    Actions become dogmatic when we stop at the action and not the spirit behind it. The five times pray that Muslims engage in is a form of meditation and the ablution that is the preparation for it is a truly spiritual act when done with the spirit which is behind it. Al Ghazali, Rumi, and Ibn Arabi open the door to contemplation and the spiritual path that has led many to embrace Islam as a religion of peace. May God provide you with further openings Russel for engaging people in thought beyond themselves !

    Great to see a strong agnostic, firm in her beliefs. I agree with her, that atheists who dogmatically reject the possibility of anything beyond their immediate senses are just as ludicrously insane as fanatical religious people that dogmatically reject that there just might not be any god(s).
    I was religious once when I was a child until I realized how hypocritical the christian religion is and most christians are. I entered a period of time where I backlashed on that and became a stern atheist and a scientist. But then I came to realize that the scientific method itself demands that we believe in what we can prove is true and we don't disbelieve in things we cannot prove to be false. By its very nature spirituality can neither be proven true nor proven false, therefore I've become agnostic and truly believe that is the proper path in life. Like this lady, I find comfort in not knowing. Many people in the atheist or religious communities think that all agnostic people are somehow in despair because they don't know "the answer" that they falsely believe they possess. Nothing could be further from the truth, acknowledging that you don't know is a great release and a freedom to enjoy the wonderous beauty of life to the fullest rather than dwelling on dogma and antiquated belief systems.

      I think you share more in common with the rational Atheist community than you realise.
      As someone who once considered myself Agnostic, it was only following research that l identified myself as an Atheist, my principle position unchanged.
      Atheists who have an understanding of scepticism, rationality and logic will never claim they know the answer to ANY unfalsifiable propositions: such as the extraordinary claims made by the religious or spiritual. The burden of proof always lies with the claimant and if no sufficient evidence can be provided to warrant belief, it is unreasonable to accept a claim purely on the basis of it being a possibility - l'm suspect we both agree on this point.
      However, atheist's DO NOT reject the possibility of the existence of a god or the supernatural either! Atheist's simply hold the view that extraordinary claims, require extraordinary evidence and to date, in our opinion, no sufficient evidence has been provided to convince us.
      You may find the find the following utube channels enlightening: Cosmic Skeptic, Rationality Rules, Matt Delahunty.

      @guapodesperado2822 Před 4 lety +3

      Masima, I appreciate your comment, and while you may be correct that I do share a lot in common with your beliefs, I'm going strictly off the dictionary definitions of these words. The Merriam-Webster definition of "atheist" is "a person who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods". That is actual disbelief, which I do not hold. The definition of "agnostic" is "a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality such as god is unknown and probably unknowable, (broadly speaking) one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the non-existence of god or gods. Therefore, by definition, I fall into the agnostic category. I acknowledge that many people have definitions for words and categories that do not match the official definitions but just wanted to let you know that is how I define these terms.

That is actually why I left the church when I was young because I realized that there wasn't a person amung my Church that was actually following what they said they believed in on Sundays.

I do believe that we can respect all religions and see ourselves part of a collective whole, no better than a tree or an ant. But at some point we have to commit to one path in order to dive deeply into the process that it presents. It is a fine line to walk. To me, avoiding dogma while doing faith based (love based) practices is imperative to spiritual growth.

  • @LorenzoNW
    @LorenzoNW Před 4 lety +15

    It appears Elif equates Knowing and certainty to having faith without doubt. In actuality, faith without doubt is the equivalent of asserting one’s faith because one doubts. All assertions are lies. On the other hand, Knowing comes from direct experience. Knowing does not require data or proof. Knowing is independent of anyone or anything.
    It also appears Elif has built an identity around being a seeker. So if she was ever to find what she seeks, it would destroy her identity (ego). And despite what she says, maintaining that identity is more important to her than Knowing. I may be wrong but those are my observations from this brief interview.

      @AP-qs2gx Před 4 lety

      Elif's views come from Rumi and similar mystics. I highly disagree with these views as a positivist. I think the contrary is true to what she is saying. Everyrthing is certain including uncertainty. Certainty comes from our senses interpreted through our mind. Truth is mystics gain toll among people who find the cure as isolating themselves from outside world hence decreasing the input. As they focus on their selves, they dont make things better they just isolate the noise. Because outside world doesnt care about your inner feelings. It exists and it sends output that you take as input through your senses. Imagine someone really composed inside.if you torture this person to such a degree tha pain becomes unbearable and it forever changes this person This would show thay your interaction with outside world matters. isolating yourself is a bad and more importantly wrong idea. We r really slaves of our biology. Unless we address our biology as well as perception of senses through our reasoning, cognition, we will never be able to grasp some realities.We cant even perceive or interpet them. From birth to adolescnece all we do is either work on our senses or cognition which help us interpeet those senses both are super useful to knowing your surroundings and its reality.

