    Thanks for putting this video together! I have the same truck and had come across these racks but hadn't seen anyone else with a Maverick with them installed. Seems like a pretty good solution!

    Very cool setup! If I ever leave the city and decide to buy a car. The maverick n these racks are at the top of the list.

    This is cool and it's good having options to fit needs (as others have said). But driving with tailgate down and giving up backup cam is a dealbreaker for me. Perhaps it was an occasional thing then it might make sense for me.

    Great vid and sweet setup, makes a destination bike trip seem a lot less daunting!

      Also, how do you like the maverick? Is it the hybrid?

    • @TrentSiggard
      @TrentSiggard  Před 2 měsíci

      @@patkistler990 I have the FX4, so no hybrid. I drover with three bikes through a snow storm and I'm glad they weren't on a hitch rack!

    Great review, thanks. I have a couple of e-bikes and was concerned about the weight, perfect solution.

      I’ve seen people use this rack for their Sur Ron’s. Every one of my e-bikes work with this rack & I don’t worry about them one bit.

    Hey, I have that truck. Hey, I have that 1UP bike rack. :D Thanks for sharing, it's an interesting setup.

      It's awesome to be able to choose if I want to carry the bikes on a rack or in the bed of the truck.

    Thanks for this detailed installation review. Looks awesome except for the strap system that runs around the tailgate. That's a terrible design. Anytime a strap is against a painted surface it's a no go for me. One trip at highway speeds and those straps vibrating in the wind will scuff through the paint right down to bare metal if the trip is long enough. All they had to do was utilize the tie down points on the tailgate itself that ford supplies.
    The solution you came up with works, but it seems like the wheel chock portion needs that strap to hold it from bouncing. Also, that drop in bed liner on the tailgate doesn't look like it's meant to have any hold down power. Shouldn't be tying things down to that. Use the tailgate tie down points.

    • @TrentSiggard
      @TrentSiggard  Před 16 dny

      The wheel chalk part never bounces, it's heavy enough not to. And the bed liner solution I came up with is enough! It's not load bearing, that's all in the front wheel. It's just to stop the back of the bike from flopping around.

    Cool concept and I know everyone's needs are different but I don't see the point. Tailgate pad holds more bikes with ease. And adding 2 more carriers to your 1up wouldn't stick out much more than the ride88 with the tailgate down. Plus you can still use the bed. But regardless, it's cool that people are coming up with different ways to carry bikes to fit personal needs.
    Have you considered using the tie downs on the bed to secure the rear wheels? Something like a 6ft Roller Cam strap with hook ends would work well I think.

    • @TrentSiggard
      @TrentSiggard  Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah throwing a stretchet through the wheels would have also worked, but I liked the idea of using Voile straps on the tailgate. Now when not in use I can strap things like first aid to the tailgate for easy access.

    Its fine if you dont need to use the bed. so for travel or if you need to take parts/ washer, tools etc its useless. Also requires to be added and dismantled when not in use. If your carrying your bikes regularly and need to use the bed just get a thule style top of bed roller rack. I leave mine on and then i can still use the truck as a truck and put a bike on whenerver I need.

    • @TrentSiggard
      @TrentSiggard  Před 2 měsíci

      I hardly ever need to use my truck for "truck stuff". If I do, I can remove the rack trays in about 2 minutes. Super easy. I also like how I can go through a car wash with the Ride88, the car washes in Utah won't let you go through them with a hitch mounted rack.

    I like this, looks tidy, i just got some mountain bikes and always interested to see how others transport theirs around. Hows the Maverick?

    • @TrentSiggard
      @TrentSiggard  Před 2 měsíci

      The rack is awesome. So is the Maverick. This truck has been killer for me (mostly city driving with occasional road trips where cargo capacity is welcomed)

  • @tmhudg

    Thanks for making this video. The product is kinda cool. The rear wheel tie down seems almost unnecessary to me. Is the strap that hooks on your tailgate only required to provide a place for the wheel tie down to attach or is it also required for the front wheel rack? IOW, when you switched to using your strap through holes in the tailgate panel, did you not use the strap that hooks to the tailgate?

    • @TrentSiggard
      @TrentSiggard  Před 2 měsíci

      The rear wheel tie downs aren't needed, but they can be helpful if you're going to be going over rough terrain. Since I cut my own holes for my straps, I do not use the strap that goes around the tailgate anymore. Much more simple for my use case!

  • @ZenEndurance
    @ZenEndurance Před 5 měsíci

    Get a tailgate pad when you no longer care about your bike (breaks the frame) or your truck (tears up the paint). Otherwise they are ggrrreeeat.

    • @tmhudg
      @tmhudg Před 4 měsíci

      Can't see how a pad would break the frame. You might get some scuffing but breaking?

    • @skullsroad3642
      @skullsroad3642 Před 4 měsíci

      have you ever used a tailgate pad? doesn't sound like it. 5 bikes shuttling on some really rutted out roads (up on 3 wheels and everything) and no bikes were harmed. just make sure your frame is clean where it contacts the pad and make sure your tailgate was clean when you installed the pad.
