Kevin Pietersen : KP - Story of a Genius

- Kevin Peter Pietersen MBE is a cricket commentator, conservationist, and former England international cricket player. He is a right-handed batsman and occasional off spin bowler who played in all three formats for England between 2005 and 2014, which included a brief tenure as captain. Nasser Hussain interviews him in depth about his time in cricket.
The best thing to come out of Kevin being dropped, Was seeing England lose game after game because of him not being in the team. Kevin asked Andrew Strauss what he needed to do to get back in the England team, Strauss said score runs. So he goes and scores 355*, Still not good enough. The Bloody Bastards.
Yeah KP should have been in that English side for another 2-3 years. No one else was better than him. They had problems they couldn’t fill
You never know what’s in the other side of the coin? You can only guess!
KP is still good enough to play at the highest level even today…infact much better than most. Imagine if he was still playing as on date all records would have been well beaten.
It’s a real shame that he didn’t even play for ten years.
He was made the scapegoat! Best English player of that generation and the most destructive batsman in the world from 2005-2014!
Aside from the 2005 Ashes and then the golden 2009-2012 period, England were a poor side across all formats for much of Kevin’s career. His brilliance with the bat was often the only thing dragging them over the line to the occasional win or draw. I can completely understand why he is not everyone’s cup of tea as a person, but as a cricketer: inarguably superb.
Won the 2009 Ashes & 2010 T20 WC with KP on it
Goughie summed it up for me ,everybody wants to play like him now.Understood that batsman are there to score runs not occupy the crease and that even the best bowlers are intimidated by all out attack. On a personal note he's now just as good as a commentator and shows his true big heart in his conservation work, thanks for the memories, genius
Brilliant documentary, the most entertaining and non fearful England batsman I've ever seen in the 47 yrs I've been watching international cricket.
He arguably one of the greatest batsman.....my all time favourite thank you for this video
Agreed - probably underachieved, but as is discussed here, woefully managed.......
The greatest England batsmans ever
The there is the dumbest thing I've heard this week.
Why do you think so?@@jacobkuntflapp
Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Flintoff and Ian Botham. Shared characteristics? Ability to play at a whole new level and........ really hard to manage. We don't understand how they are so good and they don't understand why we're not! It's not a new thing in sport. John McEnroe, Maradona, George Best etc etc. They are on a different level and we have to appreciate that for good and bad. KP was the most amazing batsman I have ever watched play. In the video he hit that mid foot leg side flick through mid wicket. The commentator mentioned Sir Viv. Now we all know how incredibly amazingly cool Viv was but he never hit a shot like that. Feels weird to write it but I think KP was a better batsman in his day than Sir Viv was in his.
Such a fabulous recap of KP’s career. I can understand where he came from , though I think he could have made his share of errors throughout the later part of his English career. I won’t rule out utter jealousy from many team members , Matt Prior etc were pretty ordinary cricketers in comparison. A spiritual guru could have kept him in check, moulded him to be an even more successful cricketer. He needed someone to help him take control of his mind. A genius….
Swann shown in this documentary what kind of a person he was those England players didnt value him as he should
Great player - a pleasure to watch. retired / forced out too early.
Like Darren Gough Said
" Look At The Top Current Batmen In The Wolrd Right Now .How Many Of Them Play Or Want To Play Like Kevin Pietersen ?
ALL OF THEM "
Thank you so much for getting this up. Greatest sports documentary I’ve ever seen!
No problem - it’s one of my favourites. Don’t forget to subscribe to the channel!
I believe Swann was a divisive character in all this! I wouldn't trust Swann as far as i could throw him!
Agree. Swann comes across as a real smug, arrogant twat who thinks he’s cleverer than he actually is. Was good to see him run away and retire like a coward in the middle of the 13/14 Ashes series.
His character in quitting cricket during a losing Ashes series in 2014 says it all!
I remember Sri Lanka playing England right after this historic ashes series win over Australia and putting up 570+ runs in Lords and tied the Test series! Won the ODIs 5-0. Sri Lanka discover a talent in Malinga!
The best english batter to come from South Africa.
KP would have surely ended up as the Greatest English cricketer ever. Unfortunately, ECB couldn’t manage him.
what a watch! amazing documentary
KP, the legend. wish he played for south africa
We are so fortunate to have witnessed such a talented player in our life time. Big personality! Big heart!Big player!
Gotta love this man and what he's trying to do in South Africa.
what a player he was ❤❤miss him
He changed how ppl batted in Test Cricket...not even arguably....no...HE...CHANGED IT!! In 2005!!
