ENG won the toss, chose to bowl due to slow pitch and dew conditions later, got Head and Warner out early, Smith and Labuschagne grinded it out until few quick wickets had Labuschagne knocking singles out, Green and Stoinis got 30-40 each, and at 40 over mark, both were gone, AUS was staring at being all out. Zampa and Starc added 40 runs to take AUS total to 270+ despite only 2 wickets remaining. AUS, despite having dewy conditions tried their best in field. Zampa despite the dewy conditions and no spin on offer, took 3 for 21 in 10 overs.
AUS won by 33 runs. This shows, you can't win/depend on toss, pitch, conditions for victory, you have to win it regardless.
And more over that day the dew was there more than it was on that final day.

Many might think that Australian bowling put early pressure on Indian Batsmen, but that was not the case. Cummin's brilliant captaincy and good fielding kept Indian batsmen tight in the start. That brilliant catch by Travis Head and quick wicket of Shreyas send India into a shell. Although when Kohli got out, India were still in the game and were aiming around 270-280 total, but when the ball started to reverse swing. it became difficult even to reach that 240 total.
240 was not enough total to defend on this pitch. In the Australian batting inning, I knew if Australian openers build a platform for Smith or Marnus, Indian bowlers will struggle to take the wicket of Smith and Marnus. Bumrah got Smith, but the way Marnus was middeling the ball, I knew he would stay until the end. Hats off to that brilliant inning from Travis Head 137(120) which was the key reason of Australia's victory today.

Rohit did brilliant aggressive captaincy throughout the tournament. He had slips to jadeja and kuldeep throughout. But today when he is defending 240 didn't have slips to his spinners, who are best in the world. Guess what Head and labuschagne both nicked one, would be straight into slips hand.
Also with his batting, he knew we are playing with 7 batsmen + 4 number 11s and one of them is surya who just bats in one gear and one jadeja. So basically just 5 batsmen. When he saw gill get out early and he had to value his wicket and change the way he plays. I heard ponting say on air to one of the commentators that you would want to score big one in the finals and 40 is not enough.
Virat too was playing perfectly but that fu**ing chop onto the stumps. He had to bat through till the end for india to have a chance, but alas not to be.
Others, i did not had any expectations from them on a difficult batting pitch.
It is about ability and rohit & virat were the ones who had it

Australia read the pitch very well than us , Even we won the toss we would have lost as rohith said he was going to bat first as well , with 7 batters on paper losing 3 early in this slow kind of pitch , definitely we lose any day unless we read the pitch right , go slow and calm approach but we didn't , Gill , Rohith , and iyer were playing like they have to put on 350 something which is not at all possible in this pitch ,when we Lost 3 wickets it became very easy for Australia as we had only 7 batters .

2003 India was a great team but it was placed against one of the all time best team of the world. 2023 australia is an average team, as that of 1983 of India, but placed against a good team. Overall, all the teams of this world cup are average. The average of all teams of 2003 is much much higher than average of all teams of 2023.
Even in 2003, India didn't deserve to lose by 100+ runs no matter how good Australia were. England gave tough fight against Australia in 2003.
Basically in both the occasions our bowlers and middle order completely choked.

Suryar tryed to play shots in 47th over and it was too late. But India played like champions. Good luck in future.

True , we dominated one of the best in recent times , and thats why it even hurts more , because we know , this was the best team of the deacde with momentum , and it would be difficult in coming years to reach at this levels , with greats like VK and hitman out of the game by 2027 .. Infact it took us 11 years after 2011 to reach back to this stage , and possibly will take more time to get new players like VK or Hitman .

Wankhede is a chasing paradise. Even if it was 500, its still chaseable. We did pretty good job with the ball i believe in SF. What hurts is that we changed our strategy today, bringing jadeja before sky and not trusting sky to do better, bringing shami before siraj to bowl, no slips when required.

Australia beat us in our game with amazing tactics and Indian team felt the pressure of huge crowd. Anyway we support our team more in bad days as those 15 are more sad than us.

