I love that in Hollywood it’s like “lovable idiot is in massive amounts of debt because he has no clue how to live life, bought a car, but is adorkable” and in real life it’s like “literally anyone who went to college lives like this”
I want to say they’re pushing the idea that we’re all lovable idiots but that might just me grasping at straws…
Literally anyone who went to college bought 6 massage chairs and other expensive and unnecessary stuff and are in debt with their friends who have the same job?
“literally anyone who went to college IN THE USA lives like this”, here fixed it for you
@@JoshMeihaus Yep!
I’m not even sure if you could maintain being law enforcement with that much debt. They see it as being potentially easy to compromise/bribe, etc.
Amy bringing the $8 bottle of wine didn't feel right.
true
She and Boyle would have bought the expensive wine
but it was not an 8 dollar bottle, it was THE 8 DOLLAREST bottle of wine
Yes, I feel like Charles' wouldn't have bought it either.
@@pinkgiraffe378 Charles should have been furious with all of them.
I'm amazed Amy hasn't found a way to fix Jake's crushing debt when they got married. Amy loves numbers.
But numbers cant give her children.
@@angusmarch1066 🤣🤣🤣
Amy doesn’t care lol.
She doesn't because it's impossible to fix his crushing debt
I think she did which is why he have money to invest.
"was it a difficult movie for you to follow?" just killed me because it didn't seem like she was asking the question with scorn, just genuine concern or morbid curiosity. Jake is the Hitchcock and Scully of financial responsibilities.
What episode was this
Hitchcock has no money, Jake has negative money.
Hitchcock and Scully are the Hitchcock and Scully of financial responsibilities
It’s a wonder he didn’t go homeless
He almost did in Season 1.
His grandmother left him a flat
If it wasn't for Gina and Amy he would've
He had a quick economic survival lesson from the one and only Creed Braton 😎
@@TabbyeLynne The apartment is rent controlled and he lost it in season one because they stopped renting it out
It’s funny to me that Gina, who Jake has known since childhood, is the one he’s borrowed the least from.
She knows him the best and she knows he's not going to pay her back so she probably doesn't loan him anything so he doesn't ask.
I think it's because he doesn't want to hurt their friendship - they've known each other for a very long time and therefore also have more to lose.
She was just a assisstant at holts and jake got her that job. probably she made less than the squad in f=general, she flourished maybe after ginazone smthn
It's impressive Jake dressed up fancier than I'd ever seen him on the show to go to a bank and ask for a loan.
Well, Jake is a compulsive spender and spends his money on buying stupid stuff like 6 massage chairs, so no wonder he's broke. He needs Amy, with her self-discipline in his life and she needs him to learn how to let loose and enjoy life. They perfectly balance one another out.
Nooo he doesn't! Boy needed to just grow tf up XD
@@counselorchandru Ha, ha! He is a bit like Peter Pan in that he'll always be a kid at heart (even though Jake is around 39 in the show) and probably will never really grow up. Being a husband and father has already affected his maturity though.
@@counselorchandru He needs therapy and an ADHD diagnosis
LMFAOOOOOOOOO
It is believable they did well and are able to have a kid.
Compare to Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate. It is hard to believe those two can ever get so rich even with their successful career.
Its so sweet of Jake to offer everyone something from the shares he received despite being in a crushing debt...❤️❤️
"sweet" isn't the right word. He's a compulsive spender, at that moment he was already spending money he didn't have yet.
If that contained something like a million, he would have gone through it in a couple of months and be back to square one.
Well, he owed them all money so…
WHAT HAPPENED TO BLOCKBUSTER???
I mean, a Million shares of Blockbuster, even at it current state (0,015 USD a pop) it is still worth something. Selling them all would give you around 15K, so not filthy rich, but a respectable bonus still
