A 10 gallon gas tank at one point cost $19.00 to fill lasted all week . Ran up and down the New Jersey turnpike at 70 to 85 mph for hours with ease. Fair warning though if something happens to the alternator bracket and it breaks off of the motor there's no way to replace it other than to replace the block. People always complained about these cars not being fancy, and they didn't have enough tech, but that wasn't the point of them. The point of them was to have a cheap, reliable cars for the small family. And boy did Saturn succeed!!! There was also a lot of American pride in these cars because they were not only designed from the ground up, but they were built here in the U.S. It was one of those companies that brought U.S pride to anyone who bought one. These cars were always underrated and misunderstood. Not only did they always start on first turn of the key, but they also handled very well in the snow and rough conditions. Saturn was ahead of its time. Sadly GM completely took Saturn over and just re-badged crappy gm platforms before the brand ended. So we can thank GM for getting rid of one of the most reliable and well thought out cars ever...
But whenever i see an original one on the road i can't help but smile a little knowing that, that American built car is years old and still running while brand new cars are dropping like flies.

In regard to the hood, you can actually buy the carbon fiber one from Seibon and they still sell it for that car. Also ud be correct about the wrong trans, you would have faster acceleration but less top end in the SL1trans with SL2 head, etc and got a full engine rebuild and 10 to 1 high compression build with cramk knife edging, low boost E85 with a head from R.A.C.E. for my port and polish and mild deshrouing, ARP main and head studs, etc, stiffer springs, lower, 1.6 inches and polyurethane bushing master set on the car

I may buy a 1993 Saturn sc2 for 1600$ and this video definitely made me excited about the car I was worried about the price cuz to me this car looks really nice so I thought it would be more pleasantly surprised to know it’s a good beginner car as it’s my first car

The Saturn Automatic transmissions have a problem with a bold that likes to come loose. It causes it to shift funny. It wont damage the transmission if you get to it fast enough.

I appreciate this video...I really do, that being said please keep Saturn's under the radar. They're cheap now because they're already hard to find parts for, etc. That being said they're amazing point a to point b runarounds that you can have a bit of sneaky fun in. Don't blow the market wide open on us less fortunate folk who just need a solid commuter car...

Sold my 95 Sentra for 500$ and the lady drove it for 5 years with no problems at all, oil changes and gas. Those 500$ beaters with a heater sometimes are the best cars. She crashed during a snow storm and the car was totaled but still a great car.

  • @Ebbsilen

I still have my 95 SL2. Best car i ever owned, and i owned like more than 30. If someone is not caring about the looks and the interior's quality, those cars have no negative sides, i would say!

These are 4AT. My sisters 1998 SL2 will shift hard when it’s time for a fluid and filter service when you change the fluid and filter it shifts smooth again. Hers had right at 200,000 miles I think. I have 2 ions and the ions were supposed to be sportier than the S-Series. The S-Series has independent front and rear suspension and the ion had independent front and semi independent torsion bar rear suspension

I had a new 2002 SL2 and got 245k miles before I sold it for $500 cuz the transmission was going out. That car had been beat to hell, overheated multiple times, ran on barely any oil several times (wife was driving it, I had no idea) but it kept driving strong.

They're fantastic on gas. I had a 96 SC2 that I regularly got 40mpg with. Should have kept it. Got a 97 SL2 now. Have had over a dozen S series. Back 10 years ago you could pick these up a dime a dozen for under 500. Great flip cars. Tastes have changed though.

@@justink4892 Mine is going on year 2 at almost 200K miles. I'ma just build it a custom engine before it dies, and make it into a mid HP, low weight, but insane eco tune. I might go all out just to make something weird.

if you could find a junked one in the same color and swap the parts out itd be nice. I love them with a 5speed swap and lowered on nice wheels. A friend of mine had a wagon and sold me on how cool and fun it was. Great gas mileage, reliable, and cheap parts.

I still think they are attractive. I like this first generation S series. They share a similar look to the Olds Cutlass Supreme of the same era. Those little Saturns were quite popular and they even had events where you brought the car back to the factory for a "homecoming" They were good cars.
