Making a semi-hollow neck-through winter bass guitar

- The second guitar in the four seasons series :) This time it's a necktrough semi hollow design made from maple and smoked oak veneer. The theme is winter so we took a snowflake and white color as main motifs in this build. It took quite some time to get the design right but after couple of work days the 3d model was complete and we could start the production. The 5cm plank was first cut to desired smaller pieces. each piece was than planed 43mm thickness and glued together into a single block. Glue we used for this project was vinyl acetate based with short open time of 20 minutes. After the glue has cured, the block was left for a week to relieve some possible inner tensions and to achieve uniform moisture level troughout the cross section. The block and the fret board was milled on kuka kr 150 industrial robot. Tension rod is made from two 4mm round cold rolled steel rods, one 4mm inbus screw and eight 4mm nuts. Fret slots were marked with a blade over the paper with precisely printed fret positions and then cut with a small hand saw. After the fret board was glued onto the neck over the truss rod groove and all the necessary holes were drilled, the guitar was sanded and prepped for painting and six coats of varnish. Fret board was oiled with teak tree oil and frets were hammered and then pressed into their designated grooves. Schaller tuning keys and piezo bridge were the choice for this build so after we installed them, it was time for electronics. A good friend of my brothers, Phd student Ante Brizić made schematics for this guitars electronics which we build for only 5 dollars or so.. And it works great! After all the soldering, it was time to put the whole thing together, add a guitar belt, tune the strings an done! This project took us well over 150 work hours.
Special thanks to Schaller for all the advice about piezo bridge instalation and also to Krešimir Klen- Fish for the final guitar test!.. :D!
Thank you for watching and don't forget to like and subscribe! :D

You didn't really just make your own circuit board ...
"How f*ckn extra do you want your guitar Sir ?"
"Yes."
Absolutely incredible.
Omg!
that's a bass, not guitar
@@ibnzain it's a bass guitar
Don't think I"ve seen anyone making a truss rod. Interesting.
Personally, I wouldn't trust those welds on the rod. There ain't much weld penetration happening and it is crucial to the strength of a welded connection. Doing it like that on an easily accessible part - I don't mind that; having it in a neck of my guitar, under constant tension - not so much. I'd rather do it with a tig torch or figure a way to do it without welding the rod itself, but that's just me. Still, a very cool and unique guitar.
@@d1sord3r i make one for a 5 string bass, i welded it with mig and spot welding, and is still working
And a whole active system too. These guys can literally made a guitar from the ground up. Only thing they didn't make were the bridge and tuners. DAMN!
@@Timopeo huh! well fancy that. I'll have to try that some day
I know a luthier that makes truss rods himself always. And when I asked him why he laughed saying that it's same thing as factory made and cost fair just as much as factory made truss rods should cost - something about nothing. He said that he's never seen that his hand made truss rods ever broke.
That’s the most beautiful headstock I’ve seen in a looooong time.
Most actual guitar manufacturers don’t make their own truss rods. What a mad lad
Never did I think I'd see PCB transfer and etching on your channel!
Amazing work (as always), and well worth the 150 hours!
So much to love about this design! Seeing you make your own circuit board blew me away too
I don’t normally say stuff like this nor do I go in for instruments that look too fancy. But this made me tear up a bit. I think it’s the nicest design in a bass guitar I’ve ever seen-a true bucket list instrument.
This whole thing was amazing, but after seeing years of woodwork on your channel, the thing that blew my mind was making the circuit board. So cool.
A fretless version of it would be totally awesome.
If not better than awesome ;)
Dude. I hadnt even thought of that. Its be better.
Yeah it'd be kinda like a Michael Manring Hyperbass..
it would be like those infinite fretboard bass like Jens Ritter, Algan, and Stradi
Beautiful bass. Love the blending of modern and classical aesthetics. Not many could pull that off and not look gimmicky. Excellent work.