Especially when the stock soared months ago. It would be worth millions. Michael Burry shorted that stock and made tons.
@@Ri_Guy wait how is it still around? Blockbuster went out if business didn't it?
@@The_Evening_Sun Crime
@@julianlittringer4208 source: trust me bro
@@The_Evening_Sun Itheres one left
Left out the part where Jake brags to Amy's dad that he has a 100 credit score, only to learn it's out of 850.
"Like a dining room ?"
"Yeah, but in Manhattan."
"Oh dang"
The banker's laugh and wheezing gets me EVERY TIME
The way the bank loan guy laughs always gets me
"8dollarest bottle of wine" is such a great line
I love that all the women are amazing with money! Even Gina, who i thought wouldn't be based on her personality of being irresponsible with her job, was smart and managed her money well that she bought Jakes apartment without any financial set back. Most of the times in sitcoms there is always that one stereotypical girl who shops too much on shoes, clothes, purses, etc and she is in crushing debt but switched it so Jake was. Hats off to the writers for breaking that.
I know it’s such a small detail that I love so much
As long as you know how to manage your money, even with a lifestyle like Gina, you can still save a ton.
Lol yeah just make all the men the holders of those stereotypes, great solution einstein
No I think his character is supposed to be clumsy not really a play on gender roles
@@michaeltye2359 it’s only Jake who has the problem and it’s a tie-in to his character being impulsive and childish at times. It’s not pushing a stereotype onto men, it’s just getting rid of a tiring and old stereotype that applies to women.
They’re turning it into something that makes sense because it makes sense Jake would have those kinds of issues.
I honestly prefer mature and smart Gina than her much more than her “normal” personality I think Chelsea does a really good job playing a more mature version of her
There are always characters that go in debt bc they buy expensive useless things (Jake, Michael Scott), but the way things are going, people go in debt buying food or going to school.
That's why I like Jonah (Superstore). Can't get more real than that.
People get sick and lose their entire savings plus go into massive debt without insurance which is a government scam to tax on on pointless things.
God, the fact that schooling or medcare can be the cause of someone's bankruptcy is insane to me (as I was raised in Europe, where this all is considered human rights and therefore paid by taxes)
@@Nnnmmmkkk Yeah, I'm Brazilian, we're really fucked up, but USA beats us to it. My mom works in a public hospital and there are Americans who came here to get cancer treatment for free. Because is cheaper to come here for vacations then get treated there.
@@clarapessoa8684 so many Americans including own family members have went out of the states down to Mexico to get surgery there since it’s way cheaper. After the trip and everything it’s still less plus you get a trip out of it.
@@KKDriver Fun fact! People do that and also pay insurance for the privilege! Insurance companies are a scam that sell the illusion of security for bankrupting prices
7:32 I just noticed Scully checking out the caboose
Jake is the one with crushing debt, so everyone else bringing the same $8 bottle of wine seems lazy or in poor taste.😥
They're cops, its not like any one of them is rich anyway.
@@francargeric1 but it was weird that Amy, a teacher's pet, didn't buy anything better; Charles, since he's a foodie; I don't remember if Terry brought one of those too, but Rosa did. These should've bought at least a $ 30 bottle or something.
@@clarapessoa8684 Terry didn't, he was just disappointed in everyone.
And yeah I had the same thought lmao Charles would splurge and there's no way Amy would only spend that much although her culinary instincts aren't sharp (the Ziti she made and didn't question the amount of salt it called for)
@@TheMridulrathi Amy would ask the salesperson for a nice bottle of wine, and she would read the label.
@@francargeric1 Average cop brings in 55k to 100k a year and 40-300k+ a year in confiscations

