    Don’t need to boil the wax - actually quite dangerous to do as wax at a high enough temperature is flammable!! You just have to melt it!!!

    For those interested, the disc version of the Scope wheels (both the R4 and the R5) have no maximum load limit. Lovely wheels, beautiful decals (less so the plain ones than the gradient colours).
    I've always been a big Mavic, LightWeight and Zipp fan, but given My weight, My imminent wheel purchase choices are limited to the Spinergy (also beautiful wheels), Scope (R5, most likely) and BontRager Aeolus (which I find a bit less arresting, although still quite handsome). And maybe a Duke Boccara or similar laced with a SON or Shutter Precision centrelock dynamo hub with Sapim X-Ray or similar spokes. I wish, rim / wheel manufacturers kept making patterned carbon wheels: unidirectional carbon looks a bit boring in comparison.

    As mentioned by others, be careful as hot wax is really flammable. I used UFO drip from Ceramic Speed but eventually settled on Squirt lube as it does the same job for my needs (11k/year mostly commuting) and cost a fraction of the UFO. The Dutch winter is ruthless to the drive train but waxing in any form is the way to go. Some people who go through the hard route as you prefer MotlenWax brand. If I’m not mistaken the wax is only good up to 300km which is a week for me hence Squirt lube as it’s more practical then having several chains waxed.

    • @Fernwee
      @Fernwee  Před 5 lety

      Interesting stuff! I’ll take a look at the squirt lube. But also I’m 100% sure this parafin wax will last for more than 300k, it lasted a few months for me last year.

    • @JV-le6zk
      @JV-le6zk Před 5 lety

      Fernwee I’m very interested to hear from you how it fairs. I live in Haarlem (but originally from Slovakia) and I mainly commute to/from work (as said some 11.000km/year). I switched to wax because the performance is good and maintenance or on the road repairs are a breeze (and no oily hands). There are many videos on the wax topic and the purists do it as you did by dunking the whole chain. One guy (Ronald Kuba - his videos should come up when you search for the wax) has several chains and waxes them in one go and then just swaps them out when the wax wears out. I bike every day here (in this beautiful country of yours) with the horizontal rain, sand and gale force winds and I get about 160-200km out of one squirt lube treatment (which is applied as oil so more convenient). I think Ronald gets about 300-600km out of the molten wax stuff. Either way, welcome to the wax club and many safe kilometers.

    Best way is not have any water on the chain. If it make sound when you lower it on hot parafin thats water reacting. Only issue with that is that parafin go bad faster and when you reheat it will splach more and make a mess (Angry Wife). Allso it is easyer to catch fire.😬 chain>wash>towel>owen>wax

      @Fernwee  Před 5 lety

      Yeah, nice things rarely come cheap 🤦🏼‍♂️

  • @pellin-unleashthebiker3101

    You should really look into squirt lube to rewax your chains half an hour before every ride our after cleaning your bike. Deep-waxing is done in the factory already and only lasts for some rides if you do not use something like squirt, so doing the wax bath all the time on a training bike would be much to time consuming. Also don't cook your wax on a regular stove, use a slow cooker to melt it.

    • @albr4
      @albr4 Před 5 lety +1

      full waxing your chain like this is only really useful for time trialists, I just use dry wax lube and it works pretty much the same

    • @pellin-unleashthebiker3101
      @pellin-unleashthebiker3101 Před 5 lety

      @@albr4 indeed, the lube will fill the rollers and get hard, so if done regularly (I try to do it after Evere ride) it is the best way to maintain your chain. With very wet weather and snow, I still combine this with regular wet lube on my mountainbike.

    Checking out the Izalco Max since seeing it on your channel. Couldn’t afford your model without selling a kidney but I’m considering the 8.8 despite the boring paint job (black). Question is, do you know if the bars and stem can be upgraded on the 8.8 to match the hidden cable system on yours?

      And I don't know if they can be upgraded, Focus usually isn't big on selling their custom parts separate from the bikes I think, maybe good to shoot them an email?

      Tubeless is the way to go! Die Scope wielen werden geleverd met een tubelessventiel reeds gemonteerd dus waarom zou je binnenbanden ( met een te lang ventiel ) gebruiken?? Zelfs Continental is uiteindelijk tot dit inzicht gekomen. Ik gebruik zelf 25 mm Schwalbes met +/- 5 bar voor een gewicht van 80 kg. Lage rolweerstand, veel comfort en nog meer grip in bochten met slecht wegdek.
