    Just some help from a British person. A garden is an equivalent of a yard, but a lawn refers specifically to the grass section of said garden

    • @jasonyoung7705

      @@nickgarcia6572 (also a Brit). I've lived in a house where it was a garden (soil/plants) and so called 'the back garden', but other houses I lived in it was concrete, so called 'the back yard'.

    • @jasminaliysa111

      Yep British person here. Yard in concret back space of the house

    • @Musikur
      @Musikur Před 3 lety +5

      In Australia, Yard refers specifically to the "outdoor living space" on the property; garden refers to the plants other than grass (trees, shrubs, flowers, usually deliberately planted unless used ironically to describe an overgrown "garden"), and lawn is the grass in the garden or yard. Hence you can have a yard without either a garden or a lawn, or a garden without a yard, however you can't have a lawn without a yard. So if you live in a terrace house, you might have a front garden but not a front yard, but on the other hand, you might live on a typical house block (1/8 of a ha), and have a yard of lawn.

    The funny thing about the answers you gave for Arthur Weasley’s patrones is that weasels and ferrets belong to the same taxologial family. This makes the fact that the Weasley sons refer to Draco Malfoy as “ferret” and Draco Malfoy calls them “weasel” funnier when you consider that the Weasley and Black family trees intersect due to a marriage of relatives, meaning they also belong to the same family. It’s almost like they’re unconsciously recognizing each other as family.

    English-English:
    Front/Back Garden: Typically has plants in it besides grass. If you say 'the garden' then that also refers specifically to the back garden.
    Front/Back Lawn: Specifically the grassy area of a garden. If the area is purely or predominantly made of grass, then it can be called the 'front/back lawn', but most people will call it 'garden' anyway.
    Back yard: The garden/the back garden.
    Front yard: The front garden.

    In all fairness ferrets are weasels
    Ferrets belong to the weasel family (Mustelidae), which includes polecats, stoats, and ermines. Domesticated ferrets most likely descend from the European polecat. Ferrets were domesticated about 2,500 years ago. Historically, ferrets were used to hunt rabbits and rodents.

    As a British person I'd like to clear this up: a garden is a large area of land behind a house, usually detached or semi-detached, which includes grass and plant areas. A yard is the area behind a terraced house which is solely concrete or otherwise, ie, there isn't any grass. A lawn is simply a patch of grass, which can be in the front or back garden.
