I found the handle to feel surprisingly solid with a nice texture. Not so cheap as others have claimed. For the price , I think it’s definitely the knife to beat.
I’m definitely getting one soon. I had one years back when they were still 154cm. Gave it away within a month of having it but gave it to good friend. Those polymer handles can take way more of a beating than people think. Such good knives at cutting as well those things are beast. For the price they’re hard to beat.
Just got mine today, a 551 sv30 Griptilian. I love it! I use a Kershaw 1670 blur for EDC but I have a feeling the benchmade will be replacing it soon. That sv30 steel though, wow!
A year later how's it holding up?

Personally like the griptilian over the pm2. The pm2's handle curves ruin the knife for me but it makes the knife for others. I much prefer the ergos on the griptilian over the pm2 and I love Benchmade's warranty. I've carried my orange 154cm grip for a few years now and love it.

I’ve asked on a few different night videos so far I have the 551 Mel Pardue grip Tilian. I got it as a Christmas gift and have been extremely careful only cut in little pieces of paper and such the first couple months. The other day at work I decided to cut a piece of 4 inch long by 3/16 of an inch thick heat shrink rubber on an industrial hose at work. It did cut through it but seemed like it took a bit too long. Didn’t think too much more at the time but that evening I tried to open a salad bag and it wouldn’t even cut through the basic plastic and ripped the bag. It now won’t even cut through a basic piece of paper. Obviously I have a heat treat failure yes?
Sounds like it just needs sharpening. Paper is actually pretty abrasive over time, and the tubing may have been the thing that finished the job of dulling the blade.
KnifeCenter have you seen this video? Mine had seriously taken 1/80 of this abuse and is dull as fuck. I own long swords and am familiar with metal it has to be defective heat treat bar none. Honestly I opened maybe 7 to 8 letters worth of paper LOL before I cut that one piece of rubber and it was dull as a blunt blade

I d'like to see 20 CV blade and G10 black handle in mini griptlian, clamp same color of blade, it's look balance more.
Kind of made me miss my grip! Haven't had one for a few years. What steel did they use on these previously? For some reason I already thought BM made the blades from s30v but now I'm not so sure lol.
Oh wait.. Now I'm thinking they used to be 154cm.. Hell idk, I'm sure someone will clarify 😅

U can custom order the griptilian from benchmade and choose your blade steel, style, and color. Same with the handles
The standard production version was previously in 154cm

Usually, but-
*Changes balance point cuz is usually heavier.
*Are you really going to put ur knife thru that kind of workout(?), or do you just dislike the look, feel, and/or the sound of GFN, FRN, Grivory, Vallox, ect.? All of which are actually valid reasons to upgrade so.... maybe there's ur answer.
*Benchmade is an aspiration brand so if it's worth it to you... it's worth it. If u r gonna wish u had upgraded... better go ahead and do it. Even if it means buying just 1 now, instead of 2. Every 1 you add to ur collection expands your experience and preferences.
*Find a dealer and touch some. That'll fix you up. You're trying to make educated guesses til then.🤸♂️ Good luck!

@@tr3prom Welcome! I had just labored thru driving all over to "touch" all the components in an attempt to submit an order to their custom shop. Grip material, grade of steel, blade length and style, on & on. It all came back to questions about me. I mean, I wasn't gonna buy an ugly knife BUT-
G10 seems a very expensive option for a purely aesthetic choice unless you REALLY hate high plastics and aluminum. Blade steel choice seems more about you- your use (type&frequency), do you sharpen your own, & do you live in Oregon? (Shipping them home insured can get expensive from east coast) Once you get above CPM154 the balance starts to shift hard for me: Edge lasts way longer on S90V, but I could sharpen a balloon easier and replace it cheaper if I mess up.

You're probably thinking of the other griptilian with the 20cv steel, and g10 flow thru handles. This is a steel upgrade to the old frn handled model.

@@zacpdxWhere did you see that? I can't find one like that. I googled, (this video is the top result) went on Benchmade's site, no mention of g10 handles on these. I clicked on several of the s30v griptilians on both knifecenter and blade hq and they all say "Nortyl GTX" and look just like my mini grip from 2015, as does the one in the close up in the video. Actually he didn't forget to mention handle materials, at 1:38 he says it's not G10.
@@joshstarkey8883 I may be wrong about G10, but as far as i read it is a different handle material. Definitely feels different and seems lighter as well. Email Benchmade and ask
