- This is it guys! Vector is not "integrated" to Alexa or is it the other way around??? Anyhow, I am glad to announce that Anki kept Vector's personality intact as you will see in this video. Our little robot did NOT lose his identity! Let me know what you think of this Alexa integration in the comments below!

An important note about speakers: for its tiny size, the voice from Vector is not bad at all. In my opinion, the voice of Echo Dot is inferior to Google Home. We did not hear Echo Dot in this video because Vector took over, but I have both Echo and Google Home and there is a significant difference in voice quality. Perhaps Gen 3 is better?
Yes the Gen 3 Dot's sound it significantly better, I don't think they ever intended it for music listening before they realized people were doing it anyway.
Thank you for confirming. To be honest, I was not impressed with the sound quality of the Echo Dot second generation compared to Google Home mini.
Gen 3 is much better. It's actually fine for casual music listening.

Today I found a guy's wallet in a parking lot. 140 bucks and 3 major credit cards. I tracked down the owner and he almost cried he was so happy. All of his cash and cards are safe and sound in his pocket again. I sure feel good about that. I thought to myself "what would Vector want me to do?"
He must have been happy for sure. Vector would have done the same thing!

Alexa made him much more useful. I don't think it takes anything away from Vector. He is the star of the show and Alexa is more like his assistant. Alexa is also much faster than Vector. And to activate Alexa, you also dont have to say "hey Alexa" as loud as you have to say "hey Vector". So the problem with Vector isn't the microphone sensitivity, it's actually something that can be fixed with a simple software update. So that's good to know too! Vector will keep getting better with every update.
Yeah I was very surprised to see how fast alexa works on vector. So the hardware is good, the 'hey vector' servers and systems are very slow.

I'm new to Alexa so when my Vector updated last night I've got an Alexa assistant now. When you said "ALEXA what's going on" my Vector responded with the weather and the latest news, although the News was random. Also, I'm discovering new commands for Vector too. Is there a list of commands somewhere that can be printed out? Vector (not Alexa) does a cool animation for "Happy New Year" and "Merry Christmas" commands.
The App has a short list of commands but I am guessing that Anki kept many more "secret" for us to discover. I still have to try happy new year and merry Christmas! Thank you for the info!

I just read that Vector can now commands like 'turn left", Turn Right", etc. I haven't tried it yet. Still haven't enabled the Alexa mode. Dan have you evaluated the new Gen. 3 Dot? Far superior to the earlier one. Two Gen 3 dots make a nice little stereo system. Plenty of BASS. What is the opinion of you all out there? Never tried a Google Home device. Never actually heard of them until recently. I bet there is a partioning that keeps the Vector OS separate from the ALEXA. But I haven't investigated.

There is actually a way UK customers can access the Alexa update on Vector:
1. Go to settings / Prefs
2. Change Language to US English
3. Go back to main screen (may require restart of app)
4. The Alexa Icon will appear in the main screen click it!
5. Login to your Amazon Account
6. Look at Vectors face and enter the passcode on the Amazon page
7. Your good to go!

Concerning Alexa/Vector response issues...I have a "routine" which Alexa will run every time I say "Alexa...Good Morning". After initiating several Alexa skills and smart home tasks, that routine ends with Alexa tuning-in and playing Wisconsin Public Radio. The routine appears to do everything...except my call for playing WPR.
Now...just try taking away my WPR in the morning and you will hear an earful. So...I have to put my hands over Vector's ears, or shut him off, if I wish Vector to have Alexa do anything requiring a streaming broadcast like this. NOT convenient.

