The glove reveal gets all the glory, and it's a fantastic way to end things, but the Captain saying "We know what you thought, Mr. Kingston" is what cinches it for me. The reveal that he was never actually working behind Columbo's back, but playing into his hands instead.

Love whenever there's a "killer tries to get Columbo taken off the case" plotline. None of them can imagine that another well-connected criminal has tried the same thing before! I bet Columbo's superiors are pretty bored of that trick.

The interesting thing is had Columbo not been so thorough, Kingston could STILL have got away with it - or at least, used what few defenses he had to buy himself a bit more time. Columbo gradually pares away his remaining counter-arguments until he has nothing left. Then I'd offer to help him understand any clues he might be having difficulty with, to throw him off the scent. Finally, I'd give him my daily schedule so he knows I'm not trying to run away, and then he could approach me any time of the day or night to ask any questions....

I love the format of the Columbo mysteries. In most mysteries, we have 5-6 suspects and we don't which one of them did it until the very end. We're as much in the dark as the detective is. In a "Columbo" episode, we know who the killer is right from the start of the episode. We know how he did it and we know how he covered his tracks. We (the audience) have all the information that Columbo lacks and the fun is watching him try to figure it out.

I had to watch this episode countless times to really appreciate the genius storytelling. Every major character has an arc. And it totally reverses our initial impression. Dale at first appears to be the consumate art critic with gobs of natural talent. His Aunt, at first appears to be a dotty, weird and eccentric lady. By the end of the episode, however, we learn that the Aunt was the true genius behind the famous art collection, as she was the one who actually chose the initial paintings when they were first purchased. According to her, a few turned out to be winners. Dale, however, turns out to be a not-so-special art critic who was actually riding the coattails of his Aunt's success.

You can actually pinpoint the moment Kingston puts it all together and his soul begins to slowly break in half like a snickers bar.

My favorite episode. It's so well done on every level, and Ross Martin's reaction at the end is worth the price of admission alone. Let's see today's shows hold up as well after 50+ years.

I love a show that is a step ahead of me. First time i watched this i was thinking "well, he could have planted the fingerprints there and then no?" and then the gloves come out.......no more words uttered and the show ends. Brilliance.

"I'd like an answer if you don't mind." I love how Martin delivers that line, the perfect blend of arrogance and exasperation. And the smirk.
"Yyyy-yyou touched them?" is perfect too.

The look on the Captain's face at 6:00 when Columbo says "Pastels" is my favorite part

He walks around with his hands in his pockets the whole time and we don't even realise till the end.

Did you see the look on Columbo's face when he pulls his hands out his pockets and show's he's wearing gloves?! One of my all-time fave Columbo moments. No words necessary, his eyes say it all: "Come on man, you know it, I know it, we all know it, you're guilty of murder. When you're in a hole, stopping digging, so come on, have some dignity, don't demean yourself anymore than you already have done." All that from a 5 second shot of Peter Falk's body language and non-verbal communication. Absolutely brilliant, subtle acting.

Kevin Pollack is simply an amazing actor. He can play almost anyone.
