  • Named after the Brazilian vulture the Urubu is Little Cloud's latest paraglider aimed at EN-C level pilots. The wing is the highest performing paraglider in the company's range. We caught up with designer Tom Bordeau on the landing field at the Stubai Cup 2020 to find out all about his latest creation - and why he doesn't believe in getting his gliders EN-certified.

I really like what Tom says about the feel in the air, and it is very true that a big portion of certified gliders sometimes needs to be "Tuned", and that could lead to a different feel. It's, also of course, less costly to certify, and more difficult to sell. But serious manufacturers won't release any product if it's going to be messy when controlling it. Tom's comment about a collapse in turbulent real air differs from the induced ones is very true! I'll see if I can get one...Thanks for the vid!

Great review, very informative video. I wish the interviewer would have pressed for an answer on the statement regarding the wing “not pitching forward to regain air speed”. I very much want to understand more about what he is describing. This is where some in-flight footage would have been useful, especially at the point when he is saying that en-certification is not the same as in the real world, show us this wing handling in real world conditions.

Hi John, Tom's explanation of why his wings don't pitch much is that his early design work was done on kites where you can't have the kit going over your head and so the designs and profile he created had this as part of their DNA. Yes sadly we were unable to get any flying shots of the wing at Stubai but we are planning on getting one to review in the next few months. You may also find it interesting to read our review of his previous wing the Gracchio although it is more aimed at B class pilots - you can find it at xcmag.com/magazine-articles/paraglider-reviews/little-cloud-gracchio-review/
