- I put together this video documenting my entire trip on the AT. I went southbound and it took me 140 days. I documented the entire trip with daily vlogs, but this video brings it all together. All the info on my gear is below.

I'm an older hiker, 70 years now and have hiked many a hikes on the AT. This brings back a lot of memories. I'd like to have this video play at my funeral. great stuff. tks for the memories and good music. I'd like to take a few more hikes before I go.
Thanks so much for the kind words. Happy trails!
I really enjoyed this. It's strange watching a southbound AT thru--hike. Most of the ones I've watched are NOBO - following the spring. Going SOBO, you are following the fall!
Thanks for taking us along❤️
Thanks for sharing, I’ve enjoyed the journey.
A very nice adventure!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the compilation of the hike. It was fun to watch and recall those days.
Mattmoves!! Speechless. 😲 How did you EVER condense all your footage into this amazing clip.....you seem to capture all aspects!!! Having watched every single one of your "days," this is such a neat recap!! ☺️ So so happy for you....you worked so hard 👏 to accomplish this amazing goal!!
Part of me wants to write something sappy and heartfelt....but the other part of me has no clue where to start. It was so special to be able to have a "feel" for the whole AT experience.
As an older gal, I really appreciated your gracious demeanor and "keeping it PG13." Hahaha. You were always so kind and never whiney, no matter what the day held / who you encountered.
Wish you and Elise all the best. ❤️ Always. Happy 👣 trails. Maybe we'll cross paths on a NH trail one day....⛰️.!! Thanks for every clip!!🏕
(PS. Now you need to post a video on how to treat *MMTWS😭)
*MattMoves Trail Withdrawal Syndrome. 🤣
Great job. Congratulations on your hike. Love the video. I was Nobo in '21. Was thinking might do a Sobo hike starting July 1 👣❤️
So inspiring! Thanks for taking the time to create and share!
Congratulations sir! I enjoyed watching your hike.
Happy New year from Seattle. Thanks for taking us along! Chet and Tracy
Definitely an awesome experience.
I’m planning to start a NOBO LASH for my 55th B-day in March of 2025. Hopefully Springer to Damascus.
Your videos have been truly inspiring. Thanks for taking us along!!!
Great job on capturing the journey. Wishing you and Elise the happiest of holidays and a lifetime of love and adventures. Thank you for taking a stranger along with you. Many blessings
Thanks for sharing the ride!! Congratulations!!
So many amazing moments in time. So glad that you were able to video your journey and share it for others to enjoy. Hope you and Elise had a wonderful Christmas. ❤
Hi Soups! Thanks for sharing this compilation video of your AT through hike! I watched ever single one of your videos along your journey from Maine to Georgia. You know the AT kickoff will be in March 2023 at Amicalola Falls State Park, where AT alumni come to cheer on new through hikers. There will be vendors too and likely Nimblewill Nomad in attendance. It would be cool to see you Matt and say hello!
Congratulations! Loved the hiking with your little brother. Very cool.
Amazing! Love the music
Really lovely video. Enjoyed the adventure in silence. Congratulations!
Lovely! It was a treat following you this year.
Watched your through hike today, great inspiration. Well done!
Thank you for taking us along for your wonderful experience
Thanks for sharing your journey with us. In a couple of months the hike begins again.🙂
Watched this in under 10 minutes. I'm that good. Nobody can beat me.
This was great! Good job finishing! I'm setting out next year 🤙🏾
Great pictures and video. Nice summary. Congratulations! Crow
Very nicely presented! It looks like you had a wonderful journey. Thanks for sharing.
Gosh I thoroughly enjoyed watching this!❤ from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks, Soups!! You’ve been a great inspiration to me as I plan my 2023 SOBO! All the best to you and Elise in all your future endeavors!
Brilliant mate, well done and thanks for sharing.
Jumping from season to season. Congrats again Matt and happy onward trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
FANTASTIC! CONGRATULATIONS on completing your journey!!! 😊👍 And thank you for sharing
Absolutely beautiful. Brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for sharing your journey ❤
Very good video. Congratulations, again, on completing a great adventure. I liked the Emergency Ramen. I carry 3 oatmeals and 2 carnation essentials for emergencies(Be Prepared). Have a Happy and Healthy New Year. Good Luck, Rick
Awesome video! Thank you so much for sharing. Very well done
Congratulations on completing your SOBO
Nice job on the recap video
Well done, Matt, well done! Congratulations again on finishing your journey! Best of luck with your next adventure!
Great adventure Matt. Looks like you had a wonderful and challenging time out there on the AT
Thanks for all the footage of The Appalachian Trail! It was exciting and beautiful to watch! My son started his journey today in GA! He walked up Springer Mountain! So proud of him ❤
Wow that's amazing! Hope he has the trip of a lifetime!
did he make it?
Great times ! I'm betting your little brother will do the trail one day....must have been such a wonderful time together for the two of you !
It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip!
Great compilation of a great hike. I watched all the videos from the start as they came out. Thanks for letting us "travel" with you.
Excellent presentation! The still photos were great, full of sharp detail and color and told your story.
So brave and courageous!!!
