One of most versatile singers in the world...she is not Only one of best soul singers in the world, she can sing pop well too and this is is one of best songs written for her and backup 's singers are good too
Being a young white guy in the 70s who grew up digging rock music, I can't deny that I really dug Diana Ross's disco tunes. This lady is one talented class act. Still love her music today even more so. What a great era to be young.
That's quite a tale to tell the grandkids..... "I once disco danced on stage with Diana Ross." "Yeah, sure you did grandpa." "No really, it's right there on CZcams."
It is high time the Rock and Roll hall of Fame gave her her own place in the hall. She deserves it every bit as much as Aretha, Tina and other superstars of her era. She has soloed, sung lead or duet on 18 number one singles in the rarefied air of Elvis, the Beatles, Mariah and Madonna (who has 12; tied with the Supremes). Let's go, Rock and Roll hall. Now is the time while she is still with us.
Wow. Diana at this point was so comfortable in her stardom, singing and performing abilities she was just awesome. To talk with, dance with and sing with the crowd members and invite them on stage and have so much fun. With all that, she was still in control, nothing got out of hand and she was just a master.
This song it's wonderful but it was the anwser to love to love You baby of donna summer. Few years later she made the same with lovin', livin' and givin' and i feel Love. Eurodisco was ahead from american sounds.
I can't believe how young The Jones Girls were. They look like teenagers. I'm glad the camera got a couple shots of them, they had such immense talent, and of course Diana was flawless as always.
Read her biography:while she admits to suffering from some form of anorexia in her younger years (she explains that back then they didn't have a name for this in the black community) she never experimented w/ drugs, especially having studied to prepare for her role in the harrowing life story of Billie Holiday. Diana's had the same stage faces and movements since the 60s. Frankly, for me the 70's represents her prime; sexy,ultra-glamourous, funky, and fun-loving. She could get down in concert.
Her performance as Billie Holiday was nothing short of perfection. The bio film played fast and loose with the facts, but Diana was note perfect. People owe it to themselves to see Lady Sings the Blues, for her performance, if for no other reason. And Richard Pryor, in a supporting role, ain't too shabby either.
Those were the days when a megastar at the top of her game could pull people up on stage from the audience and it was totally cool, Diana was cool, the people were cool. It was all cool.
What a story that kid has to tell ... the night Diana Ross said, 'don't leave me' to him as he danced with her onstage in the unforgettable 1970s! (and his mamma has a story to tell, too ... about the night her son was too stupid to take the big old wad of gum out of his mouth before he stepped onstage with Diana Ross!)
At least she makes it sound easy - it defenitely is not! This just shows how superb her singing abilities really were. Don't know why this always is ignored .... I guess sounding efgortless is not impressive/showy enough..
@Raffael W. Because people think she's an evil succubus and it was because of her and her alone that Flo spun herself out of control and Mary was delegated to obscurity. Sleeping with the boss, etc. I know it is all stupidity, but that is how people thinj
Diana Ross is a walking treasure, I love the fact that she doesn't attach herself to so called stars or celebrities. I see all these lesser stars from the past all up in front of cameras and taking pictures with any stars they can to stay relevent. Diana does her tours and then it's back home to see her Grandkids grow up. She always marched to her own beat and was never Star Struck. She always knew she would be a success.
Yes Diana Ross called Gamble and Huff and told them to come check out her show and her background singers. She would give them a 15 min set on stage and Kenny Gamble came to check them out and they were singing "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" and that's how they got signed to Philadelphia International.
Yooo. That's so dope. I was wondering who those beautiful ladies were and literally thought "I wonder if they got individual record deals" but it was the Jones girls... Nights Over Egypt Jones Girls.. thanks man for educating me
I actually remember this show. I was ten-years-old and I was lying on the floor watching this incredible lady. I didn't know at the time that I liked her, but I was immediately ravaged by her grace and presence. And I think I was in love ever since.
I just saw Ms. Diana Ross FRIDAY NIGHT (5/10/24) and she sand this very song AND STILL TODAY AT 80 she COMMANDED THE STAGE AND AUDIENCE AND ROCKED THE HOUSE JUST LIKE THIS
They WERE successful. The Emotions started as background singers, and they guest sang for Earth, Wind, and Fire. The Jones Girls went on to have their own success after this. Just because YOU haven't heard of them doesn't make them less relevant. Do your research before speaking out of your ass.
