@Mary Cherry Damian Darkblood, the devil detective from Invincible is Damian Darkblood
Watch part 2 you'll love it
Hi Mary! You should watch LOGAN !!
Hermosa película gracias por compartir saludos desde Argentina .
@@alexmac8621 I agree
The 1st hellboy is great, the 2nd is literally amazing and underated.
Has one of my favorite movie "villians".
And the "reboot" is trash... David Horbour as Hopper is great, but didn't look good as Hellboy. Ron Perlman has always been a beast, so he was perfect for the role.
Abe & Hellboy getting drunk & singing along to Barry Manilow...
Golden Army is genuinely underrated and an excellent movie sequel.
I prefer first over the second but I know damn well I prefer both of these wayy over the shitty 2019 reboot
They did, they wrote it again with another director and it was garbage. This and it's sequel (which is even better) are cult films and fan favorites, specially because Guillermo del Toro is the goat in fantasy storytelling. It's pacing is diferent but it's meant to be an origin story and character driven somewhat goofy comic book adventure. It's probably not for you but Guillermo's style and storytelling inspired a whole generation of superheroe movies that abound today.
Still 2019 movie is closer to source material than Del Toro movies .
Liz is as little sister to Hellboy in comics and movies have more jokes .
@@pete_lind it's an adaptation. Not everything has to be 100% accurate to the source material. Different things work for different mediums.
Yes del Toro is a very talented storyteller. The first movie I remember him doing was Blade 2. The two Hellboy movies, Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim were all really good fantasy films.
@@CharginChuck I only pointed out one reason the new movie failed , they tried to ram all lore from the comics to that .
@@CharginChuck This. Movies are a different medium.
My heart sank when Mary said she didn’t recognise any of the cast’s names. Ron Perlman should be a household name by now, always a great performance in anything he’s in. Btw Mary Hellboy’s adopted father was John Hurt who had the alien burst from his chest in the original Alien
Right there with you mate - i mean, on the one hand i get it because Pearlman's career has kind of followed the same path as Tim Curry or Clancy Brown in a lot of ways, he's known for a few great film/tv performances, but 90% of everything else he's done that people have seen or heard is voice work and cameos, so they can't put a face or a name to the talent - and he never truly gets the recognition he deserves, but that's just my opinion.
He's also plays Mr. Garrick Ollivander in the HP series
Well, “War…war never changes.”
Don't need to spoil Aliens unless they've already seen.
"Hellboy II: The Golden Army" (2008) is considered by most to be a better film, than the original. The remake "Hellboy" (2019) received generally negative reviews from the audience and critics. Great reactions as always Mary! 👏 Michael
Hey! This “disappointment” was my childhood, the reboot however, is a disappointment
the first movie is very good, but in my opinion the sequel is better
I agree
Yes the second one is better..don't watch the remake..
The only mistake they made with the sequel is not having Myers; they need a regular person in the story for the audience to identify with.
Valentin Ruiz I agree.
This one is definitely Better than the new one tbh
of course
Unquestionably
by far...
This movie is a blast. Ron Perlman is a great choice to play Hellboy the villain is great awesome world building. I don't understand why this movie disappointed you. 10:33 that's not levitation he just jump. 38:40 we had a reboot in 2019 and it sucks.
Ron Perlman is a great choice to play ANYONE!
@@ExUSSailor 😂 true
@@ExUSSailor I can't wait to see him to play Helen Keller in the inevitable remake of "The Miracle Worker."
It was cool to see Ron take the lead as he has been such a great supporting actor for many years. Quest for Fire '81?
Hellboy and Hellboy II: and The Golden Army both awesome movies.
The point of Myers' plea to Hellboy was to delay the apocalypse, since in the comics, Hellboy IS destined to destroy the world, that IS his fate. They cover this in the sequel movie. You should also check out the animated Hellboy movie that also stars Ron Perlman
Interesting timing.. Yesterday Ron Pearlman announced he would be willing to make Hellboy 3 for the fans (even though he is 71).
He loved the character and was shattered when they tried to reboot it without concluding Del Toro’s trilogy. Del toro was just as upset as it was a pet project for him and they both said they didn’t want to make it without each other
You can blame HP Lovecraft for all the "squids" in these types of movies.
Very Cthulhuian flavor.
Unfortunately very few things that try to incorporate Lovecraft see beyond tentacles to what actually made his work great. Although Hellboy's Ogdru Jahad are a lot more Lovecraftian than many other things that have the "Lovecraftian" label slapped on them.
@@KthulhuXxx Agreed. To call something Lovecraftian is a threat of great cosmic power, but is beyond human understanding and indifferent to humanity.
Hellboy is a good example of Lovecraft Lite. If the story has the heroes capable of triumphing over the Old Ones, then it is Lite.
@@KthulhuXxx agreed... but a real Old one would have wiped the floor with hellboy and his friends....
