    Semicolons are often used to link related independent clauses and to separate items in complex lists. Colons commonly introduce lists, explanations, or examples.
    The video provides numerous examples for each use, helping you grasp these concepts with ease. We also compare semicolons and colons, highlighting their differences and similarities.
    The lesson ends with a quiz that allows you to test your knowledge and understanding. You need to add colons or semicolons to 10 sentences. I will provide the answers at the end of the quiz.
    Semicolon Examples:
    • She loves reading books; he loves watching movies.
    • We went to Rome, Italy; Berlin, Germany; and Dublin, Ireland.
    Colon Examples:

    I never capitalize after a colon unless it's a proper noun, day of the week, month, name of an important place, etc.

    Thanks teacher! I enjoy these types of lessons. Question, under the colon section, can you not use a comma or em dash for the explanation example? Or does it depend on style as you mentioned regarding styles?

    • @SparkleEnglish
      @SparkleEnglish  Před rokem +1

      You are correct. It varies depending on the style guide, but those can also be used in many cases. The most important thing is to be consistent!

    Sometimes I get confused about why we use a comma before INCLUDING and WHICH. I try to search for more information about this topic, but it doesn't satisfy me.
    If possible, make one video about the use of comma in-depth.

    For number ten I placed the semicolons in the right spot, but I placed a colon in front of the word including. I got that one wrong
