Just perfect
I saw Conan in 1996... he walked up into the crowd and shook my hand... then the whole band came up and danced with this lady in the aisle. He put soooo much effort into the pre-show. We loved watching him. That night, Jay Thomas was a guest and promoting Mr. Holland's Opus. He started talking about CHUD and pointed me and my buddy out and said we looked like a couple of stoners. One of the greatest nights of my life :)
Never heard a bad story about this guy.

I love how Conan takes time to talk shop with Taylor, and how Colbert recognizes her talent and work ethic. Makes me feel proud for her❤
Knowing Taylor has Conan, Colbert as mentors makes me feel like a proud older sister; I couldn't have done less to earn this pride 😆💜

A good callback is priceless, agreed. I give to any skeptic Monty Python, pretty well whatever sketch/movie scene you like, but if you need a particular recommendation look for the torture of cats during Holy Grail. Or the number 3 in same movie.

@@pierfrancescocosta6336 it was the episode with Weird Al, Thomas Lennon and Drew Carey, which was a treat because I had just seen his Phish tweet that morning. It is filmed about... 15 hours after midnight lol, but I will say I was surprised how quick the turnaround from taping to airing was

Speaking as a fan of the original @Midnight, Taylor has been absolutely killing it on After Midnight. The new version is so much looser (and thus funnier), and I love how they're more than happy to go off into the weeds with their guests. Having a full hour undoubtedly helps, as it gives more time for shenanigans.
They tape at 5:30 PM or so (east coast)..... $100 says Colbert gets asked where the bathrooms are tonight!

Agreed! Craig was so silly and heartfelt. I'll never forget watching his monologue about Britney Spears in 2007, where he talked about his own sobriety and treating others with grace. That helped me get sober 7 years later. Such an interesting guy.
Two of my favorites! So happy for Taylor that Conan appreciated her early on. She’s so talented. Unfortunately I don’t like her new show, it’s not a fit for her, but she’s still one of the best.
Ms. Tomlinson said it, but like Matt I was likewise floored by the deepness of (and lost in exploring the thought of) "how do you follow yourself?" - I want to be on the "Matt Gourley needs a friend podcast". no wait. I think I just actually want to be Matt's friend. Also Taylor Tomlinson is just delightful.

My buddies and I went to NYC for a trip in college in the late 90s. We had no money, so watching these live shows were our only form of entertainment. I don't remember who Conan's warm up guy was, but he was hilarious. He saw my Illinois sweatshirt and started making fun of Chicago and Illinois, and we were just dying laughing. I miss these live shows. Conan did come out, but he just welcomed us and went back in.
I'm glad to hear they work with the writers. I know it's not all improv, but glad to hear they aren't just all pre-written without input.
I love this so much! I love Taylor’s comedy, Stephan’s, and so many of the guests on Taylor’s show - especially Maria Bamford. I’m really glad she has mentors like Conan and Stephan and that she’s really succeeding with her work.

You formed my teenage years when I was alone in my mom’s house while she was pulling the graveyard shifts as a nurse. Your opportunity with NBC made me so angry I didn’t even want to watch the network channels anymore. Now, as a fully matured adult, as stupid and emotional as it sounds I get the opportunity to show your clips on CZcams with my 7 yr old daughter that absolutely loves watching you. She thinks you’re hilarious and I know she gets that quality from me. She thought you were great just because you made fun of American girl dolls (she doesn’t like them but doesn’t hate them either) anyways. Thank you so much for cheering me up through dark times in my life and downright pathetically lonely times in my life. You have no idea how many smiles you brought to my face and how much I wanted to share it with others ❤

Two of my favorite comedians, makes me happy to see Taylor as a guest on Conan's podcast.
Taylor's laugh reminds me of Jimmy Carr's, but the American female version 😊 I love both of their laughs (Jimmy's laugh surprised me at first, but now I love it)!

Ran into Steven once when he was living in Montclair. I remember him as a part of Janeanne Garafalo's stage show as a dog trainer in the 90s.

Honestly, I thought the answers the guests on Taylor's show give were improvised. I figured, well these are professional comedians, their job is to be quick witted an funny. So it makes sense. They certainly play it off well on the show, so had me fooled.

I've always thought of Conan as a kind person, but he really showed how thoughtful he is by being aware of Joaquin Phoenix being nervous. How cool to acknowledge and attempt to put him at ease.
The true talent of Conan is how he takes care of people. He will let the meek shine with layup bits for them, he keeps them on track, and makes them their best version of themselves for America to see. Someone not funny? Conan shoots a slam dunk for how gangly he is, crowd loves it, and Conan's standup becomes the guests.
Matt was a really great find for Team CoCo.

Have you seen the 1980's Scorcesse movie The King of Comedy? The Joker w/ Joaquin Phoenix is heavily based on that. DeNiro was also in it, which ties in nicely.

They're a mix of improvisation and prepared lines. It's the panel show format. If it relied on pure spontaneity, it would be as dry as if it relied on pure scripting.

I’d really like to see Taylor get a more traditional Talk Show. After Midnight’s gotten a lot better since the first few episodes but I don’t feel like the absurdist game show schtick plays to Taylor’s strengths like it did with Hardwick.
(I also think it works a lot better as a half-hour show than an hour show, but that’s just me.)
I’d like to see what Taylor could do with a Graham Norton style format.

AFTER MIDNIGHT IS SCRIPTED AND NOT IMPROVISED!? I’ve fallen from the peak of Mount Stupid, right down the Dunning-Kruger slope. But that does make a lot of sense now that I think even semi critically bout it.
My dreams have been crushed, I thought the jokes on after midnight were improv, I've seen real improv games with that funny of jokes before so I just assumed it was real

I was so disappointing when I found out Taylor got a game show. I thought she was the new late night host for James Cordon. I would watch that.
See this would be my problem if I was a guest or comic on Conan- if he came in to talk to me and then I found out he doesn't talk to anyone, I would immediately assume that Conan could see that I was nervous, and then I would be nervous about that forever.

Ok, to find out that the comics prepare their material ahead of time does disappoint me a little. I was enjoying seeing these brilliant people make off the cuff remarks that were hysterical. and now I know it was planned.
Surprisingly perhaps, a lot of performers have serious stage fright and hate live appearances. Many film actors are this way, and many musicians probably wouldn't go on a stage unless they were "hiding" in a group. Being the center of attention is not all that easy, even for professional show-offs.
