One of the best gardening video with clear explanations n practical demonstrations. Some that I had watched were not so detail n lacks practical demonstrations that are not suitable for beginners.
I'm glad it helped. Thank you for watching. ❤ ❤
I love your videos. I live in Alabama, almost next door to you. 😊 I start my collard greens like you and I have billions of seeds saved. Also have Kale, Broccoli and other vegetables too. But I love way you planted the store bought greens. Thats so awesome! I grow my own because they also spray non-organic harmful chemicals on the vegetables and I refuse to eat it. Its really sad that most of the food at the store has been treated even the grains and meats. So people like me grow all our own food.
I AM SO NEW AT THIS GROWING STUFF. SMILES. LOVED THIS VIDEO ALSO CUZ IT SHOWED PROGRESS.
Keep up the good work!
@@DonnaRatliff1 Awesome. 👏😊 Thank you for watching, Donna. ❤ 😍
Yes great instructions.. thinking to plant mine on pot
TIP! After the flowering and seed pod period, DO NOT cut down the plant, DO NOT dig up the plant. LEAVE IT! It will grow back and begin to produce leaves again. Just remember to water and fertilize and use the neem oil spray to reduce bugs.
💯 correct. I do this too every year. Thanks for sharing. ❤ 😍
Hi there. I'm new to your channel. What kind of fertilizer?
Yep. This is how we get Kale year after year!
@@shaundakcurtis9266 fish emulsion works great its organic
@@shaundakcurtis9266 grass clippungs are also high in nitrogen
Collard plants grow very large so set the smallplants 2 ft apart in the row. I usually plant a double row and stagger the spacings rather than planting one beside the other as the double row pairs.
Excellent advice!
I absolutely love collard greens. Great sautéed with onion an garlic, in a small amount of bacon grease, or good olive oil, whatever is avaiable. To eat it with some rice and beans.❤
Omg!!! That sounds delicious. 😊😊😃 Thank you for sharing, Heidi. 💕💕
Thank you for sharing😋😋
Great video 👍🏼 I spent $3 for one packet of Collard Green seeds and I save seeds every year. Same concept. Home grown Collards are so much better than store bought! ❤
Right. Home grown are the best. Thank you for watching, Amy. ❤
I am definitely going to try home grown.🙌🏾
Great step by step on how to grow collards and how to collect the seeds. Thanks for sharing!👍😊
You're welcome, Elwanda. Thank you for watching. ❤ 😍 💖
Oh, man! I really appreciate all the time, effort and dedication you put in to doing this full circle video for us. I will definitely try ot out.
You’re welcome, OAS. Thank you for watching. 💕💕💕
I did not know you could do this. Thank you so very much! This will be helpful to feed my family.
You're welcome, Janice. Thank you for watching. ❤ 😍
Thanks for the video! I like my collards cooked with hamhock or neck bone. I also like it cooked in this vegan bouillon cube from Trader Joe’s or mixed with sautéed kale and broccoli sprouts.
Collards and black eyed peas, or collards and macaroni or collards and sweet potatoes are always a delight and take me back to my childhood
Mmm, collards, sweet potatoes and ham. Kale on the other hand I will feed to a critter then eat the critter.
🤔🤓🍻

