    I love mine. Been carrying 6 or 7 years. I have the post instead of thumbhole, I'm missing a little over half my thumb on my dominant hand from an accident (also first digit of my middle and half of my ring finger) and it's easy for me to open because I don't have to overextend my thumb (nub). I can still open it and close it slowly one handed without having to flick it. I love that I can use it in both hands, the clip can be reversed etc.
    I have never owned a Griptillian but I love the weight of my mini, I'm way more likely to actually carry a knife that doesn't weigh me down or is bulky. I also love that even in NY state (which has questionable knife laws, though they at least cleared up the "gravity knife" thing) I don't really have to worry about legality much.
    Mine actually saved my ass one time, I got jumped in a dangerous neighborhood (just a bunch of kids, about 5 16-20 year olds) who were walking along next to me and talking to me and the moment I looked away one sucker punched me in the jaw. I started to go down but caught myself and pulled my knife out while doing this embarrassing little skip thing backwards (maybe it made me look like a boxer, doubt it though 😆 - I just got punched and was trying not to get on the ground for them to give me a kicking and take my money). They backed off after they saw the knife in my hand but followed me a bit, I got around a corner where they couldn't see me book it out of there before they could call a car full of their friends 😂
    But even with my bad hand and my head all fucked up I was able to pull it out, open it and defend myself without dropping it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I just got into Benchmade this year. My first is a standard Mini Grip. I love it. Also recently bought an aluminum handled 945. I normally like bigger knives but I love my mini Benchmades. I can fit all four fingers on the grips of both. Great edc blades.

  • @PittRules55
    @PittRules55 Před 4 lety +8

    I have several Benchmades over 5 years old and I’ve never had problems with omega springs. I’ve found that depressing the axis lock with two fingers so the pressure is distributed evenly and not put on one side extends the life of the spring immensely.

    I never noticed it was off center, now that you mentioned it I did take it apart. Sanded a burr off one of the washers and put it back together, all good now. My wife also has the pink d2 version and she loves them both.

    Off centering that can't be fixed by adjusting screws needs more thickness behind the washers. I cut out washers from a plastic container (it happened to be .013" thick, put them on both sides, and problem fixed. It doesn't take too much to correct the centering. This is also how you correct the centering on an integral without drilling.

    I've just bought the base model, s30v with frn handles. It's absolutely fine. I got it on Amazon Spain as a flash offer. I never really wanted one (I have the Bugout and the Spyderco Chaparral) but I am pleasantly surprised. It's a deft in and out of the pocket EDC.
    My little tuppence to the chat is that the base model is dead on. I wouldn't punt up for the "improved" model. I have the Sheepsfoot blade which I also recommend.

    Got the yellow polymer Mini-Grip. Action is stellar when tuned, but then there is always some horizontal blade play. If you tune the blade play out the action instantly becomes too stiff.
    I find this unacceptable.
    I still carry it as a stress relief tool that cuts / pierces when needed. I'll also have my kids paint it into a bee. Flytanium gtips cost 110$ which is a bit salty.

    You can definitely get them in D2, production even. I like their FRN way better than the G10 on these as the G10 has minimal texturing and is kind of slick in the hand.

    • @mknight6556
      @mknight6556 Před rokem

      My thoughts exactly. Benchmades G10 is slippery if your hands are dry. The FRN is better for grip. The FRN does gouge easier if you drop it though. The G10 not really. I'm with you though , the normal version is better for the price. I have this 556-1. Good knife, gutted a deer with it and it lasted 4 years until I needed to replace the omega spring. Lot of abuse and non stop flickings in that timespan lol. This knife is now discontinued so I'm glad to own it

    God this model and M4 model are loctite and tightened so hard. We just wanted it apart for the unique pivot and black liners but ended up ruining a few drill bits and melting the jade handles that it came with. 😂 Advice is to heat this bad boy up screw by screw before attempting to take it apart. They still sell them now and again.

    Love my griptilians! I would recommend them! What are you doing with pocket knives?lol I would love to see what you consider hard use folder. Also where are people getting Benchmades. I never had issues with Benchmades manufacturing, centering sharpness etc. I have 6 and had 8 lost two 😕. I had my omega springs break on one grip(6years old) but still works manually set very well. Had a liner lock fail on me with almost no effort and seen a frame lock do the same. For American made it is on par with any other company in my opinion. For what you get for the price.

    Isn't 556-1 steel supposed to have CPM-20CV steel? 12:24 shows the blade marking is only 20CV. Is this another variant or customized version of 556-1?

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  Před 3 lety

      CPM 20CV and 20CV are the same thing. They just didn't put "cpm" in front of it. Before Crucible, it was "DuraTech" 20cv which is the same composition but still powder formed. This isn't that. Its Crucible's stuff. No difference other than the choice not to include the letters.

    • @hawleyfromhell
      @hawleyfromhell Před rokem

      It's totally fine. If it bothers you too much you can tighten the pivot but you might not get it to drop shut. Alternatively if you use some blue loctite in the pivot and wait a day you can make micro adjustments to the pivot without making it too tight. You don't want up and down blade play is all.