Issac Harris, Sadly on one sister is still living she was the lead singer of the group for many years. Check out Nights Over Egypt by the Jones Sisters. The Jones Girls also had a lived video of their song called Win U Back in 1983.czcams.com/video/FxJhCTXOuME/video.html
Preach @TheLanard! Thank you for defending The Jones Girls. They were a very important part of the music that came out of that era. And no one can put a price tag on that. What a treat to know they were doing their thang with La Ross!
Besides from Mad Men introducing me to this song, and knowing how great it is, I just want to say look how comfortable Diana Ross looks on stage! Now that's a true singer, this performance just makes the song better for me.
That girl can wear that dress for sure. At 6:17 she definitely let that more soulful church Diana come out. She could always sing & sang, but she knew how much & when to incorporate it.
+classanddignity I keep forgetting her singing roots are from church choirs. She proves this in her 1987 tv special RHRB. Her voice is absolutely amazing on that 99 number. I couldn't even believe it was her singing, it was soo good. Amazing versatility. She never let her voice get pigeon holed into one style, one of the secrets of her great success
You can tell she genuinely loved what she was doing. It's also interesting that she is doing the long version of this wonderful tune with the seldom heard first verse. Back in 1976 when I was 12 and this song was often on the radio, they usually played a shorter version that contained the second verse and going straight into the disco part.
Amazing performance...and honestly, I would wear that dress today. This kind of thing will probably never happen again, having a superstar of Miss Ross' stature singing live on a TV show, inviting the audience on stage with her. Great stuff.
Yes for Diana Ross’ limited vocal abilities. However, for strong singers like Gloria Gaynor, Sylvester (and Two Tons of Fun [Martha Wash & Izora Armstead], Patti LaBelle (who hated Disco) it was easy. 🎤
She looks amazing... She gets loose and I love that about Diana Ross because she had fun on stage and that makes her really amazing!! I did notice that the guy did play enough with her and that kind of diminish it but Lady Di soldier on and her dress is STUNNING!!
Yes, beneath the Bob Mackie glamour and glitter, there was a real soulful black "girl" there. Many seem to forget that. Just because you are from the ghetto, doesn't mean you want to act like you are.
I liked how Diana pulled that woman on stage too & encouraged her just like the men. I knew at 6:19 she was about to break into her church voice. She just has a light-lyrical soprano voice but not to be confused with a weak voice, not at all. Her voice is so pretty. She is a very good soul singer too!
Even too this day, she has not been topped as the most dynamic female performer too ever hit the stage. There will never be another like her. This is proof how she just commands the stage and connects to the audience.
That's Grammy Award winner Miss Ross to you. She was an incredible live performer who didn't need all the props Weird how such a big star could connect with an audience so well.
The QUEEN Got The House Dancing In Their Seat!! Man What A Lucky Dude To Get To Bump With Dianna Ross That Is An Unforgettable Moment In LIFE !! What A STAR !!
People think she was a weak singer because the record producers always made her tone it down in the studio. As you can hear, she sounds way different singing live in those days. IT was like...WOW! Luckily at her concerts they let her hang it all out, smash it up, stomp it, slay it, and show it who's boss.. But then again, I think those people had hearing problems, because a voice doesn't have to sound like Whitney Houston's in order to have adequate volume, and her voice was high-pitched and nasal, so super loud wasn't necessary.
The opening melody to "No One Wins the Prize" show cases what she was capable of .... Ashford and Simpson definitely brought out vocal techniques and, a dynamic you didn't associate with Diana tracks... She was the real deal...
The brilliant voice of Miss Diana Ross a true legend and a trailblazer just for the record she sold more number one hits than any female artist in this date great performance love hangover.
The Jones Girls on background vocals....this is one of disco's greatest anthems. Definitely top 3, where disco tunes are concerned. its an all time great. She took the blueprint Donna Summer gave us, with the sex-kitten vocal, and ran with it on this jam. Its one of my favorite tunes, period. And I got like 7 different (remix) versions on flash drive. All Hail, 'Lady Supreme'.
Man, if this isn't one of the most passionate, soulful songs. How could you not want to get outta your seat and deal with the hangover. "If there's a cure for this, I don't want it." What a line. And when she lets it out, so sexy.

