  • This programme looks at the northern German railway hotspots at Hamburg-Harburg and Bremen.
As you will see in the programme, both locations are busy with almost constant freight and passenger activity and provide for some of the best train-watching locations in the country. Hamburg is a major port and Harburg station is the place to see the hundreds of freight trains that pass through each day - around a dozen per hour on average. In addition it is also on the main passenger route to the south, so intercity and local trains are also witnessed in large numbers. Ninety kilometers to the south-west lies the large city of Bremen and it too is a freight and passenger hot-spot, with around 8 freight trains seen each hour on average. Motive power witnessed at both locations include classes 101, 120, 140, 143, 145, 146, 147, 151, 152, 155, 159, 182, 185, 186, 187, 189, 192, 193, 203, 211, 212, 246, 248, 253, 261, 265, 295, 4185, 401, 402, 411, 440, 482 and 648 are just some of the train types seen in action. Where known train identification numbers including destinations are given in the commentary or by means of captions. For those interested in German Railways this programme offers an armchair experience of what it is like to visit some of Germany’s busiest hot-spots.