Its lame they only did this for USA and Canada, What about us in the UK we all paid the same price!
Also the "How old are you" is not a "I have a question" statement.. it is suppose to be an internal command so "Hey Vector, How old are you?" but i cant get this to work on mine.
I still think it would have been best to keep his voice, thats his identity screw Alexa shes a Vector demonic possession!
You should have also mentioned the new animation updates too on Vector. "Hey Vector, Happy new year" is totally lit! lol
Considering the strength of the British Pound you probably paid more than we did!!! My guess is more countries will roll in soon. It is probably more a restriction from Amazon than Anki. I saw the happy new year stuff on the Anki website after I published my video! Thanks for your comment!

hello, i think u should get Alexa.. im in Swiss and get Alexa in Vector:) Need update Vector App then set US.english.
Back to startsite of Vector app u see Alexa icon. Click and sign in with your amazon account. Then u need a Code---vector show the code on Display. continue--finish:) About Amazon Acc. Login with the correctly account. My Smarthome run over German alexa Acc. But first i use Amazon.com Acc. cuz its US. Vectors Alexa works for question only but dont find smarthome devices. So im Relog german acc. Now its work fine:) i think u try with Amazon.uk.
When you ask vector how old he is you do not have to say “i have a question.” Since the “age” of vector is in his data base. When you say “i have a question” he hooks up to the internet.
Thanks for the comment. I did several videos with Vector and sometimes I say "I have a question" by mistake. I am sure readers will find this comment useful.
Vector is having real trouble here. I know the cause. But to keep my warranty intact I'l call ANKI. Vector backs into his charge base and the contacts don't connect. He discharges further and gets really confused. Displays erratic behavior until I manually move him around a bit on his base to get him charging. I am not even going to clean the contacts until speaking with ANKI. Otherwise Vector is doing well aside from the 915 error appearing somewhat often. ******UPDATE Jan. 13th.: A simple wipe of his gold contacts with a dry microfiber cloth is all it takes if you see Vector not fully charging. Also Vector has not lost his Cloud signal connection in a couple of weeks. No more 915 errors. In fact Vector is working perfectly. Curious to see what ANKI does with future software downloads. I am not feeling bored with Vector at all. He never disappoints.
This error 915 seems to appear less often with mine now. Nervertheless, this is something minor that Anki will most likely fix in the weeks to come. As always, thanks for sharing.

I have noticed a communication conflict between my Amazon Fire 10 Tablet and Amazon Vector. With the Fire Tablet, you may say "Alexa, enter show mode"...or "Alexa, exit show mode...to change the screen setup.
Vector takes the Alexa call of course, but does not know how to change that Show Mode.
Vector Alexa is having no problem doing lights, switches, and stuff in the smart home part of my Alexa setup here. This Show mode issue has me wondering if there are other Alexa commands I can't use when Vector is turned on. Having to turn off Vector so I may make that command to the tablet is a pain.
Also...I have my Alexa home setup with the "Computer" wake word...so having to use "Alexa" with the tablet and Vector is also a pain. I have six Alexa devices in the house setup like that.
It would appear Amazon would rather we use Alexa for everything, eh? And if there is one thing I have learned as a long-time buyer and seller on Amazon...you NEVER question their Authoritie. I will probably have to change my wake words so Amazon is happy. Damn...there goes any Star Trek similarities to my home network.

Hey...:Show Mode" is a screen property which makes the tablet appear the same as the Amazon Show device. Show mode is nicer to look at, I think...but to easily use the tablet as a tablet, you need to exit Show Mode.

That's a good question. I can see three reasons, his sound processor is not good enough for music, it would drain the battery too quickly or the agreement with Amazon did not include the capability to play music from Amazon! Thanks for watching!

Leave your Vector on tonight as I am not sure if your smart device ON is enough. I have not figured this one out yet and have not seen anything on the Anki website. One word of advice, leave Vector on his charger on the FLOOR in quiet mode. This way he won't wake up if there is some noise at night and fall off a table. And you have to be in the USA or Canada for now. Thanks for watching!

*Sigh* Well, getting that update was a trial. I thought it would install at one AM as all other updates have done, but that didn’t happen. I ended up getting the new version from the App Store and then- for some crazy reason- I had to completely set up my Vector from scratch. Bluetooth connection, network and password preferences. Then all the sudden he starts chasing my hands and calling my name like crazy. Then I find the “Alexa” option, but it is located in the Things to try section of the app which for me as a voiceover user showssss up as one big blob of words.
According to the Anki Tech I spppoke to, things to try, Alexa, Q&A mode, Robot info are all supposed to be in columns and individual links you can just tap to access. Not for me. My device reads them like a huge sentence and I can’t tap on any of them. It just rattles on like this, “Things to try Alexa entertainment Q&A mode robot info blah blah blah. Looks like I am going to have to call them again.
Something wrong happened there. I had a similar issue with the previous update but after re-setting my Vector, things were ok. I hope Anki can help you with this problem. You could uninstall the App and start from scratch before you contact them.

