Trucking stories, dump truckin' action and hooking to the lowbed to recover our 1963 Autocar tractor which has been put away in storage for many years. All the same truck in the picture on the cover!
Awesome video, Mike ❣️❣️ brought tears to my eyes 😢 When I was 4-5 years old my dad had an Autocar just like that, but it was a wrecker, twin boom Holmes 770 (ask Teddy about those,or even Anthony!) That was back in like 1976-78? Anyway, my dad put me on his lap, and down the block, we went!!! He had his arm underneath mine, steering with his fingers but letting me believe I was steering 😄😢❤❣️ That truck was gorgeous😍😍 My dad had a repair shop, and at that time had the biggest wrecker on Long Island!! Thanks for the memories, Mike, and have a great time at the show ❣️❣️❣️
Canton NY here. Enjoy your videos very much.those little milk bottles are like we used to get in school or from the milk man. Remember they had paper caps?

@@TheBostonTrucker hey Mike great video as always my son turns 13 on Wednesday the 29 we watch all your videos if at all possible could you please send him a shout on his birthday thanks for all your hard work
That's a great old truck and I drove a 62 with a 250 Cummins with a 5 by 4 tandem was a good truck to drive it's awesome someone is keeping the old truck's alive 😊
I could listen to you and Tony's trucking stories all day long. Great video! Love the MBTA clips, as usual. And you taught my wife what Loam was (we're from the land of topsoil!)
That was too awesome…your stories are funny, especially the West Virginia one with the bugs in the house…the autocar firing up with tony all excited brought a tear to my eye I was so excited myself!
I served In Vietnam in1968-1970 wioth MCB 12 and MCB 1 15 of the trucks were A-CARs tan dem axle with a 250 Cummins 5x4 tranny and real 11:00 x 24 rag tires. No PS or A/C, steel plate in the doors and on the floor, sand bags also on the floor, and armstrong steering, We pulled a Challegee/Cook belly dump with tandem axles.Speed limit was 20 MPH, bridge weight was 115,000 lbs. Daily temps ranged from 80 degrees at sun rise to 110 degrees in late afternoon. Humidity was always 98%.We drove 10 to 12 hours a day ,6 days a week, stood a 6 hour perimiter watch every 3 days usuaslly from midnight to 6 am. We made 2 or 3 loads per day going hauling crushed rock 30 miles south of DaNang for HWY # 1. I had never driven a truck bigger than a single axle 1948 Dodge dump truck. I also learned to operate a 955 track loader, #12 grader, D - 8 cats , and TS-24 Euclid pans. That was real trucking and equipment operation. We were all given a 5 gallon uninsulated water jug.
Falstaff beer my dad would send me to the country store/tavern (now historic land mark still open) with $1.50 cents. 6 pack .99 cents Camel non filter 25 cents. They put the beer and cigs in my basket on my bike. 9 yrs old and I would pedal 2 miles back to the farm. When dad blew stumps he would have me get on my bike ride 3 miles to hardware store hand money and note from my dad to owner. He would put dynamite caps, fuses in my basket and I would pedal home. Felt so good to be given a job on the farm. In the 1950’s evil was not a way of life. We respected law and people.🇺🇸🤗
First heavy truck I drove was a late 50’s Autocar mixer in 1974 or 75. Had a mechanical parking brake so had to use the trolley brake on job sites. Had a 5x4 transmission
Thanks for sharing, learned how to run a tractor 60 years ago on those Autocar's in Winnipeg Manitoba transporting machinery all over the prairies and to Dorval Quebec . "rotti" is right, You and Tony make quite a pair. Great stories , old memories
I enjoyed the video and the story with the bugs lol. I'm from the Bahamas. When I visit any of the family islands, as we call them, the mosquitos and sandflies will make you want to leave the minute you step of the plane one the southern island lol. Thanks for the polishing tips
Mike, you've got to ask Tony if he meant Tommy Ullo, aka Shorty. He was the low bed operator for Flett for 50 years. He was a funny bastard Shorty was.
