Thank you for your honesty and sharing this video James. Looks good and hopefully should give it's owner a few more years of life for the roof as you said. Happy trails!
Love your glasses! Really appreciate your informative videos!! I'm not sure where you're located but I'm in Ontario Canada and doing some overdo maintenance and repairs on our 2013 Cyclone. I'd much rather haul our RV to you for this much needed TLC!!! It amazes me how many design flaws, manufacturer oversights and lack of maintenance lead to RV disasters. 😥 Thank you so much for sharing your vides! 😊
Doc: Your video are ageless and priceless. Though I'm uncertain, if I'm better prepared to tackle the roof or wiser not to. Thank you for the enlightenment.
You did a very good job of caulking the edge of the roof. Back in 1977, I got a job at a prefab home company. All the walls for a house would be built in a couple hours complete with doors, windows, siding, etc. everything needed to be fast and efficient. The caulk guys taught me to cut the tip at 45 degrees like you did, but they pushed instead of pull. Keep a tiny amount ahead of the tube. This will push caulk into the corners, and make it smoother. You might give it a try sometime. Respectfully, Kevin
One of the things that I always do when going onto the roof? No shoes and or boots whatsoever. That is the one thing that wears a roof out more than anything. Whatever is on the bottom of your shoe or boot is now grinding into the roof when walking around. Nice job!
What is the name & location of that repair shop? I've been watching a lot of repair videos and you are the only one that seems very knowledgeable in all kinds of roof and RV repairs. I really enjoy the first class work you perform and all the hard work that you do to set up the camera and edit. Thanks for these videos.
Thank you very much. I am definitely still learning camera work and editing. My shop is RV Experts in Apache Junction, AZ. I was at Cassone's RV in Mesa, AZ doing the roof as the body work they were doing went long and the owner needed to pick up for the weekend and there was not time to move it back to the shop. Thanks again!!!
Henry Tropicool would have been a great option here. I'm curious if you've ever used it? Dicor is basically just a coat of paint. Tropicool is an amazing product in comparison.
I have a TPO roof and found that it actually needs a special Dicor Sealant. I did not remove the sealant Started too but was concerned about tearing the TPO. I power washed, then denatured alcohol the sealant. AND then used Dicor Ultra Primer and then used the Dicor Ultra Sealant. I guess the ultra with primer first is supposed to be a superior sealant. Have you used the Ultra? Thanks, Byron
Love your videos, I've learned a lot. I'm about to do my 26' TT. Can you point me in the direction to the best place to buy the TPO and caulking ??? Thanks...
I just love your videos and how awesome you explain what you are doing. I have a Tiffin Phaeton with a fiberglass roof that has a long bubble. Can I slice the bubble and then use resin to reattach to the decking? The was thinking about using Henry’s Tropicool silicon roof coating. Is this a good plan? Thanks so much…Bruce
Yes, basically. No you must NEVER use any oil/petroleum based products on a rubber/TPO roof membrane like EVER!!!! It will destroy the membrane. I'm not yelling....I just did that once and still feel bad 20 years later.
Thanks for the vid. I bought the same product over a year ago, with plans to coat my roof. Did not get around to it before parts of Houston got hit by a hail storm. The hail was golf ball sized. Before I could get an insurance claim completed, I noticed a few small leaks which I spot patched. Now with the Covid issue, I am about to put the toy hauler in the shop and have the insurance pay for most of the costs ( less deductible ). Have you had any customer / personal recommendations on using Camping World or Lazy Days to complete a re-roof repair ? JwgK in Houston, TX
Is there any reason u did lap sealants after you coated roof ? I see a lot of folks do sealant then wait two weeks and do the roof coat ? Any reason to do one vs other
Coating a roof light this in the direct sunlight is concerning. I always coat my roofs at 5am or 7pm when the sun is not present. This way I can see where I have been, and I don't get over-exposed and over-heated by the sun.
My brother had a 5th wheel with a rubber roof that would billow up while going down the hiway, he took it back to the dealer and they said it was normal and wouldn’t hurt anything
carefully scraping has been my best method. Sometimes though once you get an edge started you can pull up and out to take the whole section out. Thanks!
A powered oscillating tool with a plastic scraper tip. Any caulking or sealant comes off like nothing. Just be careful and you wont damage the membrane of the roof.
Well. Since getting the roof peeled off and replaced can run $2-4,000??? Yeah dude, re coating the roof is the ONLY option. It's not always about what we want....

Does that mean its going to colaps under heavy snow? Ive been loving your videos. Lots of work!! Have a great day.
a membrane roof has an 11 year warranty. 20 years is at the outter limits of its seriveable life. If the roof is squishy at the sag then it has water damage. I would plan on it needing a new roof. Thanks!
@@AZExpert I looked at the video I made and the area in question is right by the AC I think we know the culprit. I'm not prepared for the work myself or the cost so I think I will not buy. Great education. Thanks.
I have not. I cannot think of many pros other than cost. If a roof is aged enough to need replacement than the components are also at the end of their lives and likely there are damaged sections to the roof deck...so roof replacement is the best option the inspect and repair and replace all bad components. But that's just my opinion
My rubber roof is in very good condition. But the white is flaking off the black rubber. The wood underneath is solid and I have no leaks. Is there any reason I cant use a white elastomeric coating? I dont mind recoating every few years until my rubber roof goes bad.
@JM-nh8yp I can't get a straight answer on which coating to use. Henry's tropicool seems great but the rv pros don't give a straightforward answer as why not to use it . Preventing aging is key in my opinion What did you end up doing with your roof I have a epmd roof
Why seal it with henry tropi cool if does not protect from the weather or seal anything? I bought this stuff to seal and protect from the weather as I thought this was what it was for :(
The Henry's product is a different product but the same idea. It will add some weatherproofing as it is a laryer of paint, but I would recommend fixing the cause of the leaks first if there are any. Thanks!
Coated roofs sell incredibly easily. I can't tell you how many customers proudly told me the seller put a new roof on before they bought it when all that was done was a coating. It also does show some roof maintenance was performed. Thanks
What are your thoughts on the professionally sprayed "lifetime" roofs? Almost seems like a line-x coating that is very thick. Not cheap either, for my 32' travel trailer at the time i was quoted $7-8000.
What is your thoughts on the difference between the Dicor product and Heng's? Is the Dicor product worth the extra $$? I want to recoat the roof on my 99 DIscovery 37V, and want it done well and correctly, but never have been one to care about paying more for a name brand, if another product works just as well and is less expensive.
Heng's is a large name in the RV industry so it's not necessarily an off brand. It should work just as well, my only caveat is that these coatings do not seal roofs, they are more like sunblock for the membrane. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! The roof is in fantastic shape, no black spots, no soft places, sealant is fine everywhere. I just want to stay ahead of everything and take good care of it, and I was thinking that a good cleaning and proper maintenance and a good fresh coating would just extend the life of it.

Frog tape is great for interior painting to avoid paint bleed. Try Gorilla duck tape next time