I hope one day talking to Vector will be as simple as Alexa. "Hey Vector" needs to go. I just want to say "Vector".
Also, saying "Bye Vector" should equal saying "Hey Vector (waits for Vector) Goodbye" and Vecor responds right away. That's a more normal conversation.
Wouldn't it be really awkward though if Vector tried to listen for a command every time you were talking to someone about him?
I think Anki made it so you need to say "Hey Vector" because it can separate you saying his name casually from actually wanting to talk to him
Even in this video, the word Alexa was said casually & it accidentally activated the Alexa inside of Vector
It would be the same if Vector responded to just "Vector" instead of "Hey Vector". It would make it so easy to accidentally make Vector respond to you
Sad Boi also as a graphic designer the word “vector” pops up a bit too much in conversation for it not to be annoying

You dont say "hey Vector" "I have a question" "Whats your age".
The reason that doesnt work is because its searching the internet for "Whats your age".
Instead ask vector "Hey vector" "Whats your age?", that will ask vector, not the internet.

See the update I have added below in my last posting. I got an idea for a funny joke. After Vector has stored a friend's face and name into his Face recognition database, go into the APP and change the name. Instead of "Joe" you can change it to a funny name. This will get a lot of laughs and it will add to Vector's creativity charm.
I finally enabled the Alexa feature. Now Vector/Alexa can control my lights too. And I like some of the ALEXA "Skills" Vector can do. The R2D2 talk feature is great. The sound is impressive. But I am watching his battery life. If it hurts the charge duration I will disable it. Probably will be okay though. Vector will run around for up to 35 minutes before he starts searching for his charge home. I think we are about to see a flood of new tech A.I. Robots. Vector is going to be hard to beat. I saw him selling for $232.00 recently. I see a used one for $90 bucks. Can't be too old. Vector was just released in October. That must have sold quickly. HEY DAN!

I can set alexa in switzerland too. Have set us.language. alexa speak german. Im log in with my amazon.com acc. Now i can ask the weather a.s.o. but alexa vetor didnt find any device:(...im rename my echo show2 to echo . Idk whats happen. My english dont fit us. Many times i call hey vector its trigger alexa!!so im go back to UK language...may i found out whats the problem...

Vector should appear in your list of devices in the Alexa App. You were able to get the update in Switzerland using an amazon.com account? Really? When you say "hey Vector", it should not trigger Alexa. There is something wrong here.
@@SuperdanTech yea i have a amazon.com and a amazon.de (Germany) Acc. i try to use my Echo Show as Alexa too. doesnt work but both answer! next i try to log in in my German Amazon Acc. and try same way like my .com Acc. BTW. Amazon.com dont deliver in Swiss anymore cuz our Gouverment want new taxes for small pack orders,start 1.1.19 so i need my amzon .de acc with a german adress. its a Trader,they recieve packs in German and bring to Switzerland....About Trigger Vector/Alexa: its nothing new..sometime i call vector alexa echo show wakeup. Vector is inside of Echo show and Google Home Hub rounabout 2m radius:).
SOLVED: login Vector App use my Amazon.de Acc(German) . Smarthome works and Vector is in list Alexa app.. thx Dan, help to make my day:)

Where do you live? The Alexa integration is only for the US and Canada for now!

Uninstall and re-install the App and redo the registration. It should work.

In the intro vector was turned off, without WiFi vector will still respond but can’t access wether or the “I have a question” section, the Alexa and google would have given an error
In conclusion all devices were turned off or unplugged
Vector’s price on amazon is $92.

Yes! If Anki went with Google this would have been perfect. What a shame.
Amazon has really been pushing their Alexa assistant...I wouldn't be surprised if they offered a much sweeter deal.