@@shorifulhaque5137 So if you had misfortune, would _you_ want people laugh at you?
Me too brother but it will take me 3 months to get back to my normal just don't know what to say to my friends in Christmas and New year
@Master Chief "You're not alone, you're surrounded by people who make the conscious choice not to help"
Jake had the cheek to ask Terry what he owed. Little did he know that Terry’s real name is Julius
Julius needs the money, he got 3 kids and a wife to feed
I declare bankruptcy! Surprised Jake didn't think of scaping in a train, Scott style
Just one dollar a month to relieve a young detective of his crushing debt🥺
2:48 "Talk to me goose"
Never thought that a Top Gun refence in B99 would make me feel complete.

Might as well wore a sign around your neck that read DTF.
Why did I read this in Captain Holt’s voice 😂
The bank scene gets me every time
At its height, block buster shares were $33 each... Jake could have been $33 million richer lol
Old man “I make small loans to desperate losers, and friends like you”
Gina “Well, I’m happy this went terribly. Uh, we do have to go now so please excuse us” 😂😂😂
There’s a reason why Amy’s the one in charge of the money in the relationship
with the stockbuster stock it still exists in another name and he could have made like 100k off of it this year
Yea, a million shares of a penny stock is still a ton of cabosh
@@markekar6021 $10,000
Jake having a blockbuster card explains why he's in debt.
2:42
I always imagined he didn’t even mention the loan yet.
His debt is just so infamous that the fact that he is IN a bank was enough to make the teller break down.
I'm surprise he isn't flat out broke
Hitchcock is a destitute
Just reaction of bank is really hilarious 😂😂🤣
Technically that means Jake owns Blockbuster
Please get this man an ADHD diagnosis and a therapist
His financial statements are giving me anxiety and stress😭😂💀
One million shares was worth three hundred million dollars at its peak...
I hope Jake gets his car back in the final episode.
I hope Bruce Willis makes it
@@carolineharty he didnt
He didn't even have his favorite Job in the final episode
And now he's also getting NFTs and random crypto. Why am I not surprised?
He is way to good of a detective to have crushing debt
"DOLLARS!?" HAHA 😂
Blockbuster stock is still traded but as of right now it's .0145 cents per share, Jake still had 14,500 in stocks there
Another peg in the Jake definitely has ADHD or ADD. Impulsive and reckless spending is commonplace amongst those affected by ADHD or ADD.
If I had more money I'd probably recklessly spend as well. Jake should seriously get evaluated and maybe get some meds for it.
You delved way too deep into the financial situation of a fictional sitcom character…
bro hes not real
@@4Isaac what, people with ADHD aren't allowed to see a positive representation of someone with the same traits and disorder? Why are you upset at the thought that I someone with severe ADHD can see myself in a funny, sweet, intelligent person?

The man has six massage chairs, three turn tables shows remarkable restraint lmao
Blockbuster still has a penny stock called BB Liquidating valued around $ .001. Extra 1000 bucks isn't bad.
I just noticed that Jake is insanely rich by now, since those 1 Million Blockbuster shares exploded
We laugh, yet we all understand and have been there.

Jake not paying $1600 for a bottle of wine might be the best financial decision he makes in The show

2:50 Just noticed Jake and Gina drinking the forties in this scene.
I would love to see Jake in Spuid Game.
I never understood why they act like that classic mustang is junk
Amy surely changed him as the years went by lol
Ah yes good old fashionable...
*consumerism*
For anyone wondering 1m shares in blockbuster is currently worth 1,200$
he must be absolutely terrible at spending money. Don't NYPD Detectives get paid a LOT of money?
Edit: yeah, NYPD detectives get paid on average $107,525 a year. The man is on 6 figures and is still in crushing debt.
well 100 grand a year in nyc is like slightly above average yearly income if you factor in cost of living. new york is expensive
5:40 inconsistency in the show….. in the first season Jake states himself he knows blockbuster is out of business. But for some reason he still has a card and gets excited when he obtained all that stock….

return your 6 massage chairs then?
Why not try a "buy nothing new year" personal challenge.
It's where a person does not buy any unnecessary new items for a year.
No new clothes unless you ABSOLULTELY need some new clothes. If so, buy them from a thrift store.
No restaurant food. Only cook at home and bring pre-cooked meals to work in tupperware containers.
No hangouts with friends. If your friends are going to a movie don't go with them. If your friends are going to a restaurant eat before you go to hang out with them.
Why not try that and see how it goes? It could completely cure youe crippling debt.

Jake’s crushing debt is bigger than Terry’s muscles
If you do the math all together Jake owes over $5000
Olympus has fallen is a great movie
Everyone saying Boyle wouldn’t have bought an $8 bottle of wine. Pfft! There is no better wine than cheap wine. There’s something about feeling expensive while spending less than $20. 😌
no.
I met a guy who was a literal multiple award winning French winemaker one time.
He said "it doesn't matter what brand of wine it is. What matters is the growing season, the condition of the soil and the timd as well as effort put into growing the wine grapes and fermenting the wine."
That amount of debt to Terry is the age of Ramirez in highlander
And yet he’s still able to live comfortably.
He wasn’t able to. Hence the point of this episode. Gina helped him out.
With that kind of debt, he couldn't get a security clearance to guard the Mayor's dog. How much does a NYPD detective make anyhow??
Enough to buy 3 turntables and 6 massage chairs on credit along with that car.
