    I think what a lot of people (non-southern) don't understand is that the best time to sweeten tea is while it is still hot.

    Good video. I really liked the tip to not boil the water. I had always heard that you have to add boiling water, but my tea always has that bitter taste. Trying this now! Thanks!!!

    Way to go!!! No boiling and adding sugar to hot tea prevents the tea from clouding. I add cold water to hot tea bags again and squeeze. Surprising how much tea is still there. Good job~~~~

    This is exactly how I make it. You are correct people run into problems when they try to boil the tea and that makes it bitter, it doesn't need to be too hot. Great vid.

    Never heard of the Baking Soda idea, but the bitterness is pretty much nil using this method. I have done the "simple syrup" method before, but just went back to the lazy man's way that works quite well :) Thanks for the comment.

    After years of trial and error trying to make the perfect sweet tea I've found 165 F to be the best temperature actually. I use 2 tea bags for every quart even though the directions say otherwise and I also never let it steep for more than a minute or two.

    I remember drinking this stuff all the time as a kid, after we moved to NY my dad stopped making it so now I'm trying to make it.
    And I mean we always had this stuff in a big plastic jug inside of our fridge.
    We are gonna be moving to Virginia this summer hopefully so it'll become a daily drink again hopefully.

  • @ChrisMac87
    @ChrisMac87 Před 6 lety +3

    I do 6 cups of water and 6 tea bags. Like you I don’t quite boil the water. Add in another 2 cups of cold water and put it in the fridge. When I get me a glass of tea I’ll add a half teaspoon or so of sugar. People like different levels of sweetness so I let em do there own sugar.

  • @op-rudolph7251
    @op-rudolph7251 Před 4 lety +2

    I do pretty much the same, except I run the water slow and stir until the tea is full. I have found this both stops the bubbling and distributes the sweetness better.

    I use the Mr Coffee Iced Tea Maker but I let my tea mellow(sit at room temperature for 10-20 minutes) before I serve or refrigerate(It takes away the bitterness). Here's what I do to make sweet tea(this video is for sweetened tea)... use water in pitcher instead of ice and keep it on 'closed' until brewing is finished, 6 teabags(8 for gallon), 1 1/2 cup sugar(2 for gallon), and press button to start brewing.

    It's not an exact science or anything with the amounts of water. I probably used 1.5 to 2 cups of water to boil it in. When I use the standard sized tea bags, I use 7-8 and this makes 1 gallon of iced tea. The tea I use is a Luzianne blend made for Iced Tea. Being in Europe, you can order this from the Luzianne site directly. I know that there are many more types to choose from in Europe typically and would hate to even try to suggest a blend. Tetley is also sold here and might work well.
