- The Simpsons TV show has a proud history of highly quotable moments, lovable characters, and a disturbing number of documented jaundice cases . However, much like its later seasons, not everything about the iconic yellow family is... good. Take for example the sprawling roster of officially licensed Simpsons video games - let's just say not every Simpsons game can be Hit & Run, okay? This is Every Simpsons Game Ranked From WORST To BEST.

I want Simpsons Hit & Run Remastered. I doubt i'm the only one.
I would totally replay it if it got ported to PS4/PS5. :')
This was like actually a good game not just a good TV show game or whatever u wanna call it
Just wish the original Xbox version was added to backwards compatibility on Xbox One.
And road rage and wrestling! A collection of remasters would be perfect!
i see the comment a lot but i dont see EA doing anything with the simpsons IP other than shitty mobile games till disney (like if they care) wants risk money on game development.
there was going to be a 2nd hit and run game but higher ups at their publisher didn't wanna do it and fox looked elsewhere for the lisence (Ofc EA picked it up and aren't doing anything with it)

The best Simpsons game made SO FAR.

@@magicthegavining Not sure if you missed my reference to the Simpsons Movie or just stating really believe there will never be a better Simpsons game. Either way, aye caramba.
@@professorkittyhawk Me personally, I caught the reference! So whatever happened to the idea of a movie sequel? The movie exceeded all my expectations so I was really looking forward to the follow-up.
@@duranfanvr882 No idea but the movie did exceed my expectations as well. First half felt better than the second but was still a solid movie as while compared to recent seasons. If they were to do another of the same quality and caliber, I'd be there with my Mr. Sparkle shirt on.
@@professorkittyhawk And I'd be wearing my "Champions of winning, superb!" shirt too haha
Something I find that goes very rarely mentioned about Hit & Run is how damn good the soundtrack is. All the tracks were so perfectly composed to match the series' style. Some of my all-time favourite tracks come from that game, especially Lisa's driving music and the Halloween level driving music.

Even though it's one of the hardest missions in the game, I love the song that plays during the "set to kill" mission. It has that nu metal/post grunge vibe
That would be Marc Baril who wrote that score. He was the audio lead and ocmposer on the game.
I'll give Simpsons Wrestling this much: seeing Flanders throw Barney Gumble around would make for an hilarious episode.

The Simpsons Game is the best imo. One of the best games on PS3, and it was hilarious
I agree. This list is pretty much spot on for me apart from I would move The Simpsons game from 4 to 1.
Seriously? I’m thinking about getting it but the actual gameplay looks so clunky and frustrating. Is it actually fun to play tho?
@@zenandtheartofskateboarding Yeah I had it on xbox 360 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Gameplay is not perfect but def wouldn't say its frustrating as its pretty easy going and the humour and references to both Simpsons and retro games is so spot on.
Agree, my all time favourite.
"One of the best games on PS3" oh come on, let's not get carried away now.
The Simpsons game (DS) and hit and run will always have a special place in my heart. Especially the first level of the Simpsons game (DS), it's just so nostalgic.
The fact that the games don’t become ‘good’ until around no.7 is very upsetting and doesn’t do the top 5 justice of how good they really are
I was surprised to see 'Virtual Springfield' ranked at #5.
I worked on that game back in the 90's. All of us at the studio had lots of fun working on it, but many of us were skeptical that it would do well, not actually being a real "game", it's really just an interactive collection of early Simpsons trivia. The studio that developed it for Fox Interactive that I worked for, went out of business shortly before the game was finished.
Maybe we had too much fun making the game.
A little technical trivia... One of the first "cel shaders" was made for that game. We built the entire city of Springfield in 3D Studio version 4, (an ms-dos based application before it became 3DSMAX on windows). Then we pre-rendered segments along every block, up and down every sidewalk, and saved them as gifs. The whole game engine is essentially just many gifs stitched together at intersections.
I spent several hours a day, watching scenes of an episode in order to study the buildings in the city and re-create them in that 3D program. It was tricky, because, being a cartoon, many of the houses and buildings in the tv show do not look completely the same shape from all sides. Thus, are difficult to build in actual 3D. The Simpson house totally did not match up from front and back views, we had to fix that for the game. same for a lot of other buildings.
I miss the 90's....
@@peterbelanger4094 Virtual Springfield probably scored so high because it focused on trying to recreate the Simpsons' world rather than being some random genre game with the Simpsons license slapped on to it.
That was one of the main drawback of 90s license games or even in general today.
Some licenses work very well with some genres such as action movies with FPS for example but too many games became uninspired platform titles that were perhaps okay at the time but no competition to original IP competitors.
Personally I always felt the Simpsons would have worked best as some kind of adventure game, each of the family members have their own little adventure and it all coming together at the end of the game in big finale.
What do you miss about the 90's?
@@peterbelanger4094 wow you worked on this game?? You have no idea how much joy this game brought me. Thank you so much!