What specifically did he change about how ppl batted in test cricket? Can you be specific? There are many batsmen who were attacking players like himself long before he was even born. Not sure what exactly you are talking.
Absolute nonsense. He changed nothing…….yes he was a good player. He wasn’t more attacking than Ricky Ponting, or many other players, if that’s the point your trying to make.
Remember those huge switch hits sailing for 6s❤❤🎉🎉
India tour should be included in this
Love you KP....Goose Bumps...Maverick..
GREAT DOCUMENTARY & INFO..
my favourite batsman, grew up watching this legend ❤

How many players now are trying to play like KP? ALL OF THEM
Here i am liking this for the 100th time. Pietersen is a class act! Am from Assam, so elated that he is vocal about saving the rhino's. GO Kaziranga! Go Kevin!!!
I met him in Sharjah once I toured for a tournament that organised by KP foundation . Still one of the best memory in my life as a cricketer
yea in your dreams MAYBE
He was ahead of his times playing all 3 formats.English cricket establishment was jealous of him.
worlD moSt beautiful BatSman my kp AlwaYs legenD❤🐐❤🐐❤🐐❤🐐
After 2005 ashes England celebrated for days, parades on buses etc... Aussies win world cup and 3 reporters showed up at the airport to chat to Pat Cummins for the evening news when they flew home to Australia.
Yea its difficult to get behind a team rife with convicted chaters (pun intended) no matter how talented they are
No One is bigger than the team. Pride and a strong personality were his undoing........ Kevin Petersen undid himself.
Would have easily scored 10,000+ runs and 30+ centuries. He is by far the best English batsmen of his generation. Alistair Cook got knighted but he's average was lower than KP's.
Interesting that Broad who was definitely against KP when they were both playing after retirement on the Simon Jordan podcast seemed to do a 180 and admit that he found Strauss quite snakey and even admitted he didn't enjoy playing under Strauss
Really? What did he say? Got a link to that CZcams? I’m curious
Someone like Sourav Ganguly as a captain might had handled him better. Ganguly was not a greatest player but he was grate in man management, he know how to make ordinary player in to match winner's, love KP😊
Scoring 11000 ODI runs and 7000 Test Runs isn't one of the greatest for you ???
After Sachin, He was the best Batsman
Not a great player? Lol😂
Funny you say the same. I had the same thought as I watched an interview on Linkedin where Sourav taked about man management amd handling different personalities. He said that he found Yuvi in one of night clubs before an important game. Instead of making a huge deal, he trusting his instinct and suppressed the news getting leaked to media. Yuvi that day scored a match saving innings.
run stats can be overrated when you play 2/3rds your career in the sub continent against an average sri lanka and pour bangladesh alot. @@saikatghosh9073
@@saikatghosh9073 100+ wickets too
My favorite English player of all time. The great KP
Piers Morgan clearly understands fuck all about cricket if he is comparing an opener's average with that of a number 4/5. Great documentary.
He is one of the modern day great alongside Kohli, De Villiers, Smith, Gayle etc.
He's was far better than all those combined.
@@jaihind2405😂 no he wasn’t. Maybe better than Gayle in terms of batting skill.
@@pareshmathew1596 - devilliers failed miserably in front of Warne and McGrath Kohli never faced those type of legends and Kevin Pietersen played them like a true legend in his first test series. You don't know anything about cricket.
@@jaihind2405since prime De Villiers never faced McGrath, Warne etc, you can't say that, prime ABD faced all the best fast bowlers and spinners of this generation and they all agree on one thing "he is the best we have bowled to."
@@-RajarshiKashyapSarmah - 😂 devilliers saved his prime and unleashed himself when the legends like Warne and McGrath retired he was clueless against them😂
Great player England didn't know how to manage him
KP THE LEGEND. THAT ASHES HE NEEDED A CENTURY WHEN JOHNSON RAN EVERYBODY AMUCK. KP WAS THE ONLY GUY WHO WAS CAPABLE THOUGH HE TRIED IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT. THOUGH HE MISSED ENGLAND AFTER PLAYING MORE THAN 100, HE SAVED HIMSELF TO PLAY FEW SOLID YEARS OF FRANCHISE CRICKET ESPECIALLY IPL WHERE HE WAS PAID HANDSOMELY. HE ALSO PLAYED BIG BASH. KP IN MOOD WAS LIKE MODERN VIV.
my CriCkt hero only kp i miSs him so muCh❤😢
The great KP always magic to watch - who else can you say that about? Bazball started here. Shame about the ultimate creep Morgan connection.
Certain people just rile people up and invite bullying whether they're decent people or not.