I won’t deny, this is a different level of hurt. In 2003, when we lost the final, it was very painful but on the inside, we all knew that the best side won. This was a whole different level of pain. To be the best side in the tournament and then to loose in the final is tough to swallow. Credit to Aus. Their big match mentality came to the forefront. They got the better of conditions but you also have to use those conditions properly. Cummins was fantastic, with his tactics and his bowling. He completely tied India down and got the big wicket of Kohli at a crucial juncture, after which India could not recover. The pressure clearly got to players. The way Rahul kept and batted, the way Shami sprayed the ball all over the place initially, the general attitude in the field… it was all very telling of pressure. I do think Rohit overstepped the bound between aggressive and careless, given how many he had already scored in that over, but the fact is tha Iyer, Rahul, SKY, and Jadeja did not carry their weight today. I know Rahul top scored in tough conditions, but he also got out when India needed him to accelerate and play till the end, as the set batsmen. The conditions definitely got better in the 2nd half. There was no help for the spinners and outside of the initial bust by Bumrah and Shami, they never really looked like breaking through.
I feel quite bad for Rohit and Dravid in particular. I guess an ODI trophy was just not on the cards for them. I will say that such conditions were a bit puzzling for the final. It makes the toss advantage very crucial. Kudos to the team and to Rohit, Kohli, Bumrah, and Shami in particular for their consistency. I’m not sure what ODI future lies ahead for the first 2, but I hope to see them back next year, trying to get the T20 WC.

In the opening match against Aus, if Marsh had taken that simple catch of kohli, results were different.
Just winning by large margins doesn't make a perfect team but winning when odds are against you makes perfect team, Aus was already prepared. They previously had won against Afghans from 91-7 and against SA when wickets were losing consecutively.
We all have seen why Argentina won last year WC, they had played penalty shootout two times already before final.
Kohli could have just bashed or cut the ball he got out to buy rather he was still looking to play with soft hands .... And Rahul was too defensive to the point were his innings didn't hold much value in the grand scheme of things .... If the pitch was like the one in SA VS AUS semis then his innings would have made much sense and sky is not an odi batsman or a tough conditions batsmen ..... India stuck with him citing x factor but he had 0 impact this WC ..... Also ur right about pitch not a final worthy pitch and the fact that rohith was willing to bat first means India completely misread the conditions ...... Big risks equals big rewards but India just wanted to play safe and win

💯It was well deserved victory for Aussies . Aussies have champions mindset ,they are far superior then any team in terms of mindset . It doesn't matter if they bat first or second or on what type of pitch they are playing ,they know and find a way to win from somewhere in every situation because they play as per game situation with the right balance of attack and defence as per match situation demand ,that's what we called champions or elite mentality which they have in abundance. Just look at the way they win semi against africa ,they knew they can easily win that game by single and tuk tuk and there is no need to go for big shots and they made sure they won it playing as per game situation .
Look They purely won this world cup on the basis of there champions like mindset which is imbeded in there DNA . They are not timid and stat-based in there approch like our players . Every player in there team first aims and contribute for glory of team first and not for individual landmarks & statpadling like indian players do . Felt bad for Rohit as he played selfless through out the world cup ,but even he should be little more responsible in final considering the nature of wicket & ocassion and should have took team to a decent total by scoring a century which was required . Lastly Ahmedabad stadium don't deserve a final nor there was any need to make a such a big stadium in Ahmedabad which historically has no cricketing culture but due to politics biggest stadium was built there and in the end there is no denying that the pitch made for final was absolutely pathetic irrespective of result and these kind of slow and sluggish pitches not worthy to be prepared for final but then it's same for both teams and Aussies were better team & played better and they won at last . Careless batting by Gill, Iyer, Surya & even Rohit costed us this match these players didn't knew the importance of WC Final & There was no need for Rohit to play that rash shot against Maxwell when he already hitted him 10 runs in 2 balls. We cannot be that much dependent on pitch for swing there should be some plan to break such long partnerships.

Aussies know how to win that game which matters the most. Even with a fairly okish team, they are able to rise to the ocassion, loves challenges thrown at them, keep their heads working throughout, stick to their game plans, keep their temperament and intensity stable. In short, Indians got bogged down by this, had absolutely nervous energies,and lacked intent, and gave up too easily.
As long as our cricketing culture will that be of celebrating individual records, and worshipping heroes out of cricket, we will never win big tournaments.
We can only hope to win the next bilateral T20 series with Aussies. Even if we win 5-0, this wound has only a small hope of healing till the next world cup in 2027. By that time due to audiences' popular demand, and business, anyway ODI cricket will be nearing its extinction.

Rohit role was to play fearless and give a good start. In 10 overs he make it to the 80 something. From that it depends on the other players what they want to to for the team. Compare with the Aussie our indian mainly two players played test match inning. And then gill Iyer Surya these are all ipl c*****. They are good for nothing.

Instead of taking a chance on every ball, he could have set a target of say 1 or 2 boundaries per over. It does not hurt if an opener plays run a ball till 20 odd overs, that too on a slow pitch. Specially after early wicket of Gill, he could have been a little more cautious since he is among the very few in team who have the ability to handle the pressure of a final. If we had more runs on the board and more wickets in hand, it could have been a different story.