that dress!!!!!
$20,000 Bob Mackie gown. She was one of his favorite's to dress.
It's a fashion masterpiece, isn't it?
Yes you can tell it's a Bob Mackie original
Classy and elegant. Perfect for Diana.
She’s still with us, folks! Our national treasure!
Where was she going ?
One of most versatile singers in the world...she is not Only one of best soul singers in the world, she can sing pop well too and this is is one of best songs written for her and backup 's singers are good too
I prefer her with lenght hair but yellow dress is pretty and that colour suites her
New York?
Boy can dance ...probably he is a professional dancer
When late night television was awesome and actually worth staying up for.
Being a young white guy in the 70s who grew up digging rock music, I can't deny that I really dug Diana Ross's disco tunes. This lady is one talented class act. Still love her music today even more so. What a great era to be young.
I think that was her comeback in some way. This is a perfect song for her.
The 70s were pretty messed up lol
Everyone dug her .

Doing the bump!!
Diana Ross is noted for being very warm towards her audience/fans, including them and appreciating them
You got that right!
Saw her in Seattle on her 1983 tour and she invited my friend onstage during "Muscles". We were teenagers.
You can tell she really loves performing for people. I just saw her for the fourth time, this time at Radio City Music Hall (6/29/2023)
I can't believe how young The Jones Girls were. They look like teenagers. I'm glad the camera got a couple shots of them, they had such immense talent, and of course Diana was flawless as always.
They def were teens
Shirley and Brenda were prob in their early 20s, and Valorie was prob in her teens!
I’m 23 and just discovered this song. Makes me wonder what other music I’m missing out on because I’ve been listening to it nonstop for three days lol
Try her song You Were The One and tell me what you think. On good speakers of course on streaming, not you tube.
1970’s & 1980’s Music Is The Best To Me. And 1990’s Dancing.
Check out Taana Gardner!
This song is addictive lol
Diana Ross and the great Jones Girls backing her up.
I remember being 14 and staying up to watch the Midnight Special.
Read her biography:while she admits to suffering from some form of anorexia in her younger years (she explains that back then they didn't have a name for this in the black community) she never experimented w/ drugs, especially having studied to prepare for her role in the harrowing life story of Billie Holiday. The Jones Girls!!! Had some hits throughout the late 70s, 80s, and early 90s
I LOVE HOW THE YOUNGBLOOD GETS ON STAGE AND THEN EVERYONE DANCES
AND DIANA DOES THE BUMP
Me too
Diana worked every ounce of that audience's energy. She did it without any gimmicks. Just her & the music! Work it, girl!
That is why she is a star!!! My favorite Diana Ross song.
Shirley, Brenda, and Valerie was sangin’ on that background. ❤❤❤
"DON`T call the doctor! DON`T call da mama!! DON`T call da preach-ah!!! NO! I DON`T need it. DON`T wan iiiit..."
Poor kid was scared to death, up singing for millions of people for the first time AND next to a Goddess!!
I wonder if this young man has ever seen this video?
He looked very confident dancing on the stage.

She sings so effortlessly

That's because she said in an interview, "If not for becoming a singing star, I'd have quite a private life."
I think Tina Turner is the same..// Two amazing queens of music.
How old is she now? Just that Diana Ross did a concert this year. I only noticed yesterday that it was on CZcams.
Because people like Diana and Tina don't need to do that stuff. Their mesmerizing talent stands on its own merit.
David Moody . 5 minutes around that vapid crowd and you'd know why she doesn't attach herself to them... No surprise there
"I got the sweetiest hangover... I don't wanna get over".... Great Diana Ross!
Legendary R&B, The Jones Girls backing her up ❤❤❤❤ RIP Brenda and Baby Sis Valorie 😇😇😇😇

i agree. Beautiful queen! I adore this performance. She is beautiful, fun, sweet, funny, sultry, soulful, and then funky!!!
Great song and performance! It is great seeing the Jones Girls performing back-up vocals. They got their recognition through Diana Ross.
