Hey Dennis, just viewed this video and wanted to add what I have experienced with my oil cooler/carb heat line. My oil cooler line had a small leak and I had Scott send me the tubing to make a new one. I was able to add an additional 4 complete turns around my Y tube intake. My oil temp dropped almost 12 degrees with the additional turns/wraps. Stock had 12 and now has 16 turns. My temps now are at 188 degrees on a 90 degree day. According to the engine/spec info, 230 is max temp. That said, maybe re-wrapping your Y-Tube adding additional wraps/turns will help lower your temps. Best, Steve Thomas, VA Beach, VA
Hi Steven Thomas wow thank you sir for that information!! If I end up getting a leak in my tubing or just decide I want to try that....I will know. Thank you and God bless you
So simple yet ingenious. Using the coils to not only cool the oil but the heat transfer to heat the carburetor. Aluminum can definitely be a little tougher to weld than steel , ask me how I know 😆 That is one beautiful and amazing little aircraft for sure. Thanks for sharing this with us all brother.
Hi Kevin Collins yes sir I thought that was pretty clever myself. Thank you so much for your kind words. You know you too could build one and have fun too...
Thanks for the engine video was looking forward to it, always something to learn. I have a 1500cc Vdub motor with prop but not set up yet to go on ultralight, still have 2pot2stroke Jap job on it some kind of motor used in snowmobiles, Cheers from South Australia
Hi Rosslyn Flint thank you sir! I did not know I was going to do a video on my half VW. A subscriber ask about it and I was at the airport so why not. The 1500cc engine you talked about must be a 4 cylinder? And you said you were going to put it on a ultralight airplane? Your ultralight weight down under must be more than 254 pounds? Good luck with all you do down under and God bless you
A 94mm bore x 86mm stroke is just shy of 1200cc (1,194 cc / 72.83 cu. In.), the stock VW dual-port 4-cylinder is 85.5mm x 69mm for 1,584cc and "60 horsepower". Many, many years of working on VW/Porsche engines and lots of aftermarket parts are available for them. I posted a comment about my opinion of "airborne VW powerplants" but pulled it down; a local KR-2 incident coupled with the Oshkosh Sonex/VW incident in 2015 put a damper on my hopes of using VW power. So it goes. God bless and thank you Dennis for the quick video of your 2-cylinder wonder!
Why did you add the old cooler? How hot was the oil temp before and after the upgrade? What is the ambient air temp you fly at? I just got my 37hp for the UltraCruiser, just wondering if I'll have similar issues
Hi Brandon Nonya I added the other oil cooler sir because I wanted to get my oil temperature down more. Yes the outside air temperature has a lot to do with it. Also on a new engine braking inn makes the engine run hotter...
HI SIR IS THIS HALF BREED 4 STROKE AND HOW MUCH HORSE POWER? VERY NICE BUILD SIR THANK YOU FOR SHOWING GOD BLESS YOU FROM SOUTH AFRICA WHERE HE LIONS AND ZEBRAS RUN. MAY YOU FLY VERY LONG SAFE HOURS ENJOY WHERE THE EAGLES FLY. THIS IS MY DREAM TO TO BUILD MY OWN LEGAL EAGLE XL.
Hi Johan Helberg Longbows well sir it is a 1/2 VW engine that has 45hp. I have a friend from South Africa that I sent your message to. I figured he would like it. He also watched me on CZcams when he was in SA. God bless you sir with your build
Hi, Nice engine! Could you tell me how the valvle with the clear hose works? what components it has in it? I am preparing a Citroen 3CV engine. Thanks!
Hi Ronald Caldwell well sir that is a very good question! Of one I really do not have a definite answer for. I would have to assume that they do. With thousands of hours on them running .....
Hi Niro sir if you call Hummel Engines and ask Scott for my number that way we can talk. Look forward to talking to you. If I do not answer please leave voice mail....