@@KalKratos agreed...
the tentacles are because Del TOro is a fan of HP Lovecraft, a horror writer from 1 century ago, that tells that beings beyond our imagination try to incade the earth and have cultists that try to summon them, they are so different from earth beings that seeing them can drive you insane, most people call it the Cthulhu mythos
I thought it was pretty good, but admittedly it's been a very long time since I saw it. I did think that Ron Perlman made a really good Hellboy
Compared this to the remake, and it’s 10x better! Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro do what they work with and it’s great!
Mary, it's time for you to venture through the world of comics to understand the creation.
Hope you watch the second movie! It’s better in a lot of ways but I’ll always prefer this movie that I watched on repeat as a kid
This is a cult classic, and it blows my mind you can't see how good this movie is, but it's sequel is better. I'm shocked you don't recognize any of the cast.
Hellboy is one of my favorite underrated superhero’s
and it's 100 times better than the 2019 reboot
Fact👍👍
Yes, but that’s most reboots. Any time you make a copy it’ll never be as good as the original.
@@Sweetish_Jeff_ John Carpenters 'The Thing' begs to differ
@@jamesgatz4490 that's amazing
Agreed, it’s not the same without Ron Perlman
The devil guy from Invincible was based on Hellboy, so yeah, they look similar.
Ron Perlman IS hellboy, the attempted reboot was a travesty
If you havent you watch it already, you should watch Pans Labyrinth. Guillermo Del Toro's best film imo
I love this Hellboy movie so much, he is one of my most favourite Comic Book Adaptations! This Movie is in my opinion so much better then many modern Comic Book movies because it has so much more heart and Ron Perlman ist fantastic in this role.... no he is perfect because HB is such a tragic character! Yes the Visuals are a bit a relict of its time but the practical effects are still very very good! Please watch Hellboy 2, i think it is also fantastic! But i advise you not to watch the useless remake, it is just terrible and a total waste of time. ;-)
30:10 As someone who's been locked up in one of those places, it's called a ward or mental health facility, not crazy person home...
3:30 Nazi soldier, standing by while they summon the fifth chaos god. "Warte eine minute... Are we the baddies!?"
You should watch BLADE
It's way ahead of its time
Yup
The sequel might sit better with you, it has less of the grimy horror elements and more of a fairy tale vibe.
Movie suggestion, Pan's Labyrinth
Actually, the devil from invencible is a reference to hellboy in comics haha
Really hope that one day a castlevania-style animation will be made of hellboy
Just love the comics
I love Hellboy. Just as a character. And I love the world and all the other characters in it. This movie is maybe not amazing, but still good and I prefer it over some other superhero/supernatural movies, just because of the characters. Besides, Guillermo Del Toro is just a great director. This is way better than the remake that came out just a few years ago, although I think David Harbour did a good job in the remake, it was just not a great movie.
Mary
Reason for Hellboy's horns being cut is that if he had full horns; Hellboy would be full blown demon vey evil! His horns cut made him kinda normal.
The sequel is much more a relationship story. You'd love it.
Try the Underworld series.
Yes the Underworld series are 👍
Yesssss watch Constantine the one with Keanu reeves, next please!!!! 🙏🏽
Man, watching this video reawakened a part of my brain that just OBSESSED over this movie and its lore. I feel myself sinking back in again lmao
7:50 there's a conspiracy theory that it wasn't Hitler body and he fled to Argentina. Argentinians claim to have seen him there and stuff.
Hellboy is like my favorite comic series and this movie and the sequal are great adaptations. Even if they added the Liz romance, don't think they needed it but whatever.
"Why is Alana Morrisette reading the news?" I know! Isn't it ironic?
Gotta add Shape of Water to the patreon list
You should watch Constantine staring Keanu reeves. It's also a horror superhero type of movie. Very underrated too.
We need more superhero horror movies
Yes we do
Spawn fits that description.
The Living Mummy could be a really good Luke Cage-ish show.
6:48 You pronounced Newark correctly, Mary.
19:45 When Hellboy is petting the kittens, he wags his tail.
One of my most favorite movies of all time ! Watched it as a child and still watch is as an adult
Dude you're getting so close to Blade 🧛
Totally started jammin’ when you went “ra ra Rasputin!” 😂 😂
You need watch Blade
this is one of the few movie series when the sequel is MUCH better than the first
Hellboy 2 was great
Suggestion: "The Cabin in the Woods" (2011), a Joss Whedon film.
Selma Blair who plays Liz, is also in movies like "A Guy Thing", and "Cruel Intentions".
You should check those two out someday.
Right now, she is having her battle with Multiple Sclerosis after leaving Dancing With The Stars.
Hopefully she does fine.
I love Ron Pearlman Hellboy 1 & 2. It's funny you mentioned them rebooting with a different director, because instead of finishing the trilogy they tried rebooting the movie and screwed it up spectacularly.
Ron Pearlman was born for this role.
Fun fact: Vin Diseal was optioned to play Hellboy before Ron Pearlman was cast instead
Any and all respect I had for you went right out the window with the original title of this video alone... the new one isn't any better. You've expressed more than your fair share of questionable taste in the past, but this well crosses the line into unforgivable.