That sounds yummyyyyy. 😃 😊 Thank you for sharing. ❤ 😍
Thanks so much for the seed-saving process for collards. I grow them often but have never thought about saving the seeds or regrowing the plant. Your instructions were clear and it was pleasant to listen to you. I'm going to try your techniques starting this season. I never have success with saving seeds so wish me luck. I will be looking for your future videos.
You're welcome, James. 😊 Thank you for watching. ❤
I actually did this as an experiment with store bought collards from last year's holiday season. I sat it in water for 2 weeks first to get nice root system. I changed the water every 2 days. I planted and they grew well. The only thing I noticed was that the leaves were longer and not as wide as the ones I transplanted. I just removed them after the brutal heat of Florida.
Sylvia, I appreciate you so very much. I've learned so much from your channel. God bless you ♥️
Amen 🙏. Thank you so much.😊 ❤ 😘
I just subscribed hoping to learn more!
It is just amazing how we put in the stems and then viola there's our huge plant.. I really enjoyed watching this video and can't wait to stop by for fresh collard green rice😋.. Good to have you back on the grind darling.
It's truly amazing. 😃 😊 Thank you for watching. ❤ 😍
Awesome! I have done this with Napa cabbage and leeks, I think celery would work as well. Also some types of plants (most cabbages for example) must have at least 2 plants to make viable seeds, so it would be a good idea to have at least 2 plants growing, so just get 2 bunches and do exactly this but with 2 near each other!
You’re right, Victoria. 😊 I actually did 2 bunches. Thank you for watching. 💕💕
Thanks a bunch for your advice Victoria!
I’m so glad you posted this! I’m so used to seeing the kind at the store without the root base so I never even thought about this even though I regrow lettuce and green onions 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Question: do you think maybe they got bitter quickly because it’s hot and so it went to flower?
I’m thinking doing this in the fall winter they won’t get bitter quickly from regrowing since they won’t be going to flower any time soon.
Yes, once they bolt(flower) they get tougher and more bitter. 🤓🍻
I am so happy to learn more about collard greens. I am currently growing a few plants. One plant everything on the leaf was eaten by bugs leaving the stems like a skeleton. It leafed out again.
Cabbage worm? You have to look closely for them under the leaves and pick them off.
First time viewer. This is probably the best video I’ve seen on how to replant to grow. And obtain the seeds. Great video
Thank you for watching, Donna. ❤ ❤
Wonderful video. You've answered all the questions I've had about growing collards. Many thanks!
You're welcome. 😊 Thank you for watching. ❤ ❤
Love collard greens! Best tip was the spoon to put seeds in baggies! Love my greens with bacon or smoked Hogg jawls and ham hocks! ❤
That sounds yummyyyyy. 😃 😊 Thank you for watching, Shy. ❤
Good morning and Thank you. If we as a people get together and grow our own fruit & vegetables then when its harvesting times, we share with one another. this will force these store to lower their prices. For example I grow peppers, onions etc, your friend or neighbor grow collards ,cucumbers another grow, garlic, ginger etc. And when its time to pick them we all share what each one has grown. This would be epic & it teaches our Family , children ,grandchildren etc to be self sufficient. Especially in these times of lack. Thank you again💐💃🏾💐
That's right. 😊 Thank you for watching. ❤
Wow. I never knew this about the collard greens. Thank you so much
You’re welcome. Thank you for watching. 🥰🥰💕💕
One of the best practical gardening videos . I have used the same technique for harvesting callaloo ( amaranth) seeds . Just cut the stems and inserted them in a container with compost. Watered. Voila ! Lots of mature seeds. Sundried and saved for next year. Thanks.
Awesome 👏. Thank you for watching, Yujiadut. 💕💕
This was very informative easy to understand directions. Thank you for your sharing. I'm new to gardening and will be following your channel.
You're welcome, Alice. Thank you for watching. ❤ ❤
Nice. Thank you.
When I was a kid I stuck a brussel sprout into my mom's garden. It grew so tall and she couldn't figure out where it came from.
Just one raw Brussel sprout! I will try this too. Thanks!
Hahaha. Did you tell mom the truth later? Thanks for watching, Nancy. ❤ ❤
Yes I had forgotten all about it. When she mentioned it I told her and she was pretty surprised.
LOVED THIS!!! The level of detail and time lapse was great! ❤
Thank you, E B. 😊 ❤
If you pull the Collard Leaf close to the stem, it will continue to grow into a Collard Tree. The Collard Tree can grow for years and when it gets too tall, you can cut the stem and place in soil and it will continue to grow.
Enjoyed your video
Blessings To All Worthy Of Being Blessed
Imagine having a whole family of Collards, all related to each other !
Oh my goodness... this is so educational. God willing I will do this process in my garden journey.
Thank you!!
Sylvia this an excellent video and precious information! You are a absolute collard greens rock star, in my eyes. Thank you!
Yes to the “collard greens rock star”. 💃🏻🥂 Hahaha. Thank you so much, Catherine. 💕💕💕🥰🥰
I use them to make collard green wraps and fill with beans, rice and other goodies have on hand and just wrap it up and eat!

