Great video Matt! Really enjoyed doing the collab with you! It was brilliant to see what two makers made from the same brief! Hopefully we can do it again in the future!
Nice box. If you want to ebonies oak you should try vinegar. You put some rusty nails or wire wool in it. I know sounds mad.. But it works. It has a reaction with the tannin in the oak. Paint it on and watch as the oak turns black. It works on other woods but depending on the tannin content or the wood. Beech for instance will go a darker brown. Cheers Dave
The small box challenge is a great idea. Very interesting to see the different approaches that you and Sean took. Both are good. I like the use of the brass pins to form a hinge and the contrast in finish between the body of the box and the lid.
A super box; the contrasting wood colours and the little flash of brass really look great together. The lid decoration is very interesting. I think I'll be including this technique in my next build some how. Thanks for sharing the build. Best wishes to you.
Nice build! Got a suggestion for a project - how about a swing-out stool for the workshop? I do miss your comfy chair by the fire, and I know you would build something interesting, elegant, and perhaps a bit melancholy. Finished in danish oil?
Beautiful box. Thanks for sharing the video how you made it. I need something like this already for three hundred years or so. And already three years I'm saying that I really need to make some small boxes. Of course, they haven't been made till now. Maybe this video made by you pushes me to make one, finally.
Nice work Matt, I wouldn’t have thought about texturing the lid like that but I really like it. Guess that’s you thinking outside the box again. (Sorry. Bad pun. 😆)
Looking good, have you experimented with thinning down the india ink with something to give a paler finish and show more of the grain of the wood through it?
Brilliant Matt a bit of EDC magic. I've been trying to design a box I can carry my EDC in but can't find the right materials... I guess that is why they invented ths bag!
Like the box but not a fan of the India Ink as I love oak and like to see the grain pop through. If I was going to use the ink I would have used a cheaper wood or I would have used an Osmo colour finish as it lets the grain show. However this is your box and your design, well done and thanks for sharing might have a go with my box joint jig.
Very good video as usual, what a surprise you used the black ink and Danish oil! How about making smaller fingers on your corner joints, then the box could have been shallower.
Very nice looking box but have to agree it looks a bit deep for a edc box! Sure you will find something else to go in it and then you get to build another one :)
Fantastic looking EDC box, mate. 👍🏽 The Oak on the black is a nice contrast. 👌🏽 Ever thought about the kerf of your saw blade as the thickness for the finger joints?
@@Badgerworkshop Absolutely without a doubt quicker. I thought in keeping with the finger joints because they are quite strong, and considering your jig cuts fingers larger than you wanted, that perhaps the table saw might be an option. May take a bit longer, but the results are worth it, i think.
A hinged lid box V a turned shallow-box pot... I declare it a draw, both great little projects, both decorative & functional - good healthy competition!
Stunning bit of work Matt 👍
I came over from Sean’s channel and was pleasantly surprised when you weren’t turning a box. Great job, love the scalloping. Cheers, Sean
Nice build love the box 📦 nice work
Thank you very much

Thank you. I was lots of fun to do
Pretty little box !!! Cute !!!!!

Nice! Like the two tone finish. Perhaps instead of shorter side walls, shorter internal dividers would help make the contents more “grabable.”
Thank you
Nice job looks great thanks for sharing 🍺🍺👍👍👍

Thank you. I did build a stool for the workshop a few months back
Looks great Matt, awesome work! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred

Thank you
Nice looking box, well worth a thumbs up
Thank you very much
A real Matt-in-the-box👍👍👍
Thanks Josh

Haha thank you
Like the box style nit sure I would have used the ink myself but it still looks good
Thank you
Looking good, have you experimented with thinning down the india ink with something to give a paler finish and show more of the grain of the wood through it?
Thank you. I have not tried that
Jack I’d love to hear a bit more about that

Nice box! The India ink seems to be becoming one of your signature finishes (and Danish oil of course). It does look really good.
Thank you Alan
Very good video as usual, what a surprise you used the black ink and Danish oil! How about making smaller fingers on your corner joints, then the box could have been shallower.
My jig only cuts one size.
Nice box , I also see some table saw upgrades.
Thank you. Yes i have added some bits
I thought when you emptied your pockets, you was going to throw a grinder, King size rolling papers etc in the box ...... my bad 😂😂😂
Nice box Matt. How do you stop your glasses steaming up with the dust mask? Driving me nuts.
Thank you. I have never had a problem. I use the JSP mask
Great looking edc box! Wil you do a video on the table saw changes?
Thank you. No video on it. There is not much to show
Très joli travail bravo à bientôt salut Jeannot 🛠😉
Thank you
Very nice looking box but have to agree it looks a bit deep for a edc box! Sure you will find something else to go in it and then you get to build another one :)
Thank you
That’s cool mate but why don’t you throw a challenge out ?, you’ve got enough subs to make it a great initiative 🍻👍👍👍
Thank you. Thats a good idea, maybe we will do another one
Badger Workshop ok I’ll hold you to it mate 👍👍👍🤠
Danish oil! Reliable Matt. Great looking box, I like the finish on the lid. Would you consider a scrub plane for a textured finish?
I have a scrub plane but it would be far too bit for a little box.
Fantastic looking EDC box, mate. 👍🏽
The Oak on the black is a nice contrast. 👌🏽
Ever thought about the kerf of your saw blade as the thickness for the finger joints?
Thanks Bill. I used to use the table saw but the router jig is so quick
@@Badgerworkshop

Maybe if i ever make anything that shallow again

Did you hit a nail when cutting the lid on the mitre saw?
No nails
@@Badgerworkshop what caused the spark during the cut?
I think you might need a new pencil soon
I am not made of money
@@Badgerworkshop I get you some nice ikea pencil 😉
Deffo had the money's worth out of that 1 😅
Looks great Matt!!
India ink eh 😅 did u just have it lying around the shop perhaps...begins your brass stash... just kidding I do love your style 😊
*behind
I have been using a lot of it
5:00 found a nail.
where is your riving knife, tsk tsk.
it does not work with the 5mm grooving blade
Love it Matt great job buddy I sent you an email earlier check it out and let me know your thoughts 👍