Hellboy 2 was a lot better and expands on the lore a bit as well as hints at Hellboy constantly fighting his supposed destiny to destroy the world, not to mention Liz's place to be at his side despite this destiny
Check out the sequel, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. And watch Del Toro's other movies too: Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, and Crimson Peak to name a few.
2:49- One of the coolest shots I've seen in movies. Assassin dude displaying the arm blades. Also Selma Blair is the best girlfriend. Coolest chick, man. Also Anung Un Rama.
Boy, you’ve begun a HUGE journey, I highly suggest reading the comics, the first arc, Seed of Destruction is absolutely FANTASTIC!
You probably enjoy the animated films more. Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron.
Also I think we need more Superhero horror films
The novels are great too.
Hellboy is "light hearted." Dang Mary you reminded me how we beg our parents to watched this for being "demonic." Glad they let us and we enjoyed it.
It’s always fun revisiting a movie through Cherries eyes. 😄 while we are talking Del Toro, I recommend for Valentine’s Day viewing, “the shape of water”; the most romantic monster movie ever made!
And the actor who plays Abe also plays the sea creature in the Shape of Water (and the faun in Pan's Labyrinth, etc.)
This is a great little film, the sequel is better, but it's a good second place!
Hellboy II: The Golden Army is one of my favourite fantasy/de Toro films.
The train driver is a friend of the director and do a little cameo in all his movies.
I love the reference to Princes Bride.
You mentioned Alanis Morissette. She appears in an important role in "Dogma," along with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Alan Rickman, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, George Carlin, and others.
8:38- I do that all the time to folks who stare at me "What'cha lookin at"
David Hyde pierce is uncredited for the voice of Abe sapien :0…. He was amazing
Ron Perlman was born to play Hellboy. Oh, and he was the Beast in the TV series.
damn i love this movie and the sequel... i remember watching these movies over & over on my psp when i was a kid.
Ron Pearlman is awesome. He went into voice acting. He did the voice of Deathstroke in the Teen Titans animated
Maybe don't read information on it before watching the movie
Now you have to watch the sequel, the golden army.
15:11 I used to play there as a kid:)
I love Hellboy, the second movie is so beautiful to me.
been a grip since I've seen this. In my ancient DVD collection. Perhaps should watch again. : )
Gotta hand it to Mary. Shes consistent with hating classics and popular adrenaline rush type of movies. Hellboy and Hellboy 2 is one of the greatest superhero movies ever and nothing will change that
26:20
#1 i´ll always look this good..
#2 i´ll never give up on you..
and he totally forgot :
if something goes a little wrong,
#3 i´m fireproof....
Hellboy 2 is great also.
Ron Perlman without prosthetics in Pacific Rim 1 (also by Del Toro). Many of the same cast.
Ray Park was the Martial artist playing the undead N@z! guy. He also played Toad in the first X-men, and Darth Maul in Star Wars 1.
They messed up the wooden match trick. You've got to let the chemical head of the match burn away so it's only the wood that's burning. While the head keeps burning in a wind, you've got to shelter the rest of it so the burning wood doesn't go out.
"this blood looks so fate"
well, movies can't use real blood, so..
I remember when this came out, people, including my cousin would talk about it. I don't remember watching it, but I thought I saw some parts. Probably more of the 2nd one than the first. But I didn't really get into it.
I miss those times when I used to turn on TV and watch random movies with no expectations. Hellboy is one of them, I quite enjoyed all Hellboy movies except the latest one.
Del Toro's Hellboys are awesome! Maybe it's a guy thing my wife hates them...
The Eldritch Terrors are what the squid monsters were based on and Cthulu is the god incased in the crystal thingy but they left that ambiguous.
Hellboy is played by Ron Perlman of the "Beauty And The Beast" and "Sons Of Anarchy" television series.
I first watched this movie when I was rather young and Kroenen gave me nightmares.
It's a '04 film, you gotta give some leeway :) 😁😎
we stan honesty, not all movies are good
The comic book is definitely a lot better and definitely carries a different atmosphere. Hellboy acts a lot different in in too, more akin to an older man than that of a teenager which in the comic book's setting it works very well.
now you got to watch the second one
I had to double check to be sure that wasn't actually Alanis Morissette.
The hellboy universe is my favorite comic series. While the movies are fun, i never thought they captured the comic well.
Are you OK? Girl.
Hellboy 2 is amazing a must watch
The sequel, "Hellboy: The Golden Army", is far superior and for two major reasons - 1. They don't have to address origins and set up of all the characters which drags down the first movie... and 2. They put a secret ingredient in the sequel that they forgot in the first movie... FUN! I recommend you watch the sequel and have some fun.
They are part of a small group of movies which did this. Terminator/T2 and Alien/(S) are a good example.
honorary 3rd reason
hellboy & abe singing
Hellboy 2 is a better movie and I really liked it's villain. It also gives you a better peek into the Hellboy world.
Yeah, the devil from "Invincible" is based on Hellboy.
Seeing this makes me want to watch the second Hell Boy. The second one is much better IMO
You need to watch PACIFIC RIM
Is also from Del Toro
Yes
You should watch the second one, Hellboy and the Golden Army. Much better.
