That organ sound is bloody superb, great band.
Have had the privilege of recording and playing live with Tom and his sense of humour and creativity is plain to see, but what is less obvious to all of us who're also fans of The Carpets (which , let's be honest, is only The Carpets with Tom in it), is his generosity of spirit and real kindness. He's a good bloke, that Tom Hingley.
I couldn't agree more , best singer in the world for me and a absolute sweetheart of a man
Amazing vocalist and songwriter.
Superb. Manctastic
One of the great singers of the last twenty years, just listen to two worlds collide.
Really wish I'd seen them earlier, with Tom.
Tom in the video for Two Wolrds Collide was one of the most beautiful guys I had ever seen. I had such a gigantic crush on him..lol
He was my college tutor for 2 years! Great guy
What ?! Really ?! THAT is a college tutor. Some of mine were pretty good...but they weren't Tom Hingley. 😀
Wow !
Went to see Tom at a gig and he walked around the crowd before he went on saying hello to everyone and having a chat. I remember saying to my mate, f#cking hell that was Tom Hingley, what a sound bloke
A truly nice guy with a great voice and part of a brilliant band....thanks for your facebook reply Tom...stuck here in the USA I am wearing my I.C. cd's out..
met Tom when he did a gig at our local few years back a very nice down to earth man he is.
Tom is the Inspirals... as is Clint, Graham, Craig and Martyn. That is true form of the Inspirals! come on all get together and agree!
Katie Knox not possible anymore.
Never the same when he went as far as me and most people are concerned he's the ORIGINAL singer of the band
Totally agree
brilliant front man and great singer. He was the main reason they were cool as....
Nice honest balanced interview Tom ....may 2017 shine for you and yours !
Cool As......
I bought Tom's book off him directly at The Lantern in Halifax about 2018 when he was doing a solo gig. Loved the book. Loved seeing him live in a very small venue (apart from his blues songs which I couldn't get into).
I love the comment about getting bullied at school for having the haircut - I got shit in 1990 at school for having the bowl cut. Loved those days best feeling.
Excellent Book Mr Hingley, loved every page, moo!
Just not the same without tom 😢
Top quality gig. Tom was on form, playing all the old classics, brilliant guitarist too
Miss you Tom , please have a shave , though makes it look longer than it was ago ,, loved your book by the way
Not the inspirals without Tom! My opinion
For me Tom is the frontman of the Carpets.
thanks, Tom. Best wishes.
The Beast Inside - what an album. Mad story to share: my nan in London (Im Irish) bought the album in some record store in london (Cassette tape...Millennials) and brought it over to me for christmas when it was released in 1991!!
You cannot have the inspirals without tom
the inspirals are shit with Stephen holt, tom is far superior in every way FACT
I remember in the late 80s reading the Face (yeah, hard to believe how important that was back then) about these bands from Manchester that were going to be "bigger than U2!" (Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets & Happy Mondays), in the next few months I would get the three albums on cassette, and Life by the Carpets really was amazing. (I loved the Roses album) but somehow songs like Sackville, Many Happy returns just resonated with me. In the early 90s I remember being down the record shop to buy the Beast inside on the day it was released, (On CD now ;) Go me) then in 1992 in Selfridges I see Revenge of the Goldfish, bought it straight away. Now these days, I get to work all around the world and on every one of my devices theres songs by The Jam, The Who, Rollings Stones and the Carpets, so in what feels a few years I have gone through, Cassettes, LPs, CDs, MP3s and now streaming. My kids (26 and 22) grew up with the Carpets playing in my cars, and juest a few days ago I heard the youngest with her airpods in singing along to Weakness, then Dragging me down. Which made me smile.
SO to Tom and the rest of the Carpets, thanks. your music has literally been a soundtrack to my life and still is.
the book is brilliant - keep the circle around mate - moo
Amazing Guy fantastic singer
Humble.
He is the one the indicated.........IAM FAN OF INSPIRAL CARPETS...FOR HER
got tickets to see Tom solo a week today. Happy dayz
The book is excellent.
I'd like him to elaborate on that comment about Noel Gallagher....
the track at 1:00 is Caravan by Inspirals
Bearded Hingley fucking rules! Defo getting the book.
Who is in the family photo Tom?...Just curious...
Smashmouth owes this band their entire career. "Bitches Brew" is an amazing song.
Heartland by The The - a great track
Gutted when Tom left
How was it?
What's the tune at 0:09? and 1:00? Cheers
1 min is Caravan, 0.09 isn't the Inspirals and not sure of the track.
The The, Heartland is the first tune
G Mex .....good times with me joe bloggs 20"er's on
still am not sure what the real reason he left the band/the band left him? I'm sure money was a factor.....
Why he wants Norah Jones jailed?
Nice bloke, sorry bout his politics though, he dumped me in FB cos I had good things to say about Trump, all that said I love the guy and his great singing in one of the real great bands.
Same but it was 10 years ago and to do with the idea of Britain being independent from the EU way before the referendum. Politics aside he's an incredible vocalist and was a massive influence on me. Never meet your heroes...
What good things did you have to say about Trump 😂 Capitalist, racist, misogynist that he is ❤😅
I witnessed the band just last week in glasgow, and I have to say, they were good, but, the singer wanted to be mark e smith so much it hurt. Clint's son on bass was really good, and Graham Lambert was superb, I mean different gravy.. It was a Clint Boon show really. The drummer was really good too, but the singer was a let down, I sang better.....
Just 2 from the 89/90s 5 then.
Tom is only 45 here but looks horrible.
Any average looking man carting a little bit of timber and grows his grey beard out a little looks like this. Tom looks a little tired, but that's about it. He looks 45.
