East and West, North and South, regardless of race, sex, gender, colour, religion, ethnicity, nationality or any other category, we are all made of stories.
Stories bring us together, untold stories keep us apart.

Elif, you are a friend to many women like me who are embarking on journeys that are otherwise less embarked by most women for reasons that still baffle and sadden me. I want you to know that your words give me Umut, Ummeed, Hope. This video on inherited trauma has struck a personal chord.
Reading your book, The Island of Missing of Missing Trees, sparked a conversation between my father and I. He is a naturalist and treats our little 'mbubo', like a second home. I had to ask him why. This is something I had never done in all the years I had lived in that very house, in all the years I and my siblings had worked in that very piece of land, planting and harvesting. And he said, 'my mother was buried in that land.'
I didn't know when the tears came. But they did.

Epigenetics can be very fascinating.
My grandma had a stillbirth ( first baby) and once in a while she talked about it. It took me years to understand why she was so protective of my mom and us. She had the fear of experiencing the same pain/ grief again. My mom also had the same kind of anxiety to the point of suffocating us with her protective ways. I certainly feel some of it for my kids and grandkids. It might be a learned behavior or my grandma’s trauma left a genetic print in our DNA or both.
