Beautiful work! Out of curiosity did you consider using a continuous piece of material for the frame? If you cut a 90° angle in the corner using 2 - 45° cuts then bend at the corner., eliminating the corner weld. This leaves only the miter to weld.
We did talk about that but they wanted a sharper corner and I was worried about the bend on a .120 material like that. it could have saved us some prep time though!
Taking those chances to learn something new is a great challenge is super satisfying when it works!
Extremely timely video. I have a project with a bunch of welded brass coming up, thankfully I only need a brushed polish. I’ve found the silicone bronze works very well in my test samples as well. Thanks!

Excellent work. I use the silicon bronze or Aluminum bronze on previously brazed castings. I’ve never used it on brass. Sounds like it could be a great challenge.
I’m only a beginner welder with an Oxy Ace torch but as a piano rebuilder concert technician, precision is expected and essential. One thought about accepting difficult commissions that I find important is to make sure they understand material limitations and have realistic expectations. I always ask about prior projects they have hired out and their degree of satisfaction with results from other technicians. High standards can carry the day but I sometimes remind prospects that perfection exists only as an ideal. Great work on both the task and the video. Bravo!

What's the guide block you're using on the belt grinder to finesse the 45 degree cuts?
I haven't done brass welding since the early 80's you should have cut the hinge pieces up and used them as filler for welding.
That way you would have had a perfect match. Silicon bronze was probably easier though as you can burn the zinc out of brass if it's overheated (and that can kill you)
My father was a metal polisher and I worked with him one summer vacation, he didn't want me thinking about it as a full time job. (I didn't , way too dirty although I still do various aluminium motorcycle parts for my bikes)
A polisher with mops that size won't just throw you across the room, it will probably rip your arm off as well, how many HP is it?
I thought blue compound was for plastics?
Miters came out really good and pretty spectacular finish overall
So much pressure on this build but you pulled it off it looks amazing
it's crazy that people told him he charges too much; literally has a fab & machine shop supporting this PART TIME job!
Must have been comments from a bunch of penny picher customers customers that wanted him to to work for them.

I made some stainless handrails that had mirror polished edges. Not fun but the result was way worth it.

where did you get your gloves...i love that are not tradiional welding gloves..and they appear to be more flexible than reg welding gloves...I am just starting out on tig welding ...just learning how to do it for fun...I am mainly interested in doing thin aluminum stuff...
I've done a few brass hoods with thicker material tor the trim, I've heard from many fabricators a wide array settings for using low fume brass filler and silicone bronze, what was your guys settings ?
How they made that goden color ?

It is nice and all but: You should have used Silver solder. No sanding no mess after.
That wouldn't have fit the bill, end result would be weaker and doesn't look or polish the same....
@@evanfrucht I am talking about Silver brazing. Like for jewelry. That is just as strong as welding if not stronger. The end result would have been invisible. But it doesn't matter he did it his way.

My day job is a little complicated but basically I am a construction manager for a developer.
Do you have a structural welding certification?
I can’t possibly imagine anyone paying me to weld anything.
Neither could I a few years ago... now it makes up more than 50% of my business.
The welding is only a small fraction of job. The hard part is the fabrication, beveling, cleaning and fit up prep for the weld.
Brass as a decorative trim..... Interesting Did we go back to 1980's?
Only speaking as somebody that regularly polishes things…you can’t polish from 220. The “finished” finish IMO was not very good
Polishes stainless to mirror finish....sneezes.....it's all ruined.

I like these videos of side hustle welding but you are absolutely terrible compared to most of the others. Start reading and listening to your viewers and way less of the show boating. I don’t know when this video was shot but I’m a professional tig welder and can definitely understand if your not in the “CZcams” business anymore
