I have had some healers simply not healing at all in a dungeon, having to use all my GCDs and the oh shit invulnerability with a simple pack of mobs, even heal myself at times because the healer didn't want to heal. That's not fine.

It depends on what type of game you want to play and what you are into (Also what you are willing to tolerate to an extent). What is sad is when you base your entire personality on preferring one over the other and criticize people for playing the one you don't like or vice versa. It's dumb just like the PC vs consoles argument and the iPhone vs Android arguements. Just let people enjoy what they prefer and hell maybe give the other side a try and you never know you might end up liking it.
P.S. Most WoW players are salty over the resent FFXIV hype because of the sunk cost fallacy. They can't handle that they've been screwed by Blizzard for so long and sunk so much time and money into a game that they are now coming to realize isn't as great as they thought it was. What if you had fought this boss, but he was way stronger, and also your character's special ability to read minds didn't work, so most of the aoe markers for mechanics don't show up. The chat is so braindead it hurts.
I recently started playing FFXIV and you can say it does a lot of things different than WoW some it does better and others worse.
But one thing that is just bullshit is that current WoW looks bad. It doesnt look realistic, yes, but i doesnt try to it has a more cartoonish style and within this style it looks great. FFXIV on the other hand tries to look realistic but doesnt achieve this at all (because old games cant really look realistic for todays standards) and even more important there is like no Anti Aliasing on the PC version which makes it look terrible in comparison.
So it might be that you prefer FFXIV looks over WoW's which is fine but if you judge it from a objective technical standpoint WoW is soooo much better looking in stuff like Anti Aliasing, Ambient Occlusion, Shadows, View Distance and Textures.
And that Summit said it looks so great (graphically) is probably because it was not fullscreen and compressed.
But beyond that its a great game and im having a good time playing it. Except for fking Lalafells WutFace
And i can only agree on the community part so far. When joined the world a random person came up and traded me two crafted pieces of gear for free and every dungeon i have played so far at least 2-3 players greeted each other and there was always people putting a "gg" in chat after the dungeon. So comparing that to my experiences in WoW i had way more negativ and toxic ppl trying to hurry me up in dungeons than nice players. But its a while since i really played low level content in WoW. FFXIV community reminds me of early Classic re-release last year or when it was.

I'm a little biased, I admit, but if you are looking to get your girl into something that has all the elements of an MMO, without all the hardcore just in your face all the time, FFXIV is the perfect game. A lot of people just login every day to socialize. Hang out doing fishing, hanging out at your friends personal house, or passing time by playing games at the Golden Saucer. The developers really put a lot of things you can do in this game that ISN'T all about the fighting and grinding. It's more chill and laid back. But once you're ready to don that armor and that weapon, there is plenty of fighting to do too. And then there is the story, of course. I actually think both of ya'll would love it.

Here is the problem , its you who are still playing, or atleast played Shadowlands, and sadly im one of you. We are just as much the reason that WoW is what it is as Blizzard. In what universe where Warlords was so bad can the next expansion hit records in sales, and then after the most horrible expansion BFA can the following expansion (Shadowlands) hit record sales? I know that we hold on to hope that the next game atleast would be better, and maybe can be what it once was, but that will NEVER!! BE THE CASE! It gives the mesage and impression to Blizzard that they can forget what happend in the past and continue their bullshit game development. If we STOP playing the game and move on to other MMO just as FF, New World or Ashes for example, then thats the biggest reason we will give Blizzard ro rethink everything and actually do something for once. I as for 1 month ago unsubbed wow and uninstalled it. Have been having a blast with FFXIV.

Asmon's been getting those view numbers because he's willing to (and seems to enjoy) beat his head against a wall repeatedly in order to beat content. It's the symptom of being an old mmo raider. There's not a lot of streamers that are willing to publicly fail repeatedly to get that one success. His reactions to wipe after wipe is also hilarious.

I've played FFXIV since about 2017 and I really enjoyed it. Once you get past the slow ass start and get into the cool raids and dungeons and story and shit it really gets fun. I stopped playing a while back tho cuz once you level up your characters and reach the end of the story for this season the game gets repetitive. You just do the same raids and dungeons over and over again to grind gear level and that gets boring to me
