You’re so right, Nikki. 😃😃 Thank you for watching. 🤗🥰
Absolutely ❤️
yes it is ssssssds❤❤❤❤
Store don’t sale green with stock on them no more
Absolutely THE BEST video on how to grow and harvest collard greens-from leaves to seed! THANK YOU!! I’ve learned so much from watching. God bless you and your family.
You’re welcome, Sony. Thank you for watching. 💕
As you gather the dry seed pods, put them in a paper bag . Leave them in the bag until they fall out of the seed pods. Also , if you have geen seed pods just them in the sun until they all dry out and the put the in a bag. Once they dry they will fall out the seed pods. If you want to grow several plants, create a larger space using compost and spread several seeds. Once the plants grow 6 to 8 inches in height, pull out some and replant in a row. 👍
I do that too. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊🤗🥰
Thank you. I was wondering what you do with the pods next.
This is so great, thank you so much
@Kayden Lionel )
I have a collard plant that has gone to seed already and it is growing tall and has some pods, but they are green. When do I take the pods off of the plant? Do you need to refrigerate the bag with the seed pods and seeds or just leave bag in a cool dry place?
I did 4 of these this spring and the greens were so good. I recently moved them and they are still going strong.
Did you pinch off the flowers? I think the plant will keep making leaves if you don’t let it flower. Thank you.
@@serenity8644 no I just put them in the ground snd lots of leaves grew. They were tender and flavorful.
I turned my garden bed into a giant compost last year. I was getting tons of scraps from local grocery stores. I layered it all down with soiled vegetables then covered with all the leaves from last fall, after that i covered it with some partly finished compost, finally covering all the completely with cardboard. When i uncovered it late February i had something growing. I think it probably is collards. I have tomatoes, squash, zucchini and cucumber seedlings self starting out of it now that the soil in getting warm.
Covered:December
Uncovered:late February
Wow!!! Great job, Tyler. Thank you for sharing this. 😃😃 🥰
I bet the worms went crazy!
Would you add detail to the things you did to achieve the greatest soil enriching activity I’ve read about so far. I am a new gardener and trying to learn as much as possible!
This also works for the tops of daikon radish, carrots, and planting the core of cabbage. Not for the vegetable but to eventually get seeds after the flower. Taro tops is what Im experimenting on now.🌱
Free seeds! Also if you slice the bottom of you onion half an inch thick and plant it root side down with just a slight dusty of soil over it you will get 3 onions sprouts that will turn into bulbs... yes really. Try these please because we need to grow our own food as much as possible.
Wow. Thank you so much for sharing, Vida. I'll definitely try it. 🤗😍
You're right. Did the carrots, celery, green onions and bell pepper.
Do you plant the cutting directly to the soil
@@leticiasambeli9764 Yes. With a little dirt scooped up around the edges with the tops just peeking through. Keep them watered.
I planted white radish seeds and they grow like carrots are the leave edible to eat and how do I cook it.tks.
Thank you sister for sharing your wisdom. I grew up here in America; eating collards, mustard, turnip and rutabaga greens here in Florida. It’s difficult to find in grocery stores in Southern Florida. Now I know how to grow them 😊
You’re welcome, Sis. Thank you for watching. 😊🤗🥰
I'm so happy to find your channel 💓 you just taught me to collect seeds from my collards! Winning!
I’m glad it helped. Thank you for watching, Courtney. 🥰🥰💕💕

Nothing better then keeping it simple, y’all…thank you so much, Sylvia, for helping the ones that overthink these things 🙏🏻❤️💕😘
You're welcome, Earthling. 😊 Thank you for watching. ❤
Next time put the seeds on top of a white towel or sheet. It will be easier. Also you can put those dry pods in a pillow case and roll or massage the pods and the seeds will come out easily. Your kids will love that too! I would have loved to see your garden. Tfs🙏🏾👍🏾👏🏾
Wow!!! I never knew that. Thank you so much for sharing, Zalia. Yes, my kids love it.
I love you advice! I just harvested my greens and left the root in the pot to grow more! They were so tasty! Thank you so much! I am going to try the soup too! Blessings!
You’re welcome, Evangelist Hunter. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching. 🥰🤗
A few years ago I had an impossible time finding collard green seeds. I wish I’d known about this method! I’ll definitely try this technique this year.
Wow!! This is incredible. I never knew I could do this. Thank You so much for sharing.
Your kids are getting another gift from you, and that is the gift of joy in the garden! You love what you're doing, and that is soaking in for them, even if they don't register specific things you are doing. And they may not take up gardening until they're older. You're planting the seeds!
Aww!!! Thank you so much, Grover. I appreciate you. 💕💕💕
@@sylviasandy 😁 And your voice is very pleasant, and the way you talk is relaxing, too.
Thanks for sharing. You and the kids lol. I am in Dallas, TX and having a horrible time trying to grow greens. I planted outside but the bugs were eating, by the time I covered with Mesh I think it was just too late. I have a few leaves growing on three of them so waiting to see what happens. They don’t seem to be doing much, so it may be the soil too. The top soil is good because I get mushrooms and all, but what was underneath may be problematic (I added some vegebale food too). I recently put some new seeds in humidity pots. They were outside but I am guessing it is just too hot, so I just brought them inside until is gets a little cooler. I have not seen any stores give out the stocks because most harvesters probably just use there own stems again to keep there farms producing :-(. I am not going to give up lol.
Yes, that’s the spirit. 💪 We don’t give up. We try again and again till it works. Lol. Thank you for watching, Corretta. 😍💕🥰
Trial and error are some of the beautiful things in gardening.
Great tip I appreciate knowing collards can grow back from stems!
I’m glad it was helpful. Thank you for watching, Trout. 🌺🥰

