    This is why Serena is the greatest tennis player of all time.
    She comes into a tournament ranked #81 in the world, having played 4 tournaments in the past 16 months and goes down 6-1 5-3 against the #5 player in the world and finds a way to win.
    Everyone and I mean EVERYONE wrote Serena off at the start of 2007. This tournament was a statement for the ages.

      Especially that final the absolute unexpected and greatest BEATDOWN of all time (vs Sharapova). It was almost like the physically beat up Sharapova in the locker room before they came out on court!

    • @user-ex8kc3kp6s
      @user-ex8kc3kp6s Před 4 lety +1

      Yep, but can you blame them for counting out Serena? I mean, she really was out of shape here and had lost early in a warm up tournament. I didn’t even expect her to win the tournament if I’m being honest.

      @iceman9109 Před 4 lety +5

      @@user-ex8kc3kp6s no i dont really blame them for counting her out. im a huge fan of hers and i counted her out, but they didnt just count her out. they basically acted like serena had one foot out of the door. they called her fat and old. i remember turning the tv on mute because i just couldnt stand to hear the commentary anymore.

    • @user-ex8kc3kp6s
      @user-ex8kc3kp6s Před 4 lety +3

      benjamin bellotti yeah, they acted like she was done for and that Maria would dominate

    • @Lishmaa

      @@iceman9109 Agreed! She was called a has been and if I'm correct I remember Pat Cash calling her washed up and saying she should retire. Many tennis commentators were saying she should retire during that tournament and she proved them all wrong. I remember the final, literally everybody said Maria was going to crush her in striaght sets yet she proved the way wrong. Honestly one of the greatest grandslam runs in my opinion. Unfit and ranked 83? I don't know anyone who could've pulled that off.

      @hsedo2126 Před 4 lety +8

      Tiburcio Tumbagaha Jr. 2012 definitely is an EPIC beatdown and on par. The 2007 aus final I believe is because Serena was world no.81, played 4 tournaments in 2006, out of shape and many even calling her ‘overweight’, little match play, underdog. She also came off depression from the murder of her sister. Nike also threatened to drop her if she didn’t make the Quarters (or maybe finals even) and also many writing her off and calling her done in the finals against the world no.1 and even saying Sharapova is the best etc. That’s why I think it’s best BEATDOWN 😇

    Nobody else in the history of the game would win against all odds and ‘seemingly’ unfit ranked 81 unless you are Serena Williams. No doubt in my mind the greatest female player of all time.

    Serena needs to channel this version of herself, where she was clearly the underdog (imagine that), expected to crash out early and clearly underestimated. Here she was truly playing like she had nothing to lose and just took on the challenge.
