I enjoyed the video very much and will make sure my husband sees it too. He waited several years for the martins to move into his set up and his patience finally won!!! We now have the martins. This is their second year here. They are great to have around and help with Mosquitos. Our's are very protective of their nesting site and when active, it is not uncommon to get dive-bombed LOL They ar welcome here with open arms and hearts!!!!! Kathy

Wooden houses are the best - birds love them and they make a great project to share with kids (in my case, with grandkids) What a great video of birds!!

For more information go to Purple martin conservation web page. The starling and English House sparrow were a sad mistake they never should have been released in the US.
Starlings kill Martins and House sparrow peck and kill there chicks. Who can not have compassion for a bird who depends on people for a home.....

The Purple Martin is slowly recovering from 40 years of the
wrong houses in place in the USA. A sad but true story but
one that made the Aluminum house industry very rich. Today
Martins nest in Starling resistant houses and gourds. Like
the ones seen. Many more are needed they prefer to nest at
Country clubs and Golf Coarse sites. And are very popular
there as they eat bugs that harass the golfers. Many Country clubs across the country host these birds

Removal of small aluminum houses has benefit the species and there making a major comeback
please pressure people to remove the small aluminum houses with gourds and large wooden
houses that are starling resistant. There back nesting in area's where they have not nested in over 100 years. The birds can produce many more chicks and there numbers grow rapidly. This is a grass roots effort and people can make a difference if we all work together.

Very tame and lovable song bird they are dolphins of the bird
world. More common in southern states but do nest in the
northern area of the country just not as common. The birds
return for many years to the same house. The aluminum
house industry is to blame for the decline there houses were
only six by six and it retarded the numbers of eggs the females produced. Super gourds have replaces the aluminum houses that were to small.