Road rage was my jam back in the day. Everything came together to make a game I would spend hours trying to get better and better at. I remember loosing my shit the first time I broke a 30k score. Never had hit and run, so road rage is my fav.
Josh Heckman yes road rage is really good
I played Road Rage on my GameCube as a kid and I didn't have a memory card, so I would literally play the game just to get to the other maps in the game. I loved the downtown map And the map where you had to drive up a woods with hills.

Krustys Fun House is a great game. Controls, visuals, sound and level design are really good. You just have to accept it’s a puzzle game. Shame they couldn’t take this quality and put it into a platformer.
Agree, they were way too hard on it. It's not a masterpiece but saying it's trash is just wrong.
Agreed
I loved Virtual Springfield and I was really hoping it'd be in here - so thanks. Also, this video is the exact right amount of sarcastic.
I will never forget the bit of VS where you click on the bathroom door and Homer sings "I'm singin' in the shower just a-washin' ma butt!" Creased me when I was 11.
15:46 The Bart as a baby minigame in Virtual Bart might be a reference to Lisa's First Word in that scene where Bart was swinging around a clothes line.
Dr Zoidberg is also in The Simpsons game. Also I remember having some kind of Simpsons scene maker for Pc as a kid.

As a kid who'd never played (or probably even heard of at the time) Crazy Taxi, I always loved renting Road Rage from Blockbuster. There was also a story mode that, while I honestly don't remember too much of it, changed up the formula a bit and was a nice change of pace from the arcade mode of just getting the best score.
"The games difficulty spikes are..."
Me: "...spikier than Bart's hair?"
"...spikier than they have any right to be."

Bart's Nightmare is a nostalgic game from my childhood. I remember me and my cousins trying to get as many pages as we could, but we never managed to get more than four. Later, my cousin gifted me his Genesis and the game, so whenever I had free time I would play it, and eventually I was able to get all pages. It's a difficult, but very fun game!
I thought you would mention that Dr. Zoidberg shows up towards the end of the "The Simpsons Game" (#4 on the list).

always a joy to see lists like these. also, coming off of Star Wars day, if you are feeling bold about a big every game list to rival spider-man and batman's list, maybe every Star Wars game ever list? also, i really need to track down Futurama some day because i have heard the game is some glorious fanservice, even if it is a bit rough

Hit and run got too hard, too fast imo
@@RON_FBG The simpsons game got harder as well but not super hard.
Okay, side-by-side comparison time:
Gameplay: SHAR has responsive driving physics, more arcade-like than realistic though I don't think that's a bad thing, and passable platforming considering that it's not principally a platformer. TSG has platforming that's no better than SHAR's, with little else to back it up. SHAR wins.
Level design: SHAR's big open worlds to explore, versus TSG's linear levels with extra invisible walls, TSG just feels like a game where the designers have an idea of exactly what you ought to do and are trying to stop you doing anything else. In addition, TSG's wonky physics means that puzzle solutions that really look like they ought to work don't, often because of those invisible walls. I don't like trying to work out what the devs were thinking when their ideas are so poorly conveyed. SHAR wins and it's not even close.
Story: both are wacky, irreverent slices of Simpsons, they have the sort of plots a Simpsons game should have. This one's a tie.
Humour: this one's mostly a matter of taste, but for me TSG's self-referential humour gets pretty saturated. I particularly get annoyed by the "cliches" which the game points out about how bad it is - a better game could get away with it, but this one is just pointing out its own already-obvious flaws. SHAR's humour is more balanced, there are lots of different types of jokes, rather than a bunch of variations on one theme. I also prefer jokes to be incidental things in levels (eg the random comments by run-over pedestrians in SHAR) rather than drawn-out cutscenes.
Visuals: I've gotta give this to TSG, I do really like its cel-shaded art style and IMO is the game's best attribute. SHAR looks fine for its era, but not especially interesting.
Soundtrack: the biggest landslide for SHAR out of all the categories. I can't even remember any of TSG's music, whereas SHAR's totally slaps. I believe Danny Elfman composed for SHAR but not TSG, and you can tell.
Overall, SHAR wins by four to one, with one tie.
@@alexpotts6520 k
@@alexpotts6520 Yeah theyre all fair points, i just find although i play hit and run more often, I can play through the entirety of TSG more because the missions in hit and run are usually the same thing over and over again in a different context
Glad to see the arcade game in the #2 spot. I remember dropping many a token into that machine as a kid at Chuck E. Cheese. Then seeing it on ps3 was very exciting and nostalgic, but of course, Hit & Run was on a whole other level. Both games definitely earned their place at the top.
I remember playing Road Rage and Crazy Taxi when I was about 8. I never made the connection that they were basically the same game until several years later.
I forgot how much we were supposed to like Bart, he's more a relic of a different time now.
Do the Bartman, if you can-can, dude.
Don't have a cow man
Yeah...I'm glad the franchise has moved away from touting Bart as its headliner character and redistributed the focus across the show's ensemble cast.
@@de132 EAT MY SHORTS
There are certantly a lot of "Bart does whatever" games, aren't they?
But hey, at least most of the following games focus on the family as whole (H&R and TSG being the best examples I can think of)
No Simpsons Cartoon Studio? I'd say that counts if Virtual Springfield does.
My first thought. I remember playing that as a kid making videos I'm sure were garbage lol
It was supposed to be "every simpsons game " after all....
SPAGETT Simpsons cartoon studio is my most favourite.
yup yup yup
Definitely should have been included.

