Excellent job, James! I liked how you found self-made solutions to all the issues.
ATB, sir!
Thank you kindly! Glad you enjoyed it sir
Perfect timing on tbis video about to hook up my first blast cabinet in my shop as well!
Good luck!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!! Cheers
Super vídeo 👏👏👏👏🤜🤛
Great video James! I’ve always gotten the best results with glass beads. If you want an even finish on your blade with absolutely no hand finishing, you can’t beat it! 80 grit is what I use.
I’ll have to give that a go! Do you generally leave that finish with stainless steel or carbon blades too?
+1 for glass beads as well, not as aggressive as Aluminum Oxide but a great finish - I would love to see some corrosion testing from you on different steels and media!!
Broski, if you're really worried about air dryness (say for a plasma), look into intercoolers (between the compressor and tank), and get a triple filter/reg (solids, liquids, desiccant dryer), and then a motor guard. Esp down here in the Lone Star State, you need to curb the humidity as much as you can.
As for blasting media, depending on how specific you need to be ("per the print", ie shot peaning, glass beads, etc) get an industry standard media. Otherwise, black diamond has been a great go to "parts cleaner" media for my purposes. Although, sieved play sand (rejecting the large stuff), set out in the sun for a few days and turned over to dry, has worked well for me too.
Niccceeee thanks for the info!
I've had the best luck with coal slag. It is harder and longer lasting than glass and it is cheap! I've had a lot of clogging problems with AO, maybe it absorbs more moisture in the high humidity where I live.
Good to know! I have some humidity as well to contend with
Great video, I’ll be very interested in how the 3d prints hold up.
From using industrial blasters slightly larger than this they can do a lot of damage very quickly.
Would be interested to see a comparative video of various blast media’s for different tasks.
(Paint removal, rust removal, best finish etc)
Something I’ve had many a conversation about when blasting equipment in the past
Thanks for the comment! That would be interesting for sure!
You can all ways use a sand blaster for just about anything. Very good review.
Thank you!
I've found 80 grit glass bead to look good on copper and brass if a matte finish is what you're after. I have no way to test this, but I'd imagine you'd get a little work hardening on the surface of the metal.
Good point! A little surface penning may help. Cheers!
Cool 😎
I don't even want/need a sand blaster, but I wana watch this to see what you changed about it.
lol; awesome! Glad you enjoyed it
Would the sand not erode the intake baffle if it's made from that plastic? Even if it's wear resistant?
Good question… guess I’ll find out! I bet over the years it will.
Prost
