    • @Turboviikinki

      Synthwave is stagnated and dead. This is something far more beyond than that.

    • @dumbfish97
      @dumbfish97 Před 6 lety +25

      Yeah it's got a stronger industrial electro/techno feel, some 00's style raw electro basses mixed with 90's style techno beats but an underlying retro electronic feel towards cinematic Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield or John Carpenter feel.
      Definitely relying less on synthwave peers for inspiration and it seems to have really pushed his sound forward with every release. His general interest in metal and rock and less electronic genres has definitely helped him create an iconic sound.
      Ultimately, since it's such a loose term anyway I'd still call this darkwave like his previous works The Uncanny Valley and Dangerous Days because even though it's far beyond the synthpop feel of many non-Blood Music artists it's definitely got a strong retro theme just of different genres and time periods. Also it's heavy cyberpunk aesthetic and atmosphere helps it fit the darksynth community perfectly.

    • @dumbfish97
      @dumbfish97 Před 6 lety +12

      Honestly my interest in new synthwave was dying through the first half of the year with some underwhelming Lazerhawk releases and a decent but not mindblowingly innovative Com Truise album making 2017 nothing compared to the amazing year for music that was 2016. Then this was announced, and now the amazing sounding Dan Terminus album and damn I'm back to listening to synthwave daily.
      Synthwave is entering a period of stagnation, 80's electronic wasn't as bland and predictable as the synthwave scene is now. Where's the Human League - Being Boiled or New Order - Blue Monday type vibes? It's all predictable nostalgia/hotline Miami vibe which I live but it's being done to death.
      I love this label for what it's artists are doing for the scene, the synthwave movement is just picking up mainstream heat, let's not let it die before it gets there

    Perturbator is fast proving to be one of the premiere voices in synthwave. In a genre that's felt increasingly stunted by those who see it as nothing more than an emulation of 80's visuals and sounds (which definitely aren't bad things if done well), his work has expanded upon this definition and raised the bar. The future of synthwave depends on artists who display this kind of stylistic individualism and exploration, and I can't wait to hear more from him.

      Yeah, well Uncanny Valley is really good there is no question about it, but Perturbators new aproach hits me really hard. The encompassing ominous atmosphere combined with the progressive style, which we have not heard from him before works really well. To be honest it works alot better than I expected, since the first time I heard Tactical Precision Array I didn't exactly know what to expect from this new EP. Dangerous Days and Uncanny Valley were unmatched withing the genre. Exploring seemed reasonabl, but i rather expected change with sounds (Mby Doom2016 synths?) rather than dropic melody and color which made him stand out from simmiliar artists, for raw darkness.

    I think this style was foresadowed a bit on "Uncanny Valley" - Diabolus ex Machina, Assault, The Cult of 2112 were so much darker and intense than the rest of the album. I had a feeling back then, that he would explore these darker, brooding beats a lot more, but this record takes "darkness" to a whole diferrent level. Fucking amazing.

    So, first listen impressions:
    This does NOT pass the "car test" i.e. make you feel you want drive to the end of nowhere until forever or drive your car with unwise speed that could possibly result in a crash.
    HAVING SAID THAT, this is moody, ambient and sad AF! Production is off the charts, at so many places there are "layers" to the instruments, leaving the impression that the whole thing is somehow alive, it "breaths". At other moments there's so much "space" with some weeping synth parts that invoke so much sadness. And then you got all the industrial-like "horn" sounds, commanding your attention, sidetracking everything else. For the few parts that ol' daddy P. raises the bpms, it's seer magic from the past. It's unfortunate that these parts don't really last for long.
    It is what it is, certainly unique, but probably not for everyone. Other synthwave producers though, take note: the production of this EP is STELLAR, there's lots to learn here.

    Masterful EP. Not too many naysayers either. I hear this from start to finish, and am reminded that it wasn't synthwave or hotline that really hooked me onto this genre... It was Perturbator. It was Perturbator that blew me away, and continues to do so with increasing magnitude. I'm happy to follow the Dark Lord wherever he goes from here.

