  • Today, we'll take a look at a brand new Grimsmo Rask, and pop it open to see the copious work inside, all while tuning the action to be, quite frankly, ridiculous.

Never had or held any Grismo, yet I still watch this video because it’s entertaining. Still wish I could have scored that mini slim Pickins from you but c'est la vie.

I like my Rask a lot. I’ve had it maybe 3 years now. The one complaint I have is that the plum ano wore off relatively quickly. As you mentioned, I noticed how sensitive it was to oils immediately, but after a couple few months I was unable to return it to its original color. It still looks nice, maybe more bronze with hints of purple (still super sensitive to oils), but I liked that plum a lot. I’ve been saying I’m going to anodize it again… one day.

The crown on the bottom of the flipper is quite possibly the classiest thing I’ve ever seen that’s a nice touch

Does the oil smell like maple syrup?

I have a Norseman, Rask, and Saga.
I can totally understand why people don't like the look of the Norseman, but the Rask is basically the same build quality in a more traditional shape.
It might be the smoothest knife I've ever owned, up there with Holt, Shiro, and Koenig.

Gotta say, I thought that first siren was something happening on my street and not from the video.

I’ve been carrying my rask a good deal the past few weeks so i’m keen to hear what your thoughts on it are. It’s such a meticulously well done knife but I still can’t believe they haven’t stepped up from RWL. I know for most people the steel won’t matter as very few knives cut anything other than the occasional box or fruit but it would be nice to know you have the best steel on the market for almost 1000$ Based on second hand prices I don’t know how much longer Grimsmo will get away with this.

I’ve had mine a few years and used it quite a bit, that RWL34 is still a solid steel and they do it well. I have many other knives in many of the super steels, and this has us on part or outpaced a lot of them

@@thomaggTotally it’s great but i’m talking about justifying the price here. It’s the most obvious thing Grimsmo could change to start earning their premium again.

Something to take note of on the inside of the pockets the pattern on the bottom of the pocket actually mirrors the pattern of the outside so on yours you have the straight lines if you get one with dragon scale or the starburst pattern then the pattern in the pockets matches as well.

The thing that really sucks is I dont think you can send this back to them to be fixed if you needed to. Canada no longer allows any knives to be shipped into the country. Unless there is some exception Im not aware of
Considering there are no steel washers, it will wear out eventually. This kinda worries me

Agreed. Shame that they’re based in Canada. Government there is insane

What? Since when? I thought that was just for knives illegal in Canada like Balisongs?

I believe it would be possible for the knives to be finished at the same time. One machine for show side. One machine for lock bar side. Both machines have the same finish time.
Pure speculation I have no idea how they actually manufacture their knives

Pssst.... You missed putting lube on the outside of the last bearing you put back in. No biggie....

At that price point oil from your skin should not affect the knife.

Radical transparency and excellent machining are both beautiful things. But they mean close to nothing when it's next to impossible to actually buy one. You gotta get lucky enough to get selected, be lucky enough to get selected on a day when there's an option that you actually like, and be lucky enough to see the email and click the link before the options that you like are sold to the other people selected that day. It puts you in a position where you have to compromise and buy a knife that isn't exactly what you want (wholly unacceptable at the price) or go back into the pile and hope for better luck next time. The ordering process is deeply ugly to me and would disqualify it from my personal gem list.
