  • This rare television program was based on the famous Philips H. Lord radio program of the same title which aired from 1939 to 1952. This TV version was not as successful, lasting only a few shows in syndication. Mr. District Attorney was similar in script and content to Gang Busters and of course, that program was created for radio and then television by Philips H. Lord. Radio programs are available from myradioclassics.com. Four episodes of Mr. District Attorney are available from My Video Classics. myvideoclassics.com.

The program played when the LA City Hall was, basically, the Los Angeles “skyline”

2:08--Joe Besser, just a few years before he replaced the departed Shemp Howard as the third of the "Three Stooges" at Columbia Pictures, alongside Larry and Moe.

Joe Besser! From Stinky to Stooge! Anybody who breaks big-time alongside Abbot & Costello, then joins the 3 Stooges is somebody worth watching - even if he only served as Third Stooge for 2 years! (And esp since he left the troupe to take care of his ailing wife.)

Mister District Attorney was a surprisingly successful multimedia franchise for years. This show didn't last very long, but between books, radio shows, comics and some magazine shorts the character was all over the place at one point. Have a very beat up copy of a 1950s comic in hand that I rescued from a Good Will bin. It's kind of adorably quaint.

Dave Brian who played the DA had a co-starring role in an important and excellent 1950 film Intruder in the Dust based on William Faulkner's 1949 novel. See it for free on "ok.ru" complete 87 minute film,
The witness Cogan was played by Joe Besser who played the child-like Stinky in Abbott and Costello's 1952 TV show and later played one of The Three Stooges from 1957-59

Yes indeed ! I always liked David Brian. Nice to see him play a good guy for a change ! He played a lot of villians & nogoodniks on TV & in films during his long career.

He looks like Stodge Joe , 54 just before shemp `s passing . The driver was Myron Heally driving a stock 54 Ford . Hopped up ? Human life wasn`t as cheap in 54 . Today the police wouldn't waste their time on this case .

Joe Besser, played the maintenance man on the Joey Bishop show. Also with the three stooges for a shot while after Shemp.
