  • Let's take a look at the latest North American add-on route for TSW2.
This time it's the needs-no-introductions 'Horseshoe Curve' of the ex-Pennsy, now Norfolk Southern Pitts Line which carves its way across the Allegheny Mountains.
Included are the foam favorite Gevo ES44ac and the GP38-2 as well as 40 route miles, the South Fork branch of an additional 18 miles, Altoona, Johnstown and all bits in-between.
    ----------
As always this is out of my own pocket and is not biased due to receiving free keys or "early access" from Dovetail Games studios

I just got it a few days ago. I changed some of the graphic settings on it and it runs alot smoother and the horn sounds don't glitch as much. My only problem I've had so far besides that is the GP38-2's brakes, there HORRIBLE. Going down the grade through the curve to Altoona is a nightmare, you have to slam the automatic into emergency to even get it to slow down. Dynamics / independent brake don't do jack coming down the steep grade. Idk what to do about it. I'd love to see the Harrisburg Line come to TSW 2, Reading to Abrams would be nice.

Seems like this DLC is as follows:
    Pros:
    - Exists
    Cons

Yes this is slightly harsh but geez I had my expectations low and this managed to limbo right under them

the fact that the cover photo they used is 8104...the leigh valley heritage unit...but in the game its just a normal NS paint scheme. obviously no research. but the PTC looks pretty good. thats really accurate to the real thing. and thats from someone who stares at it everyday.

Being basically from Altoona, well a little north of it, this is really cool to see, thanks a ton for taking a closer look at the map and certain details.
Especially growing up here it's cool to see locations I see all the time lol,
I was hoping you'd be able to take that local back to Holidaysburg, that train is known as EB10 I believe, you'll see them every now and again, it's awesome to see them go a little through the city and over some of the old PRR bridges, I gotta catch them again sometime, especially on the mainline!
Other than that I really wish we could go north a bit, going up to Tyrone at the very least would've been awesome, there's a few level crossings up there as well and some nice straights to get some speed going, seeing my hometown would've been neat lol
Details wise, yeah they definitely could've done better in certain areas, as other commenters have explained well enough lol, I don't get why DTGs DLCs are so overpriced honestly, I'd love to get this but oh well

It’s not horrible, but there are issues. The expressway in front of the train station is one way traffic westbound. Plus the FPS and most buildings are off. What bothers me is the Amtrak platform at Altoona is raised like British platforms (honestly just looks like they put a new skin on one of their London-Brighton platforms - you can see the SR style concrete supports under the lip). A tiny bit of research would have shown them that this is a low level platform. I don't understand how major mistakes like this make it through...

  • @austinosgood3823
    @austinosgood3823 Před 2 lety

I really wish there was more variety in general and more train traffic on routes. It would be cool to see other RR operating around the different yards, or on a mainline. Like in Oakdale Subdivision, there are passenger platforms but no passenger train traffic of any kind. The peninsula corridor flirts with that idea, rather poorly I feel. Kinda disappointed there isn't the option to run a high hood Geep considering NS actually does.

I have finished all 5 Champion Missions way to easy they were. Awesome Route with small little problems old Pennsylvania Signals and Signal Bridges that make no sense, but I can overlook as Conrail Removed 90% of the old signals in 1993 making Taller stronger Signal Bridges to accommodate for New rolling stock at the time as Doublestacks and Autoracks were striving to make a dent in the Freight Industry and the Gallitzin Tunnel Park Road bridge only has one bridge support to the bridge given in game there are two. Altoona shops and roundtable were Not modeled real good because players will not be going there at all which is fine with me not being detailed.30:40 that track in real life is the main lead into the Transfer table shops that only fix and do Maintenace on Tanker Cars. Unfortunately the PRR GG-1 isn't sitting at the Railroad Musuem roundtable as it does in real life since the 60's, I want that old Conrail Bay window Caboose . Alto CP Tower is one of 2 cp tower that are still there to this day Not counting MG Tower which was Built and used only for WW2 mountain Traffic Passing. Longest running trains in the United States was when WW2 was going on Horseshoe Curve has Timetable records of trains 400 to 500 cars long heading around the curve . Other than that AWESOME ROUTE, Love the GP38-2 except its Blinding cab dome light which feels like your staring into the sun.

@@MattChaffe well I mean I thought they were pretty apparent… there’s a long list of things that could be “improved”, but also a lot of things that should’ve came out correctly… some are a lot less significant than others, but still should’ve been gotten right… for starters, some of the smaller things is having a K5LA modeled on the GP38-2, but it has the sound of an RS3L, which is something that is so easy to get right, and they still messed it up, secondly, the GEVO-12 sounds awful, I mean I have no idea how that made it into the final version, the cab looks a little bleak on the GEVO (not a big deal), the K5HL end sounds very off, and it straight up just sounds like it was recorded from a real locomotive and slapped on (it should at least feel like it belongs in the game), lots of the scenery is just meh at BEST, most of the yards seem very un-modeled and plain, the roads and other scenery around the tracks look really low quality, and on and on… I’d be glad to keep discussing all the things I find wrong or interesting about this route, but here is a few things that bother me… maybe I’m just being a pessimist, but I am trying to like the route, but it’s hard to appreciate anything they do when the simplest details are fumbled and then scenery looks like it belongs from 2009…

As far as trees I notice they don't make them relevant (in kind) to State, Country etc they always look the same a good example is the Harlem Line (which is already half of its real life route) the leaves in NYC they have are incorrect we spend $30 for they're content and they barely put in real effort .

The terrain import is not very good, there are mountains in the distance that are "broken"!! It's unbelievable that they leave it like that!!!!
It lacks grass at the edge of the rails, some buildings are too clean, the sounds lack credibility too.
Apart from these little things, the road is superb, there are nice details, the assets are quite well laid, the rocks are magnificent, I like the big yards, a bit empty but very very beautiful.
The only thing that bothers me is the lack of grass at the edge of the rails, it's too clean for a coal road.
I really like it, I'm going to buy it, but it lacks a passenger service which, in my opinion, would have added a little more to the level of immersion and driving.
Maybe a future loco DLC to add the missing passenger service who knows?!
I was waiting for your very detailed test as you know how to do it so well before deciding and thanks to you I will take it.
    thank you my friend 😘

Not only are some locations not that great, the physics are just downright awful. Grain trains going up the east slope at track speed? An oil train tearing up the west slope? Another swing and miss from Dovetail and whoever created this route

Let’s be honest the people that work for the Corporation that makes all of these games they’re getting old with the edits we need new people that actually want to help the community like younger people but it can be old people but they just Gotta be smart with their stuff on trains we need NEW NEW not the Same horns, engines, and blah blah blah it just seems like they’re not fans with trains like we do. It’s like they don’t try to hard like they just want money for fun. They don’t seem like they listen to their fans at all… kinda sad..

I recently visited the horseshoes curve as well as Altoona and I must say. Non of this is accurate. NON OF IT. Even tracks in mileage spans are completely off. There’s way too much brush on the curve. At the shops it looks like no one finished it. Sounds are 100 percent off as usual. Railroad crossings are completely unfinished. Just extremely poor quality in all. This was way worse than the MBTA providence line. This also leads me to suspect that they might use Google Maps to generate their maps instead of the “automatic terrain generator” they said in the clinchfield map… What leads me to that is just the crap ton amount of over brush work. It’s not accurate at all. Honestly should’ve expected this.. This is probably the worst map they’ve ever released. It literally un finished. Just crap.