In the 90’s I was going on I-96 to Grand Rapids Michigan. Semi rear axle was smoking really bad. Pulled up beside truck cab and honk and pointed to shoulder. He pulled over and got out he didn’t know what I wanted He was 3X my size. Told him rear brakes locked about to catch fire. He said rear brakes were replaced at home shop company 8 hrs ago. He said if I did not stop him he would of lost trailer . He said dozens of cars went by not one warned him. Told him they did not know what they were looking at , Guess What he was a Teamsters the union who fought for every trucker. Organize crime you bet Detroit special but not the drivers. Company sent out service truck got him rolling in 6 hrs. It nice being old 77 yrs to share yesterday 😂
Great episode! Starting with the compression release really brought back memories of starting up my Dad's Autocars. Had a 63, 64, and 67 all with compression releases. Nothing else sounds like it. Keep up the good work and keep on trucking.
My dad used to work for DeOrtenzio Excavating And used to bring home so many bottles we had a collection my mother loved them but as soon as you picked that blue one up I knew exactly what it was
1. Easy on Jerry now! Seriously tho, worst movie, best truck. 2. Every time I see that white hood I’m like “Well what’s he doing in a white truck? His is red.” Yeah, I’m not smart. 3. Way I always heard, Carol was the manager. Some doctor owned the whole shebang. Wheeling was always a great show. You probably know but the entrance to bar in the hotel at the top of the hill was the front of an old cabover. Transtar I think. 4. That A car is a doll! Hope to see it all trimmed out soon!
Hey Mikey! Great Vid... We need more Time with Mr Tony..the light in his eyes as he was pulling the lever's! was great! Al the best to u the Fam. and A.C. Crew...now Jake Something!
Back in the 80s when I was 15 I used to ride with a guy Dave Wheeler from Acton or Littleton Mass , he had and ole Autocar same vintage used to run material for my uncle the late great Zeke Nichols , those were the days

Hello Boston trucker. It's great how much pride you have in taking care of your rig. Really enjoy watching your videos. My hometown is Holyoke Massachusetts.
W Virginia people are probably the best people ever l had a run to there for 8 years and would stop at the valley veiw restaurant every trip and saw the same people and got to know them very well my run was out of jersey
I’m from Sault Ste Marie, the Canadian one. We get a lot of blizzards up here but I remember that one particularly. I was still in high school then and enjoyed everything being shit down for a few days.
What a great old truck with the modest chicken lights. Put the pinstripes and lettering back on and Tony will have trouble walking (or driving)with that hard on!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
359....or an A model.... 3408... either a 15 over... or a 5 an a 4... flat top double bunk... 280 wb... My last truck was a 92 379 with a 3406. My first truck was a 75 352... 1693 TA 425 turned up to god only knows... and a 13 with 4.11s.. and 10.22s which meant 85 at the governor.... but you had to watch yourself going up hill in the rain with a light load...because she would literally spin the tires.. with 28,000 going up the Palasades hill in nj going up to the GW bridge. 70s and 80s. Good years.
I just started a new driving job with Yarde Metals out of Pelham NH and I pass by your job almost every day. I actually saw you drive by today. Would actually like to meet you one of these days. Your enthusiasm for trucking is great and contagious. Keep up the great videos.
Love the old Autocars - my favorite! Just missed being able to drive the real thing, had to settle for the Volvo version about 20 years ago. Can't wait to see it all lettered up!
My grandfather had a construction company from the 50's until the 80's I. Burlington, ma. He had one heavy B model single axle tractor. But the rest were Autocars. The trucks that generally built up New England during the interstate system boom were extremely heavy duty Autocars, Macks,Brockway's,and some International. Pete's, and KW were generally west coast trucks. I know Autocar is trying to make a comeback, but they have an uphill battle.
Howdy Boston Truckah boy . Gonna talk to Anthony maybe that Autocar could be my daily driver who needs a car or a Ford Flex when you got an Autocar . THANSK for the update. Bill
I have not run a semi end dump like your trailer. But I have run a side dump trailer. I enjoy that we would dump on the run and you can leave a nice windrow or just dump into a pile. Don't have to worry about anything getting stuck. I'm up here in Alaska
77 yrs Michigan I think highly of you because you keep your trucks clean and nest. You take pride in your work Me too I would detail fleet truck next driver give it back trashed. Talked to Supervisor he made every driver detail their trucks end of shift. Some drivers quit over keeping their trucks clean. They walked away from $31./hr plus medical and pension. I took over company. Later. You are very good person.😊