      One modern Christian spirituality uses the terms perception, recognition, and knowledge to describe a continuum. Perception can be wrong perception, a followiing of the ego, or right perception based on doing so with the Holy Spirit or Jesus or some other symbol of Love. Recognition introduces correction at the level of the error and is wholly without effort. Knowledge is that of knowing God.

    I'm not a religious person, but obviously know that many are, and good luck to them. I haven't got a clue who or what created the universe, just like everyone else. I take life as it comes, good, bad,or indifferent, and just try and make the best of each situation. I have my own set of morals & values, I try to do the best I can without hurting others, and when I die I guess I'll find out or not, what it's all about.

    I agree with this philosophy. Paradoxly though, the philosophy to impose ones school of thought mandatory amongst others is maybe the best way to sell it and to obtain a solid structure around that faith.
    But in my opinion and of the few wise i have seen, i do think all truly wise follow the mindset of freedom of choice and individuality. All mistics do break bread together.
    Maybe the difference is that mystics travel, whether it be phisically or mentaly. The arrogant do not.

    If you believe we come from spirit, the whole point of being here is to find our individual expression of God. That's why religions are distractions from spirit they are power structures. There are rituals and teachings that can help us, but each has their own possibility and way to find a personal expression of God and to realise how God is all of us.

      Out of interest, which areas are you referring to?

    • @HistoryMaze
      @HistoryMaze Před 4 lety

      @@lollylula6399 well...:)..there are plenty to be careful with (and I mainly refer to what's loosely termed 'the occult'). There's a very strange book called the Crata Repoa. it may or may not be true. It's about the journey of initiation for ancient Egyptian priests - the original freemasons if you like . It mentions how the initiates could spend years underground in a labyrinth - until they were ready to receive their final 'secret knowledge'. Some never made it out..and the warning of the book was - only embark on this journey if you're able to finish it - otherwise it will lead to madness. Pandora's box perhaps. Icarus....
      Now this could just be a story - like I say - but speaking from my own experience - when you start 'looking' for meaning etc - perhaps in shapes - impossible infinite numbers - the synchronous 'key clues' the universe can give us - sometimes - if you allow yourself to get carried away - you can end up with some crazily deep and powerful experiences that can shake you up somewhat (they can be great of course!) . I had one recently - I was shown (in a meditation vision- by who I think must have been the Goddess Isis) 'everything'. She appeared in a temple with a curious necklace (with a pyramid design,and a circle inside another circle (and 7 other smaller ones and another medium one - but I digress far too much!:)...anyway - the circle within a circle opened to reveal a blinding light. I peered in. It was so intense. A silent roar of magnesium white light - with fractured images of the earth from above - a skyscraper - shapes. I lasted about 2 seconds and pulled away. I woke out of my 'daydream' - and thought...maybe another look. I went back in - she was there - in the dark orange temple. As I approached again, I paused, and decided no. This isn't for me yet. To know all that has been, all that is, all that will ever be in one instant. Farrrr to much. And not nice either.
      I know I probably sound mad - but this is all true - a vision a few days back as a result of doing quite a bit of history research into the mystics. Now I know all's cool...I won't get foolish. However - I mentioned this before in a comment, and was told by an ex-occultist that this was a demon, and I should beware.
      I didn't feel malevolence - but - I felt I was being tested - and luckily I made the right choice. Others (and also easily influenced people) may not...and it may not end well.
      I've known several people (including my dear brother) who went too far, and were not able to return to their sanity.

    The problem with evaluating everything through the subjective ego is that entities cannot become present in a way that uncovers what they truly are. The subjective ego projects onto and into entities and limits their presence. It cannot just 'let things be' in their presencing. An example of this is the artist Cezanne. When he paints an apple it isn't a familiar object - fruit. When he paints an apple he opens up it's presencing and uncovers what we often fail to see, when we see an apple. In his art he creates a 'clearing' that is neither around transcendence or emergence, but a space for entities and humans to interact freely with each other.