    This sounds amazing and I'm extremely happy with the new direction that Perturbator is moving in. It still has his unique style, but it doesn't sound like the stereotypical synthwave that everyone's rehashing over and over again these days. I also love that he's moving away from the bright neon and cliche imagery. This new solid black-and-white theme is wonderful, and it actually makes the music feel heavier and darker.

    This work is at its essence, like a painting painted on an infinite canvas at an ever more laborious pace but never able to find an end. The listener seeks and must only accept a denouement that brings him as close as possible to an intersection whose outcome is chaotic grandiloquence. A good piece of music though for a long walk under the rain through the countryside!

    I love this bleaker industrial sound, it really helps set Perturbator apart from other synthwave artists and it adds emotional maturity to the synth scene overall. This is easily his most technically proficient album too, the song structures are much more interesting and complex than on his previous work, especially if you listen to the simple beats on Dangerous Days.

    James, si tu lis ceci, je t'en supplie : écoute moi. Garde ce style pour ton prochain album. Vraiment. Tu as dit en interview que t'aimais les albums "concepts" mais il ne faudrait pas que ce New Model soit juste "un concept" et que tu passes à autre chose. Tu viens de crée une brèche dans la synthwave et poussé l'éléctro au-delà de ce qui avait été fait. Continue sur cette lancée, et même, essaie si tu le peux d'aller plus loin. Tu as peur de montrer ton côté sombre, tu l'assumes pas totalement car tu penses qu'on te rejettera, tu préfère le mettre dans L'Enfant de la Forêt et tu l'as dit toi même, L'Enfant de la Forêt c'est plus toi que Perturbator, mais ici si tu ammènes cette noirceur extrême et que tu la pousses à son paroxysme les fans seront perturbés mais 1) ils apprendront à aimer cette direction et 2) tu vas ramener 1000 fois plus de fans. Les gens aiment le sombre, il y a des millions de jeunes qui écoutent slipknot et qui aiment les films d'horreur. Fais la musique qui te correspond, et crois moi désormais ce n'est plus le synthwave de tes VHS d'enfants, c'est cette direction que t'as pris, ce nouveau modèle, et je pense que tu pourrais même aller plus loin, essaie d'aller le plus violent, le plus sombre que tu peux et crois moi il y aura un public pour ça. Slipknot - Iowa est un album les plus vendus au monde et c'est aussi un des plus sombre et violent au monde. Alors fais toi plaisir. :)

      James Kent a dit qu'il ne ferait plus d'albums comme ça. Je le comprend un peu, quand t'es quelqu'un de créatif, c'est d'un ennui mortel de faire toujours la même chose. Et peut être qu'il fera quelque chose d'encore meilleur dans le futur (et non, la compil de remix qui sortira en novembre, ça ne compte pas car ce sont des vieux travaux et ça se ressent)

    • @Staphylin
      @Staphylin Před 5 lety

      rezios Justement, je disais pas qu'il devait faire New Model n°2, on sent bien que ici il a fait le tour, déjà car c'est un EP et ensuite beaucoup de passages se ressemblent, mais 1) ses synthés ont jamais sonné aussi bien ici, parfois sur ses vieux morceaux ça sonne "cheap" 2) c'est dark à mort 3) il devrait aller ENCORE plus loin dans le dark et l'extrême et le violent

    • @rezioz
      @rezioz Před 5 lety

      The Hiver le problème avec tout ce qui est dark, violent, etc... c'est qu'il n'y a aucune limite, si ce n'est celle de l'imagination, et au bout d'un moment, on finit par en faire trop et ca ne ressemble plus a rien (crois moi, je parle en connaissance de cause), je pense que c'est ce qu'il veut éviter. Mais après, j'avoue que j'avais autrement bien aimé ses deux album sur l'enfant de la foret.
