    I like this guys straightforward demonstration method, he actually lets you hear all the options. I wish all pedal reviews were like this.

      I second that. He comes across as very natural, and down to earth. It's a nice contrast to the PGS guy, who seems like he's trying to be cool, and reading from a script at the same time.

    This is the chorus pedal used by Zakk Wylde, Malmsteen, Dave Kilminster and Van Halen. Possibly the best one to season a distorted amp

    I've had this pedal for almost 10 years and I still loved seeing the demo. :) It's the best chorus pedal I've used, which kinda kills me since it's a $100 boss pedal among a bunch of my other $200+ boutique pedals. :) But, use what works and this pedal rocks!

      @pikkuarska Před 6 lety +1

      This. It attenuates the signal a bit when not engaged, but this is the best sounding chorus to my ears. (or actually ch2 would be awesomeness, but it doesn't have the controls if I wanted to mellow the effect a little). Maybe I'll put all my pedals into a switcher/looper some day =)

    So I bought one of these today based on this video. The distorted/chorus sound you’re getting is a classic. It’s so exactly right I’m going to sell my tc electronic chorus+ modulation and flanger. So funny I had rather have this overlooked Boss pedal. Thank you, Don!

    So let me get this straight - the Filters should be set to Max to retain your amps bass/treble as they are set. If you roll the Filters back (cut) then you start lowering the bass and/or treble?

    It'll 'get through a huge gob of distortion' - right I'm in 😁.
    Seriously though, this pedal sounds good on the moderate speed settings. Never bonded with chorus built into modelling amps, not enough adjustment/settings - the CE-5 seems very versatile.
    Edit: Bought this pedal used. I finally get what a chorus pedal brings to the table. This pedal adds that certain something, the versatility beats the built in chorus of modelling amp hands down.

    Thanks for the review...I have a Roland JC 90 combo amp that sounds absolutely killer with its chorus effect in stereo, but otherwise leaves a lot to be desired compared to my tube amps. I've been looking to get a chorus to throw onto my pedal board for use with my single 12" speaker Blackstar HT Studio 20 combo amp...can this pedal do the trick giving a semblance of that killer chorus sound or do I really need to think about getting a 2 x 12 to run my board stereo with some of the effects I have like my TC After Ego X4 delay and others like phaser, flanger and rotary vibe...which stereo chorus effect pedal would get me that lush JC sound? The hunt is on!

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 5 lety +4

      Hi, MTL. Thanks for your question. Part of the secret sauce with the JC amps is the dual amps assigned to each speaker, which give you a true stereo chorus. We have a lot of great pedals, but none of them will give you the same spread and dimension as your Roland. You need two amps to match that open, lush sound. As far as pedals, the Boss WAZA chorus and dimension pedals are great, as is the Julia from Walrus Audio:

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey, Paolo. Thanks for reaching out about the Boss CE-5 Stereo Chorus pedal! This is a Modulation based effect and Reverb is a Time-Based effect, so you won’t be able to get any Reverb out of this pedal. It’s specifically designed for Chorus, but Boss does have a great Reverb pedal in the RV-6 and you can check that out here:

      If you have any other questions feel free to get in touch! Thanks and have a great day.

    I though the primary purpose of chorusing was to make a stereo signal out of mono. Tremolo does volume modulation, vibrato does frequency modulation. Chorus does left and right channel modulation to build the stereo presence, yes or no? I mean, one of the main selling points for the Roland D-50 was stereo chorus. Monophonic chorus is like monophonic reverb. What the heck?
    Sure, I understand that the Chorus Ensemble indeed can transform a monophonic guitar into a stereophonic instrument. But the guy in this video uses single output of this pedal... It's like using Small Clone. Sure, some shimmering gets introduced, but zero spaciousness.

    • @diamonddavemc
      @diamonddavemc Před 5 lety

      Totally agree. I'm experimenting with the stereo chorus pedal signal going through the PA to add that really huge stereo shimmer, with my guitar amp sound sat in the middle. Sounds great in rehearsals.

    • @mattgilbert7347
      @mattgilbert7347 Před 4 lety +1

      Most stereo chorus pedals are in fact a wet/dry vibrato effect. When run in stereo, you get dry signal from one output and pitch modulation (vibrato) from the other output. When run in mono, those are summed.
      Chorus effect evolved from Rotary Speaker cabinets. Leslie.
      A *true stereo* chorus is the Maxon ASC-10. It flips the phase on the two outputs.

      @mattgilbert7347 Před 4 lety

      My spring reverb tank in my amp isn't stereo, mate.
      Anyway, wet/dry is better than stereo. Live soundguys hate stereo rigs, for good reason.
      Wet/Dry/Wet is the best of all possible worlds.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi, OP! Thanks for your message, hope you're well and safe.
      The filters act as High and Low shelving EQs to contour the frequency response of the Chorus. Not your dry signal. Makes the effect darker/brighter.