I'm so happy I found this excellent video. I bet it was challenging to condense months of adventure into a 17-minute video! I'm starting an AT flip-flop this spring ('23), and watching this was great inspiration. Thanks for posting!
This was by far the hardest video to edit. I had photos and videos from 140 days and I really tried to make it succinct. Glad you enjoyed it!
i cried at the end i was so happy for you! my goal is an AT thru-hike & now i’m considering SOBO!
Go for it! SOBO life was great 👍 you get the hardest part done when you're still fresh and never have to battle for campsites. Hitting virginia during peak foliage is also amazing.
This is awesome man, thanks for compiling your experience together like this. I’ll hike this someday💪🏼
Oh, wow, thanks for making the memories from 2022 come flooding back! My son and I summited Baxter Peak on Aug 24 - I'm glad you finished your SOBO at the arch behind the visitor center. Happy for you!
Great summary video, Matt. Loved it, as well as all the rest of them throughout your thru hike. Lots of great memories. Thanks for putting all of the effort into them and sharing. Happy New Year!
Awesome job, congratulations. Enjoy the video, can't wait to get back out there
Great video of your AT journey! It must have been hard to pick through all the great photos and videos but you did a great job highlighting your long trek in 20 minutes. Wish you the best as you transition back. Good luck.

Congratulations 🎊
Congrats dude!
elise is a lucky lady
You dont see that many people going that way under the arch :) Good job and really nice sobo video! Cheers from The Netherlands
very cool. after a 30 year hiatus I have started hiking again. Trying to prepare for a 9 day Philmont trip. this video continues to motivate me.
W❤️W! Absolutely Stunning! Cheers for more incredible and awesome adventures!🥂❤️✨
Well done 👏👏👏
Wonderful accomplishment! Yah!
That was very good my friend ,., Congratulations
What an amazing adventure! Best wishes. ❤
Really enjoyed this video. Short....but not too short, and the music was very good. Now I'll look to see if I can find and watch your initial clips of this journey.
Update! I did find the initial daily clips and my wife and I watched and enjoyed each and every one of them from Maine to Springer Mtn. Thanks again.
AWESOME DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful!
Great video man! Brought back a lot of emotions!
- Baby Bear AT SOBO 16
I hope I get to attempt it before I pass. I have all the gear now I just need to save money for the trail expenses.
Congratulations
Started my sobo through hike in 2003 and finished in 2007 it turn into a section hike. Southbound is the only way to go the Appalachian trail starts in Maine. Not Georgia.
Well said 👏
Beautiful memories here! Congratulations! PCT? CDT?
Thanks so much! No PCT or CDT plans right now. Trying to find the time for the long trail next
Do you have a video about what you ate including the cold soaking experience? Was the pad you used enough comfort and insulation the entire trip?
AWESOME!! Hey, when did you start? I am currently following Bartman's daily vlog. He started NOBO just a few weeks ago on New Year's Day. I would like to experience some snow, but not New England level. Planning on doing this next year or at latest the year after in '25.
I started the first week in July heading SOBO. The last few weeks were cold (lows in the teens) and I got snow in the Smokies but thats it. So happy to hear you'll be out on the trail! Keep me in mind around Harpers Ferry / Roller Coaster section - I live nearby and would love to help out.
@@mattmoves8890 I'm in Berkeley County. Hey, for someone who lives here, you appear to have gotten your Berkeley Springs and Harpers Ferry pics out of order. Small world. 😀
@@myleftthumb2294 That section was actually in the order that it happened for me - I got picked up at harpers ferry, went home and visited berkeley springs, then went back to take the pic and register at the ATC since it was closed when I originally got there
Amazing Journey. I have a couple questions? What would you change if you could change anything about your trip? And do you plan on making more content since you finished the AT? Loved all your videos thanks for sharing with us your journey
I would have taken more days off in the northeast if I could do it again. I think I only took one day off from my start to NJ and that's just not enough. A day off every 6-10 days would be ideal. I'll make some more videos about gear and overall cost to hike the AT and then maybe vlog the long trail with my fiance.
@@mattmoves8890
If given the opportunity would you do it again?
@@joe12234 I would! And I would like to go with my fiance and maybe go NOBO or flip flop to change up the experience
Enjoy life.
Wishing you many children.
was wondering how the one would hold up on the AT with humidity and rain... a lot of bitching online about getting wet
I seam sealed everything which might have helped. Also, it's thin silnylon, so I wasn't expecting it to be bombproof. I had some awful storms where I stayed dry, and other nights, I just stayed in a shelter to not even risk it. I wanted something UL that didn't cost a ton, and this worked for me.
Beautiful 😊😊😊
What did your brother say about his experience with you on the trail, now that you're home? Does he wanna hike the AT aswell when he's older?
He had a great time and maybe we'll take on the NJ section as the next step. Asked him if he wants to hike the whole AT and he said - "yeah I do"
Some striking photos in there. Just a phone or did you also bring a stand-alone camera?
Just a phone, I have a samsung galaxy s21 ultra. I used it for all the photo/video and editing. It was honestly one of my best pieces of gear for the trip
Sorry I don't watch SOBOs...🤣
Lol must be a NOBO 🤣
