    As a lifelong Bears fan, I gotta say I respect the Packers for not building a dome. It seems like it takes away the personality of a team when they go from outdoors to a dome. Football was meant to be played in the elements. That makes it more unpredictable and exciting. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about the Bears playjng in a dome. Wont be the same😞

    • @TheLochs
      @TheLochs Před 6 měsíci +2

      As a Packers fan I agree 100%. The games that are played in snow, sleet, rain and mud are unpredictable and exciting. I love it. Grass is the way to go and the teams that continue to use grass and have open stadiums are doing the fans and the players a service. We all know what turf does to players.

    The problem is, domes seem to be a trend in the NFL now. The Rams and Chargers play under a dome despite of being in sunny Southern California. The Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders play under domes despite of the fantastic weather they’re based in. Same with the Atlanta Falcons and even the Tennessee Titans are considering a dome stadium and it’s a given that the Chicago Bears will be building a dome stadium. I personally hate domed stadiums as teams lose their identity when they play in domed stadiums. But the reality of the matter is that money is the driving force here. Football can be played in all elements but warm, dry weather is needed for Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber concerts and when these concerts are cancelled or not scheduled due to weather, that much needed revenue falls by the wayside.

      In mid-September it regularly hits 95 in Vegas and 98 in Phoenix. And tapers off in the 80s for weeks, in Phoenix's case highs in the 70's usually won't come until November. And the Florida stadiums happened to be built pre-00's dome boom but Miami was retrofitted with a canopy and Jacksonville is fixing to conopy-ize their stadium. I know I'd rather see a game in Lambeau or Buffalo in January than Tampa in September. Though now with these stadium costs outpacing inflation we may have reached peak dome in the NFL with the less expensive canopies seeming to be the next trend.

    If every team ends up playing in a dome, all NFL games are going to look the same. Which makes the game less dynamic. Before domes, all teams knew that Winter is Coming. And that the high octane pass heavy offenses were going to need to either be perfect or have a backup plan. The cold and the wind had a way of serving humble pie if they didnt.

    This is the best stadium and organization in the NFL. A little over 20 years ago without being a Packers fan I decided to drive up to the playoff game against the Seahawks knowing I could only tailgate and get a tour of the stadium. Was the eighties proposed stadium similar to the Metrodome and Silverdome where as opposed to a fixed structure, the roof was made of fabric inflated by an air support system?

    I think it’s more than just team identity. There is a true home field advantage when a warm weather team comes to town late in the year. Or a dome team. There’s a physiological advantage to being conditioned to cold. Ask Wim Hof. It’s why Bud Grant didn’t allow warmers on the Vikings sidelines. Part of that advantage has already been mitigated with the under-field snow melting system at Lambeau.

    As Society gets softer and softer and softer it wouldn't surprise me if 100 years from now there's a roof over Lambeau. It actually wouldn't be that hard either based on the stadiums current design. I would personally hate it because football should be played outside but like I said. As people get softer and the NFL gets more about luxuries and money. It wouldn't surprise me. I'm being sarcastic here.. The league will probably come up with some stupid requirement, in lets say, 2045 for teams to have roofs by 2052 or face the threat of relocation or fines. I know the Packers can't be relocated but the league could attempt to abandon them. The league would attempt to sue every single Packer shareholder and put extensive pressure on them. It would be tied up in the court system for years but with how wealthy the NFL is vs the Packers shareholders. Either give up your stock or be fined more money than what you have for not agreeing to put a roof on the stadium. Instead of trying to move the Pack, the NFL could just collude with all the franchises in the league and just not play there until they get a roof on Lambeau. Like I said, my imagination is running amuck here and I'm just being sarcastic about how horribly greedy and vain the NFL as a whole is.
