      Given Saban’s age, it's understandable that he retired. A lot of people are concerned about how the focus has shifted solely to money with minimal regulations nowadays. I strongly believe that college players should be required to sign contracts with buyout clauses, similar to coaches and professional players. Apart from that, I'm supportive of them receiving compensation. Nevertheless, my opinion holds little weight; the landscape of the game has transformed, and we must accept it for what it is. While Dabo Swinney is still relatively young for a coach, if he's unwilling to adapt to these changes, regardless of his personal feelings, retirement might be the best option for him.

    Josh Pate’s breakdown of everything Dabo actually said is worth watching. He said there were 3 types of players in the portal: ones not good enough to play at Clemson (majority), those who are in the portal as a formality (already made a deal with another team) and those who are looking to see how much they can get paid. Dabo is too stubborn about the portal for sure, but coaches who think the portal and NIL are the demise of college football need to realize that where we are now actually started when elite programs began paying their coaches a million dollars a month. College football is now semi pro football. You don’t have to like it, but if you’re going to have a competitive program, which is what fans pay thousands of dollars in donations, tickets and parking for, you’re going to have to embrace and use the new system.

    • @brookico
      @brookico Před 13 dny +1

      @@tomdemay6147 The issue lies in the difficulty of investing in any player nowadays, as there's a high probability they'll be lured away by another team offering more NIL money the following year. While I support players being compensated, I believe there should be contracts in place similar to the professional leagues. Head coaches, for instance, sign contracts and are obligated to pay back money if they depart before the contract ends. NFL players also adhere to contracts. It seems only logical that college players should do the same. The only exception could be if they haven't played beyond a certain threshold during the season, allowing them to leave for another team without penalty. This would ensure fairness and reduce the prevalence of team-hopping every season. What frustrates me the most is investing in a player only to see them switch teams the next year. The days of rooting for individual players seem to be fading. I do agree, that while acquiring talent is essential, winning championships requires more than just buying players. Otherwise, Texas A&M would have secured a championship by now. If Ohio State fails to clinch one this year despite their hefty investments in players, it's doubtful Ryan Day will ever achieve it.

Winning 8 Conference champions, 6 playoff appearances, 2 National Championships qualifies his opinion on winning College Football games better than “MattBeGreat”. This “Fool” was a walk-on at Alabama (on a NC team), then he was out of the game only to come back and be a position coach for a Bowden. After, the HC leaves “The Fool” takes an average team and grows them into something great. @@emtac1937 Yes, Clemson has went down the last few years. They're not the same team that won 2 Natty's. With that being said. I'm all for these kids getting some money. I'm also for repercussions for this. I believe with athlete's being paid they should be considered paid employees by the university. So if they're not living up to the money their making. They should be fired from the team. Right now, these kids are getting their cake and everyone else's too. If you want to play adult games, then they should be treated like all the rest of us. College football was a great sport for many many years. Kids played for the love of the game, the university or the coach. And some still do. But now it's more about the money. I've also heard so many people say. The coaches can leave at any time and take another job, so the players should to. My argument to that: Your most successful coaches don't leave or jump from school to school. Look at Saban, Dabo, etc etc. Coaches that jump from job to job have a track record of doing that. So that should have an impact on where a kid signs. They should think about, whether or not the coach will stay. When I made the comment about losing viewers. They absolutely will, if it comes down to 2 Super Conferences. People like the rivalry games, they love the regional matchups. And if that gets lost, people will quit watching. And it's heading in that direction. Thanks to FOX and ESPN. But like you said. I respect your opinion and everyone else's.

    Dabo is 100% correct. If you won’t tamper to get players to use portal to come to your team and you don’t use NIL $ to buy players, you are left with just a handful that are good enough to play for you and those that are you need one to fit right and then they have to choose your program. So far only 2 or 3 were a fit and were offered but they chose other venues.
    Keep in mind, Clemson with no transfers had a transfer-laden FSU team beat last year if not for a missed field goal in regulation.

Coaching changes and yes a hiring mistake that I’m okay with (Streeter and Austin) because they were Clemson alums. If you’re gonna misinterpret what coaches like Dabo say, you’re going to lose your audience because they’ll stop trusting you. I’m certainly not a Clemson fan, but coach Dabo did say “most“, he didn’t say all of the players in the portal aren’t good enough, he said “most “. He couldn’t say that if he didn’t at least look. Something people forget about the portal players is that teams also pay a price when they are bringing in “mercenaries“. Clemson is a university that’s believed to be more close knit. Perhaps Dabo thinks the trade-off of losing the family aspect for the team by bringing in a “hired gun“ isn’t worth the trade off. Especially if he thinks the players that could actually help him, Clemson doesn’t have a shot at. Could he be wrong? Certainly, but he could also be right. He’s the one with his job at risk if he’s wrong.

  • @timmyteaching
    @timmyteaching Před 13 dny

    Sounds like he thinks portal use signals weakness. Maybe it would if you're strip-mining 9 or 10 players, but if you're just out picking off the elite one or two that fill out your needs, what the hell is wrong with that. Dabo meet dustbin meet history.