I'm glad you like it Jeff! :D
the mix of machines and hand tooling is very cool
I think i'm on number three or four of watching this. Each time I am still amazed. Never gets tiring. Only wish I had one for myself.
😁thank you so much Jeffrey! I'm glad you like it so much!
That is amazing! Your range of work and skill set is impressive.
absolutely,.. historic build !, super talented, when i saw you etch your own board, i knew we had a live one here !
That CNC router is badass. Guitar came out perfect.. got serious thump in the low end. I imagine that body style is really good for overall neck strength, alignment, and acoustic resonance.
Truly amazing! I was mesmerized the entire video
Wow that was an amazing build to watch, very inspiring thanks for sharing
What a bunch of tools you own and master... unbelievable. You can make anything.
I love this, beautiful design and finish. Also excellent unconventional use of drill “press”! Amazing
Build your own truss-rod?? Etch and build your own circuit board?? Edge-mounted controls for that simple yet elegant look?? OUTSTANDING!!!
What an awesome build, from start to finish! Thanks
Wow! That was a joy to watch! This bass is art!
A stunning instrument! Elegantly executed! Thank you for sharing!
Your work and videos are very cool and helpful.
Thank you for the wonderful work.
This video was awesome. What a beautiful bass guitar. Wow! You guys kicked @$$ on this one. Bravo. Stay blessed.
I love the mix of techniques and styles in this project. Definitely masterful work and amazingly thought out design process.
Thank you very much Karl! :)
Could watch that for hours ! Great !
Absolutely gorgeous instrument!
Two words:
Simply amazing!
Thank you Chris :D
Fantastic, great job!!! congrats!!!
Only one word can describe it. FANTASTIC!!! The tone and sounds were perfect and so pleasing to the ear. That is one of the best sounding guitars I have heard in a long time.
Thank you Steve! I will make a sound demo video sometime in the future with better sound recording equipment, camera mic is just not good enough..
Make it a good one
This bass guitar is just beautiful and divine.
I can't even express how excited I am to see the idea of inset pots! Fantastic build!
Glad you like it Antonio!
Да, с таким оборудованием можно делать шедевры, что и было сделано. Молодцы!
я рада что тебе нравиться! :D
Looking so good...can't wait for Spring and Summer!
Me too.. Thx:)
I have a White electric twelve string and it looks GOOD like this !! Great job !
Most excellent indeed my friend! Very tasteful shape with some really stylish touches. Loved watching that, as always. Thanks for sharing! :D
Thank you for watching Matt! I'm glad you like the design!
Super nice! Well done.
Killing it as always! Absolutely gorgeous
Thank you Ellie! :D
You are a Artisan, the machines cannot perform without input and the chisel cannot guide itself. 👍😎🎩❤️
Thank you:)
Amazing! Always a pleasure to watch an artist at work!
:D I'm glad you like it!
Love the placement of the tone and volume control. Beautiful guitar!
Theres a luthier in Columbus Ohio named FRENZ that has been doing that on basses since the mid 90's. It's really friggin cool.
A fantastic edition to the collection! Now you really can't go back, you must finish them all! I love everything about this guitar, it perfectly and essentially SCREAMS Winter. It's cold and calm, yet beautiful and mysterious at the same time. Love it, 5 out of 5 for me, I'd give you 6 or 7 if I could!
:D thank you very much! I really have no other choice now, I hope you'l like the rest too..
Beautiful piece of art!
Totally worth the watch soooo cool
Ok. In English.
I've played as a bass guitarist in several Rock bands.
After watching these videos, now I feel more respectful towards my bass guitar.
I really like the cello-esque design!
Is there a thing you can't build?? Seriously, great work! Amazing!
Beautiful as always!!
Thank you Joschka! :)
A great way to spend 17:49 of my life. Fantastic work!
Wo-hoooo, almoust 18min video, thank you majstore 😀
:D pre dugo ako se mene pita..