The Simpsons: Virtual Springfield was myyyyy game back in 1997. I played it so much. Then Hit and Run was the only game I owned on the brand new original Xbox for agees too LOL. What a childhood!
I worked on that game. I worked on the 3D models of the building in town that were pre-rendered for all the outside walking. It's nice to know someone really enjoyed it.
Me: The top three should be The Simpsons Game, Arcade Game, and Hit and Run
Me, after the video: I'm still gonna say I called it
its an easy call really, those are the only even halfway decent simpsons games.
Hit and run was amazing
I'm so glad I've nabbed Simpsons arcade game before it was de-listed
The arcade game will always be my favorite. So much button smashing fun back in the day
Same. When I was a kid my mom would play this with me at movie theater, and she doesn't even like video games. Good times.
Well it is kinda equal to Hit and Run
Great list! No one else has ever tackled this huge list of games...
Just as a note: the Simpsons pinball table I'm familiar with, Simpsons Pinball Party by Stern, is actually one of the most well-regarded modern-style pinball tables of all time. Like, it's almost WILDLY deep, hard as nails, and really fun to play, too. It feels a little silly to consider it on the level of Tiger handhelds, as it would probably rank pretty high had y'all included it.
Also, pinball is an understandable exclusion, as real-life pinball tables aren't video games.
Thank you for making this. Right back to my childhood lol. Couldn't remember all the Simpson games i played on my Sega seems like they were the only ones i rented back in the day
Thanks for the video! I really appreciate your work!
I'd love a Hit & Run remake.
I recommend Lego City Undercover to anyone who loves that game.
I could never get into Lego city undercover... Admittedly the dialogue and cut scenes are funny (Like all Lego games), but the gameplay itself is tedious.
@@benpardoe2425 Sad to hear that. The reason behind my comment is that I find the two games to be very similar in many ways. Not just the focus on lighthearted humor, but also similar mission structures, light platforming elements and collecting various stuff.
I’m surprised you didn’t bring up the super meta second half of The Simpson’s Game where you get to save the 8-bit Simpsons family and kill Matt Groening in a boss fight!
It really helped that Virtual Springfield came out around the time of the very best, classic, Simpsons episodes.
The Simpson's hit and tun equals the Simpson's GTA
Here are some “Ranked” lists I want to see in the future:
“Every Disney Game Ranked”
I have a feeling this will end up being longer than the Batman & Console lists.
“Every Marvel Game Ranked”
“Every Castlevania Game Ranked”
“Every James Bond Game Ranked”
“Every Looney Tunes Game Ranked”
It should also include the “Tiny Toons” & “Animaniacs” games as well, since the Looney Tune characters have made appearances / cameos in those shows.
I love that you guys have been making the VOs work from your homes. Well done. :)
Glad to see Virtual Springfield so high, that was a great game. Even if it is more of a tour of Springfield than a game. So many nice nods to different episdoes.
Basically, for a Simpsons experience you only need 2 of these: Hit & Run and The Simpsons Game.
All the side-scrollers feel more like Simpsons-themed games. Whereas these two give you the feeling of inhabiting The Simpsons universe.
True. These two are the only ones that were actually designed to be Simpsons games and really carry the charm and humor of the show - while the other ones are just video games that have the Simpsons as characters.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run was a fun game & They should Remake the game for modern consoles. lol
Lol?
In what universe does Crazy Taxi: Catch a Ride look and play better than The Simpsons Road Rage on GBA?
Simpsons road rage gba was a masterpiece
If anything, the backgrounds scaled far worse in CT than it did Road Rage GBA
I'm kind of surprised to see Simpsons Escape from Camp Deadly so early in this list. It was actually really good for it's time. It was at least better than any of the NES games.
I agree, Camp Deadly is definitely underrated. Yes, it's sometimes very challenging and unforgiving and has a few flaws, but once you get used to it, it's quite fun to play, and the graphics and controls are quite impressive for a 1991 Game Boy title.
I love Simpsons Road Rage. Crazy Taxi clone, sure, but it was a ton of fun. Played it with most of my friends and we all enjoyed it.