Hi Silvia ! Just a visit your channel and I discover this plant , we feed the bird with that seeds , when is fresh , in México ! But now I lived in US and I eat collars , but when I discover your video and saw the seed ,wow!
Wow!! Thanks for sharing, Rosa. 😃🥰
Thank you for this video, I have been searching and no one explains it like you.
*_Oh my oh my! This was one of the purposes I started my garden to learn to regrow from food! Where do you store the fried seeds until you are ready to plant? And what temperature or time of year can you plant the stems to let them go to seed? This is a very good video New subscriber with your bell on! Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️_*
Hello. Thank you for watching. I store them in ziplock bags or brown paper bags. I plant them in early Spring......about 50 to 65 degrees.
@@sylviasandy Hi I live in Puerto Rico and everything gets moldy due to the humidity and heat. Should I save the seeds in ziplock in the bottom of my refrigerator, where I put vegetables? Thankyou for the video, I just subscribed!
I don't use veggies for just that reason. I always use old paper envelopes to reuse them. I kinda like the ones with a window because then I can see the seeds. I store mine in photo albums. Put them on the shelf and they don't get misplaced!
Autocorrect got me. I don't use plastic baggies.
This video was extra FUN because the kids played with the seeds and OH MY GOD🤣Loved it! Thanks this was awesome information!
They’re a hand full. 🤣🤣 Thank you for watching, Debra. 💕🥰
I did this with mustard greens. An easier way to get all the seeds out is to put all the seeds in an old pillow case and bash it against the floor or a wall. the pods will split with the bashing and the seeds will be out with far less effort. put it all out on a tray and either blow or tap the tray in a slanting position to make the seeds roll down. what is left is just the dried pods on top. or use a grain mesh / sieve to separate the seeds from the empty pods
After cutting off the root area of my green onions I put the roots in dirt and it regrows as well. Now I know I can do the same with the collards. Thank you so much for sharing ❤
Yes, you can. I used same process 2 weeks ago to my celery and now it’s growing out. Thank you for watching. 💕
Thank you for this knowledge. I didn’t know you could plant greens this way. I’ll have to check out our markets. Most of our greens come in bunches of leaves no bottoms. Blessings to you 🙏🏾
You’re welcome, Wanda. I’m glad it helped. Thank you for watching. 💕
Not every store sells greens with the root stock like that uf you can find it buy it. Thank you for sharing.
Grean spring onions are the same buy from the store use all but 2inches or so from roots pyt in water for 4-5 days un window sill or sitting in good light. Then plant in ground you'll never need to buy them again they grow over and over allow them to seed and collect the seed head and youll have seeds to plant forever tear after year.
You’re right. Thank you for watching, Tim. 💕
@ Tim Wa Agreed! I started doing this over a year ago in London, England and have not bought spring onions since that time.
Thank you. I will do this the next time I buy greens.
Awesome. 👏 Thank you for watching, Diane.

Amazing! 😍 But we don't have collard green vegetables here though, we only have seeds. So yeah... Hahaha I'm growing Collards from seed and I already have seedlings now it's a very long process but we're getting there 😆🙏🏻
Go ahead, Michael. It’s worth every effort. Grow your own organic vegetables. 😍 Thank you so much for watching, Michael. 💕
You can do this with celery ,kale, green onions, lettuce, even carrot ends.

You’re welcome. Thank you for watching. 💕
Great video my question is if I plant the collard green stalk the way you did the collards greens will grow continually thereafter? Thank You
Yes, they will. As long as you don't uproot it.
I will add my experience with collards. Grew in GA now in FL. Srarted with seeds from a feed and seed store will not find otherwise. Gather seeds as suggested always store in paper or card board containers to avoid mold and mildew. Would place brown seed pods in a cloth sheet or newspaper and walk on it, remove the husk of the pods, and pour seeds in the container. EASY! After your collards are gone, treat that area with lime. The soil will be depleted and needs to be built up. It takes three months for that area to be able to absorb nutrients again. Also, when I only pick the larger bottom leaves, pick a batch every two weeks blanch and flash freeze (thin layer will break apart after an hour) if desired to store for later. Caution on eating to much raw at a time or if you are on blood thinners.
Oh, you could use a hair dryer to blow the pods off the seeds. Have fun!
Thank you for sharing, Rhonda. ❤️ ❤️
Excellent and useful garden content. I will try this method! Thank you!

Always good to know
Thank you from a Deep South Dade County Floridian. Grew up in Miami when it was still a small town, eating greens, beans, cornbread, ham hocks, Mac n cheese. We figured we’d better start growing our food recently and I am in the process of working on our garden. I have four collard stalks and intend to plant them. A couple of questions, though. How much space do I need to have for them. And I’ve seen a few vlogs that recommend using “root boost” on the stalks. Good idea? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. You give me the courage to think I actually can grow the food I need to feed my family.
Hi Michelle. You're welcome. Growing your own food is the best. You can space it 2or 3 feet apart. I don't use root boost on mine. Thank you for watching, Michelle. ❤ ❤
