It is a new image standard to replace JPEG as a HEIC photo takes up about half the space of an equivalent JPEG file. However, only macOS High Sierra or later can open HEIC photos, extra HEIC codec is needed for Windows 10/11 to view HEIC images, not all photo editors accept HEIC files, etc. Now that HEIC is as of now not widely accepted, you need to convert HEIC to JPG some times.

Step 1. Download WinX MediaTrans, install and launch it on PC.
Step 2. USB connect your iPhone to computer, and tap Trust on iPhone to continue.
Step 3. Click the Photo Transfer button to access iPhone photos.
Step 4. Choose the HEIC photo and click Export HEIC to JPG from the drop down menu of Export.
After HEIC to JPG conversion, you can open and view iPhone HEIC photos on PC without issues.
