  • Towards the end of World War II, the US created a top-secret mission called the Manhattan Project with one goal in mind: to create nuclear arms for future warfare. And on 9 August 1945, the first atomic bomb codenamed 'Little Boy' was dropped onto the city of Hiroshima. But this only marked the beginning of a series of conflicts on nuclear weapons that would continue during the Cold War.
    ---
This original and wide-ranging 8 part thematic series takes you to the heart of the action of how machines have been an essential tool throughout military history. From the remarkable engineering inventions and technological prowess through to the human craftsmanship and personal accounts of those who used them. These are the quintessential stories of the machines that changed the face of warfare.

This wasn't about the airplane at all. It was all about the development of nuclear weapons. Weird.

Was the "MANHATTAN PROJECT" Based in New Mexico, or "partnered" with the "Hanford Nuclear Powerplant" in Southeast Washington State?
These "details" are never explained in video format, from what I have found.
My father assisted with the construction of most of the Reinforced Concrete Bunkers that where used in New Mexico, but that was all that he was allowed to tell me before he passed away (due to Dimentia) at the youthful age of 78yo...
He loved to talk about his work there, but NEVER got into any details reguarding location or process.
I truly appreciate but miss him as he past 3 years ago... I could have learned alot, but he couldn't divulge any details.

There were three geographical locations, but the most prominent one is Roswell, New Mexico. Area 51 is right up there, in Nevada. But the original Manhattan site was founded in the year 1942, called the Manhattan Engineer District. Sorry for the additional info, here is more:
Robert Oppenheimer chose to name this the "Trinity" test, a name inspired by the poems of John Donne. The site chosen was a remote corner on the Alamagordo Bombing Range known as the "Jornada del Muerto," or "Journey of Death," only 210 miles south of Los Alamos.

@@libradragon Thank you for more "clarification" reguarding the "Consumer Related Manhattan Project" Details.
I was hoping for more of the "Recently De-Classified" Information, as I know that due to age time let's "stuff"slip through the fingers of Congress/Senate...
How buried is the "REAL INFORMATION" of the "MANHATTAN PROJECT"?
Was it really THAT bad, or was THERE THAT many Innocent Soldiers killed/Infected during the "TESTING"?
Our Government needs to come "clean", though MOST of us will be able to cope with the reality of the results of Testing back in the mid-late 1940's.

There was really not a "Manhattan Project." That name was given to it after the war. The Corps of Engineers was put in charge of developing the atomic bomb. They created a new engineering district, the Manhattan Engineering District (MED). The original office for the project was at 270 Broadway, New York City. When Leslie Groves was put in charge of the project in September of 1942, he developed three main facilities: Oak Ridge (The Clinton Engineering Works) for separating U235 from U238, The Hanford Engineer Works for the production of plutonium, and Los Alamos for the design and fabrication of the atomic bomb. There were many other sites doing related work such as The University of Chicago Met Lab which did much of the materials research and testing or Wendover AFB where the 509th Composite group trained in dropping the bomb.

This *should be* mandatory subject matter in every school, every day, in the USA. How cool, we humans are; to gain the ability to obliterate EVERYONE. However, this is aptly described in perfect language, in a fine perspective, from 38:36 to 39:36 - the minute that should galvanize every human being, working so very hard to enable... being human.

For a country that started WW2, attacked Pearl Harbor, Allied with the Nazi, and refused to surrender? Then No, this is not a war crime but to bring peace and democracy to the World. Look at Japan today, I'm sure the Japanese are super happy because they only have to surrender to the USA and not have to deal with the Soviet and now Russia.