The Simpsons Arcade Game has an impressive conversion on the Commodore 64, including pretty much EVERYTHING from the arcade game with some clever work-arounds to make them fit. The graphics may not look like much, but anyone who has ever programmed a C64 game can tell you that it's mind-blowing for what it is.
I found the bowling game in the arcade at my mall, I had no idea this one was actually rare to run into! I didn't know about the frame 10 begging since it was in free play mode.

Zoidberg also appears in The Simpsons Game - the 2nd to last level has Homer and Bart fight Matt Groening, who summons clones of Zoidberg and Bender to attack you during his boss fight.
I had the Atari ST version of Bart vs. The Space Mutants and I quite liked it. The controls were a bit crap but that wasn't unusual at the time. I felt that the difficulty of the game was very fair since almost every time I played it, I got further than the previous time.
I had no idea that there were so many Simpsons games so this was very interesting.
The arcade game cost us a fortune. I remember my step dad at the time trying to impress me and just banging pound after pound into the machine until we completed it!
The Simpsons Game is my favourite with Road Rage and Hit and Run tied for a close second.
I'm working on a review of Hit & Run right now haha
Great list, I agreed with almost everything except I actually did like Krusty's Fun House despite not being as good as Lemmings itself.
Spot on rankings, very good vid. Agree with the top 3 especially exc. Futurama
I actually played and enjoyed 13:09 a lot as a kid. Probably had low standards for games back then, though. But still remember it fondly as a pretty fun game that was weirdly hard from puzzles maybe not being designed all too intelligently.
"This is the best of the Game Boy games."
*Later shows another Game Boy game ranked higher*
I love that I only owned 4 games from this list and 2 of them were the bottom 2 on the list (Road Rage and Hit & Run being the other 2).
FYI, I actually really liked Simpsons Skateboarding. Simpson's wrestling is cult classic, let's be honest.

Big fan for the Futurama inclusion, really fun game. But there is no beating H&R. Completed it 100% last December, and while there were some insane difficulty spikes (Set To Kill) the game as a whole was so much fun to play through.
I have fond memories of spending hours playing Simpsons Hit & Run I wish they would do a remaster

Tbh the only ones I played were The Simpsons Game (DS), and Hit & Run (PS2). I really like both of them and I still have my copy of TSG DS, and I remember quite a bit from it.
Game Over (The last level) was pretty damn hard though, I gotta say.
I remember playing the Simpsons hit and run all the time I loved that game. Thankfully I watched this video before downloading it because I got road rage and hit and run mixed up at first.
Mean Machines Magazine gave Krusty’s FunHouse 90%
Tapped Out?
Hit and Run being at the top certainly not a surprise I don't think. I haven't played much of the Arcade game at number 2, but I think the few times I've been to the arcades it certainly seemed like a good game. Simpsons Road Rage, man my best friend got the game one time and we played it into the ground. I cannot believe how much we played it and I did not even like it. Somehow the game just eventually grew on us and sort of laugh at the idea that we played it as much as we did. We haven't really played it since. I was wanting to pull my hair out at how much we played it(in a day and plus more) considering Metal Gear Solid 2 was the newest game to come out pretty much. Can you imagine we were playing The Simpsons Road Rage over MGS2? My best friend just had to want to play it, because it involved vehicles and it involved The Simpsons. That was pretty much the whole reason behind it. Great times.
We need more list like this
It's a good list.
The only thing I have to say against it is that you called Road Rage a Crazy Taxi clone so many times and yet never even mentioned that Hit and Run is a GTA Clone.
boonski but it’s not. Like at all. Just because you drive around in an open are doesn’t mean it’s a gta clone. There’s platforming, no shooting, no gang wars. Besides driving, it’s nothing similar
How is hit and run a gta clone?
I was thinking you were being cleverer than that when you said "the only Simpsons game to include Dr Zoidberg... almost" since you obviously forgot that later entry, "the Simpsons Game" DOES include Dr Zoidberg at one point. But instead you were referring to the Futurama game which... isn't a Simpsons game. I've heard some duff excuses for plonking something on a list before but that really is the lamest one I've heard in a while. "We couldn't fit it on any other list". Um... so what next? 20 greatest life apple crumbles, 5 of which are actually banana pie recipes, because you don't have a banana pie recipe list to put them on? Come on guys that was ridiculous.
Exactly. These dumb CZcamsrs didn't even play the Simpson game up to the point where you fight Zoidberg and Bender.