Everyone holds grudges against people they don't like justifiably or not and act on that antipathy if they're in a position of power. They're lying to themselves if they think otherwise.
I think KP was treated unfairly.
He was never an issue under Michael Vaughan, Duncan Fletcher team loved him
@@paulz4667 Vaughan and Fletcher loved him. I reckon those two formed a great partnership as captain and couch, and knew how to manage those unique personalities like KP and Flintoff. I get the sense that they were happy to tolerate not so perfect people if they were real winners
The greatest English batsman and one of the greatest of all time
A Great South African
Prick doesn't even know who Harry Gwala is. It seems he grew up in the same bubble of ignorance as most white south africans, how dissapointing 🤨
Everyone bats like KP now
But this was 20 years ago
lovely story - same with all flawed true genius. there was a match seemingly heading to a draw in india that kp turned around by scoring quickly to turn the tables on the clueless indians for the bowlers to bowl us out!! but he neednt have to hate people like james taylor so much. that guy was chosen for a reason and people like kp and viv should step back and help out if they wish if they're not in charge.
Best mind and the greatest batsman of his generation by far (nit including batsman like kallis and tendulkar cayse they pkayed a hell lot before him he is more abd d's generation
kp would have done better in morgans captaincy,,he was the first eng player,,he said about the benefits of playing in the ipl
Great documentary aside from the incessant background music.
this content is GOLD
Kevin had that charisma
Now they are commentating in India
Stokes has the habit of dropping his bat when he gets bowled in a way that it feels like he is saying to the bowler Dude you said you won’t bowl the Yorker but you did !! 😂… I remember couple of times him dropping his bat when he was bowled by Starc Yorker.. implying that this was not we hd agreed too 🤣🤣
What was the name of the background music?
Can someone please name the background music at the start of the video.
I'm not sure about the original song but search for wretch 32 and avelino
The only intimidating english batsman ever
He left sa to be the best because South Africa was in their best group of players at that time and he would have been overshadowed but at the end it bite him big time
K.P Story of JELOUS
Back ground music is so cool what is this name
The goat
227-The best.
As an England fan, I think his 186 in Mumbai was even better. In the 2012 test series. We're still the last away team to win a test series in India.
dude burned some bridges here
Kp🎉🎉
Gosh isn’t Swann an Absolute Goose. Tim Tim not nice but Dim, toffee pop. Nearly average at best, wouldn't write home though.
How good are SA at producing cricket talent for the rest of the world . Cheers for that.
Can anyone say whats the background music is?
I am also waiting for the name of the background music….
I'm not sure of the original song but search for wretch 32 and avelino fire in the booth
Thanks
Got it.. The name of the song is XX intro
Genius talent, but I still feel he could have become an even better player if he had a different head. The biggest enemy of Kevin Pietersen was not a bowler or other person, but Kevin Pietersen himself.
ecb did'nt treat him well,,he was the best player of spin in england,,,and eng paid the price,,when they got albsolutely humiliated in 2015 wc and 2014 t2o wc
where am i
As a commentator he is totally biased , now one can assume why he was kicked out of the team. Broadcaster please see that in future he should not be in the commentry team against India
He was in the business of making runs, not making friends, + he handled his business like no one else in an England shirt ever has.
Botham wouldn't have won any popularity contests, either, it's really not important, although his mum might not agree with that..............
Struss stop lying it was ur personal vendetta to get rid of kevin
Strauss, the English man angel?? BS. He did say that nobody should communicate with the opposition. Kevin wouldn't lie.
Swann is and was an a grade flog, got a free ride on a good side then when it got hard he quit
Swann he won england more games than all of u hypocrites
England have always had a problem where they pick players that are nice and get along but they don't pick the actual match winners cause they don't get Along or there not team men as an Aussie cricket fan yous just manage to stuff each selection up
I met him in sydney i actually thought he was nice
Genius ???😮
..you must not have ever heard him speak..he’s the opposite of a genius.
You must be very low IQ
Swann.....snake
Kevin is a better human being then Michael Vaughan he may have done some bad things but he has a bad heart
Whereas michael Vaughan is a racist coming from an Aussie
Great bat and hugely talented .But was totally South African .He was utterly tactless....a classic South African trait .Should never played for England let alone captain the team .One of those extremely talented sportsman who was also extremely thick .
At least you will mostly know exactly where you stand with us tactless South Africans.
Not saying there are no backstabbing, two-faced bastards among us, too.
As for being thick, look a bit closer at yourself.
All them things struss talking yet he ended Kevin career
What a poisonous dressing room … Swann Broad and Strauss 🤮
Kevin was great …Swan is a racist…how Kev played is called bazball now
Low IQ you