Madreeeee míaaaaa!!!! Ha quedado genial!
The truss rod specifically is the most wild thing I've seen in the whole CZcams guitar making world. This is a beautiful video and product man.
You guys are getting it done, and it has a great tone! Enjoyed watching
You think so?
That is a work of art!
Omg I love winter and this is so satisfying to see!! Now I want this guitar😭. But seriously this was a good freakin job and such a creative idea! 💕💕
Thank you Ishita!
My God I loved watching that!
A thing of beauty.
Incredibly beautiful visual design. I would love to hear a longer clip of it being played by a pro bassist
And to think I found this video on my birthday!! I would absolutely commission a bass like this with a few cosmetic modifications.
That sounds nice!
fantastic as always!
Thank you Libo!
Beautiful, I enjoyed watching you build your bass.
Thank you very much!
Everything about this is perfect, right down to the Hipshot hardware. Masterful blend of machine and hand tool production.
The hardware is actually Schaller. But still so perfect. :]
LopezDeLaGuerra you’re right! Good eye.
cool idea to put knobs in the side of body, great work
Very cool! Making guitars is no joke, much more to it than people think.
John Conklin
I suppose electric guitars are a bit easier to build than acoustic ones, but given how specialised a craft luthiers practice, it’s definitely no joke. After all, the maker still needs to do all the same things except for the sound box.
it takes so many machines to make handmade bass.
Bellissima complimenti, è un'opera d'arte. 🔝🔝
Non pensavo foste italiani, sarebbe bello scambiare due chiacchiere!
No, I'm from Croatia. I'm glad you like the guitar! P.S. I Just came back from a business trip in Bergamo :D
@@lignumchannel I'm actually in Milan and I was in Bergamo a week ago, I thought you were Italian from the nitro sign! Keep going with the projects they are amazing! :D
A swan of a bass...!
Was waiting for the "semi hollow neck". Still not disappointed.
pleaseeeeeee, keep making guitars!!!!!!!! u guys are amazing!!!!!!
Really wonderful. You might consider using machine screws (and threaded inserts) to hold the back plate on. I loved that touch on my old Alembic.
You should be proud of this beauty! mm mm, good!
Bravo pour se grande travaille
Masterpiece !
Glad you like it Marc!
Wonderful!
Absolutely gorgeous...
Thank you! :)
Wow! what a cool looking bass! Also, I love the idea of putting the controls on the side of the guitar rather than the top- I'll have to steal that idea for my own build! :)
Well, i am new to this Channel. And just as i thought ive seen every carpentry equipment possible, this guy casually starts one of his two(!) one armed Robots. Nontheless an amazing build :D
Fantastic
Весь ролик напрягался, боясь что что-то пойдет не так. Однако, результат выше всяких похвал!
awesome!
Stunning....
Glad you like it Philip!
Amazing
Amazing video, more like it please !!!
Thank you Simon!
De toute beauté cette basse félicitations à son créateur
Amazing!
Thank you!
Молодчик, гитара просто произведение искусств!!!
The man even can slap!! Very talented bass maker guys..
Who here are fan of slappin Davie504?
Nice build. Can't go wrong with the Powerfix range - incredible price for the quality.
Ficou com um som muito bom !!
Awesome 👍
Glad you like it!😁
Awesome looking bass. I was surprised to see him cut the fret slots freehand without any guides after seeing the robots carve out the body.
beautiful bass
Thank you Walter :D
your welcome
Odličan video, a naravno i gitara je super
Hvala! :D
Very Nice!
Thank you Eduardo!
I love the recessed controls into the body edge.
Man, ive been a bassist for circa 8 years now. Ive seen and played alot of cool basses (even a balalaika bass ffs) but this takes the cake dude. Thats the most beautiful bass ive ever seen.
I think I'll go out tomorrow, buy a Dremel, and make one of these for myself...
Impresivno!
Hvala Ivane! :D