It's a great way to get more greens for sure. I love your technique!. 💓💓 I love collard greens scrambled with eggs. 🥚🥚

I've never tried to grow them, but just planted 6 plants, I will be trying this way too! Thanks for sharing this! I save seeds all the time!
You're welcome, Debbie. Saving seeds equals saving money. Way to go!! Thank you for watching. ❤
Thank you so much. I had no idea that you could actually grow greens again like this. Also you are the only person whom I have found on the internet who recognises greens and shows how to grow them from seed. Again thank you and I will be following your other interesting videos.
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching. 😊 ❤️ ❤️
Nice! You can do this with store bought turnips too. Plant the root bulb in spring and you will get some leaves to eat but it will produce seeds as it warms up. You can usually still eat the root as well.
Awesome 👏. Thank you for watching, Colley. 💕💕
Love and enjoy listening to your video! I did this last year and fixing to plant the seeds this year!
Awesome 👏. Thank you for watching. 💕💕
Excellent advice! I love collards and plant them every year. This will really help!!!
I'm glad it helped. Thank you for watching, Bette. ❤
I did this with cabbage.
It started growing cabbage leaves. I've never left it long enough to see if fully grown cabbages will result. I keep plucking the small cabbage leaves to add to my veggie dishes
Just harvesf the outer leaves only. The plant should continue to grow.
Cabbage sprouts are delicious, better than cabbage in my opinion
@@MaLiArtworks186 I'll try leave it for a while and see what happens 🥬🥬
Very nice work! Thorough and easy to follow. You are just talented!
Thank you, Boyd. ❤ ❤
I render some bacon or use salt pork or ham hocks and cook with red onion until the onion starts to soften. Chop up and cook the greens until they soften a little in same pan. Add some homemade bone broth, lots of homemade garlic powder, pepper, red pepper flake, homemade onion powder and smoked paprika. Salt as needed. Cover and simmer for a couple hours. I like them slightly tender with a little bite. Whoo! They are always better the next day too.
love the way u explained everything...good teacher for sure...thank you!!
You're welcome. 😊 Thank you for watching, Lolita. ❤
Thank you for this info. I've been hunting seeds but now I know how to regrow and collect seeds. So informative sis.

You're welcome. Thank you for watching. ❤
If you have overwinter greens you can also let them go to seed in the New Spring season.
Such a great an informative video. Clear and easy to understand directions thank you . This method should work for kale and broccoli rabe. When I grew broccoli rabe I collected so many seeds but didn't know how to use them correctly this will help tremendously.
Yes, it works with Broccoli too. Thank you for watching, Donza. ❤
Iv put seeds into plastic ziplock bags and they collected moisture and molded. After that I cut an envelope in half and made two seed packets....put seeds inside packets and sealed with pkg tape. Then store in cool dry place. I dry seeds on the top shelf of my mini green house.
I didn’t think that the collards would root with those collards like that. Thanks 😊😊😊
You're welcome, Mildred. Thank you for watching. ❤️ ❤️

I've done this with celery but not collards. When I cook them I only add ham bones or scraps or hocks, depends on what I have handy. No sugar like many people do. If I feel they need sweetened when I taste test towards the end I might add some molasses or honey. 🤓🍻👍
Excellent video! I live here in Georgia and wanted to see if there was a method for me to plant collards without having to start from seed.
I did a random CZcams search and saw all sorts of videos and then i landed on yours! Thank you so much for your knowledge and willingness to take the time and share what works and even the things that don't.
I tried your method for planting collards from the stalk about 2 weeks ago and it is working 😁. I have leaves beginning to grow from the stalks and am very excited!
I have a problem though... something is eating at the leaves of my greens🤔... any suggestions? I know it may also be because I am planting in the summer instead of the fall when there are way fewer pests.
Thank you again for sharing these videos. I have gone through several of your videos since coming across your channel and all have been extremely helpful👍😊!
You're welcome. 😊 You're right. During summer the pests are alot. You can cover them with a garden net to keep pests away. Thank you for watching. ❤️ ❤️
Very good demonstration-thank you for sharing 😊
You’re welcome. 😊 Thank you for watching. ❤️
I use them in my lentils, or beans, also save the stems along with other vegetables cuttings (onions, garlic, celery, etc) freeze them. I save roasted chicken skin in a piece of cheese cloth and put it in there. When I have a good amount I boil them in my double boiler for vegetables broth to use in other dishes. I will check another grocer for the root end.
That sounds yummyyyyy, Aminah. Thank you for sharing. 😊 ❤ ❤
This is a very informative and helpful video. I love it and I’m a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing. 😍
I just planted Collard greens and growing so well for about a month and one day when I went to my tiny garden saw all my collard greens with no leaves at all. 😞 Something was eating them but don’t know what is. Could you please share on your next video how to care and get rid of the insects/ pests naturally. I grow organically. I’ve been growing Collard greens for 2 years now and this is the first time I encounter this problem. Any suggestions. Your attention would be greatly appreciated.
